Guest danielisthor Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Even though i am a registered Republican, i joined the DNC's email newsletter. It's nice to read the enemies propaganda. _________________________________________________________ Special Interest Outrage: Lobbyists Lining Up at White House Door for 2003 Agenda! With the midterm elections just two weeks away, the Bush administration and Republicans in Congress are working closely with big money special interest lobbyists to set their agenda for 2003. What's on the menu? More big tax cuts for corporations and the wealthiest Americans A fake Medicare prescription drug plan that doesn't help America's seniors Another attempt to cram Social Security privatization down the throats of Americans Laws to limit malpractice suits so insurance companies don't pay for medical mistakes If the Republicans gain control of Congress in 2002, working families will pay the price while the wealthiest Americans and special interests reap the benefits. Click here to read more about the 2003 Bush/special interest agenda -- and to pass this story on to your friends. (i copy and pasted for your enjoyment - no thanks needed) Republicans Lay Out Special Interest Agenda for 2003 Quietly plotting together before the election, Bush administration officials are working closely with special interest lobbyists to lay out an agenda for 2003 that includes big gifts for big corporations and the wealthiest Americans. Hoping to win majorities in the Senate and House of Representatives, the GOP has laid out an agenda that includes giveaways to a multitude of special interests: Giveaways to corporations and the wealthiest Americans. After turning enormous federal budget surpluses into enormous budget deficits with tax cuts that go overwhelmingly to the wealthiest Americans, Bush and the Republicans are planning to divert more federal funds to the richest among us with new big tax breaks. By speeding up the pace of tax breaks currently expected to take effect a few years from now, Bush and the Republicans will bring even bigger deficits to the federal government. Corporate lobbyists are also working with Republicans to lower taxes on corporations, while the GOP ignores companies that relocate in tax havens like Bermuda to avoid paying their fair share of taxes. Giveaways to Wall Street executives. Social Security privatization, which would divert trillions from the Social Security trust fund to be gambled in the stock market, is still a top priority of Bush and the Republican party. Republicans plan to use next year to promote Social Security privatization, convincing Americans to risk their guaranteed benefits on a stock market gamble. Giveaways to the drug companies. If they control the White House and both houses of Congress, Republicans plan to pass a weak Medicare prescription drug benefit that will do little to help America's seniors pay for the medicines they need -- a policy written by and for the pharmaceutical special interests. This would let them remove this issue from the national agenda for 2004 without accomplishing anything, a top priority of the big pharmaceutical companies. Giveaways to the insurance companies. Bush and the Republicans plan to introduce legislation that will limit judgments in medical malpractice suits. While doing nothing to stop frivolous lawsuits, this legislation would be an enormous boon to big insurance companies that abuse the legal system with their bottomless bank accounts, allowing them to drag out litigation until it bankrupts ordinary Americans. Democrats Lay Out Economic Vision While Bush and the Republicans are promoting an agenda written by and for special interests, Democrats are working on ways to help working families through tough economic times. House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt (D-MO) recently released a five-point plan to put our slumping economy back on track. The plan included: A short-term stimulus plan of infrastructure building and targeted tax cuts for working families. Long-term fiscal responsibility. Corporate responsibility measures to ensure that CEO "golden parachutes" be treated in the same manner as employee pensions. Pension reform to protect the future of working families. Help to those hit hardest by the economic downturn in the form of a minimum wage increase and unemployment benefit extension.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Did a quick word search... weatlthiest = 5 richest = 1 corporation = 4 big = 8 special interest = 9 (winner) working families = 4 Damn, guys ever hear of a thesaurus?...
Guest danielisthor Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Things that i find interesting in the whole thing 1.) they give complete paragraphs as to what the GOP is "trying" to do and give quick 1 line agenda's on what their plan is. nothing to elaborate their position, tell us what they are "plotting" and how they are going to go about doing it. Why? because they don't have a freaking clue and they don't want to say that if they get their way, they are going to raise our taxes to cover it. 2.)No mention that their lobbyist for the unions are lining up donating millions of dollars and putting homeland security at risk, so they can have control over government employees, hired to protect american citizens, so they can go on strike and hold the nation hostage for an extra 2 days of sick pay and 10% raise every 4 years. 3.)"Help to those hit hardest by the economic downturn in the form of a minimum wage increase." Economics 101 teaches that whenever minimum wage is increased, prices for goods go up. Why, because companies have to make up the difference and the consumers are the ones who pay. who cares that your big mac value meal is now going to cost $5.99, just as long as some 16 year old kid making it will be able to go out and buy that new cd or ps2 game. 4.)"Long-term fiscal responsibility." hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. coming from the Democratic Party? this is a joke right? hahahahahahahhahahaha. Because in the 40+ years that they ran congress before 1996, they had a budget surplus how many times. wait, oh, thats right, never. not once.
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Even though i am a registered Republican, i joined the DNC's email newsletter. It's nice to read the enemies propaganda. Talk about towing the party line =b I mean, hell, everybody here knows I'm a left-leaning type, and I'm voting either Libertarian or Republican for 70% of my voting and voting NO on everything. That newsletter sounded like garbage (and really), and the Dems seriously need to get themselves ready for 2004. It's obvious that none of the elected Democrats have the political cajones to stand up to current "leadership" (and I use that word loosely) while the majority of the nation is in a right-wing state of mind. There's nothing on that newsletter that seriously interests me except a minimum wage increase. Just shut up guys, and over the next two years work up a plan so that G.W. Bush is a one-time fluke. Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2002 let me paste out the Jack Oliver e-mail that I get. "October 18, 2002 Senate Democrats Choose the Special Interests Over Your Interests Just yesterday, the Democrat Senate left town without creating a Department of Homeland Security. Rather than working for an effective Homeland Security Department to better defend our nation, the Democrat Senate sided with government employee unions who want to prevent the President from having the authority necessary to quickly move employees and resources in times of emergency. We shouldn't be surprised. Their decision is part of a pattern of repeatedly putting special interests over the best interests of the American people. They ignored rising energy prices for our families, siding instead with extreme environmentalists to block energy production legislation. Rather than protect retirement security for workers, they ignored pension reforms. Rather than passing a responsible budget to protect jobs and improve the economy, they refused to pass a budget for the first time since 1974. Rather than confirm President Bush's highly qualified judicial nominees, they blocked judge after judge and refused to offer many fair hearings. This record of choosing special interests over the American people's interests needs to change. You can change it by electing men and women who will work for what's best for your family, not what's best for the Washington special interests. Lacking Leadership or an Agenda, Democrats are Losing the Economic Debate This week Democrats unveiled their response to our nation's economic challenges: false attacks and empty rhetoric. With signs of a slowing economy beginning in the summer of 2000, the Democrats are just now paying attention. In contrast, President Bush and Republicans in Congress have cut taxes to grow our economy and have worked to create jobs. As a result of this strong leadership most Americans trust President Bush and Republicans more to handle economic issues. Heading into November, Republicans welcome a discussion on how to strengthen our economy and as a recent memo by RNC Senior Adviser Matthew Dowd points out, Republicans are in a great position to win the debate on the economy in this election. Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted October 22, 2002 I got a VOTE REPUBLICAN Newsletter today disguised as an absentee ballot application which needed to be mailed in and recieved by last week if I did want to vote with an absentee ballot... Im a registered Independent which basically means the Republicans are probably going to hound me for the next 2 weeks. Maryland is mostly Democrat, but there is a super close Election for Governor and there hasn't been a Republican governor in Maryland in 30 years..
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Well according to a story Rush Limbaugh had today (either the Boston Globe or Wall Street Journal) people aren't blaming Republicans for the stock market which is bad news for the Dems. The Dems have absolutely no shame. Scaring old people and people personally effected by Enron and other companies.
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Im a registered Independent which basically means the Republicans are probably going to hound me for the next 2 weeks. Ouch. We're having another Bush/Gore "I hate both guys and have to vote for one" situation in Cali with our governor. It's expected to be the lowest turnout in a long long time and both candidates are desperately shilling for votes, going for political low blows and whatnot. At the same time, they put a measure on the ballot to allow people to register on voting day. Sorry, but San Francisco has enough trouble reading ballots as it is (last time we had counts delayed by everything, even anthrax scares) without the parties bumming cigs to the homeless to get them to register in the 11th hour. Guest TJH Report post Posted October 25, 2002 Call me ignorant, but I live in a far-away land, and I'm wondering what GOP stands for? (I knows it's the Republican party though).
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted October 25, 2002 GOP = Grand Old Party It's a shortened way to say Republican Party so all those media people don't hurt their fingers while saying how the GOP wants to starve children and throw old people in the gutter... Of course, instead of saying "Democratic Party," all you got to do is put a picture of this up...
