Guest Downhome Report post Posted October 23, 2002 I don't want to review it just yet, but I just want to say that this game is perfect. It catches the feel of the old-school Contra games, with an updated look and whatnot. The animations for the enemy deaths are awesome, the background are awesome, and it's just great. Get this... ...and old school game, a side scroller, that works PERFECTLY on a next-gen system. Hey all you other developers, get it, SIDE SCROLLERS ARE NOT DEAD! I hope and pray they release more Contra titles like this, because if they do, well, I'll be one happy video game junkie.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted October 23, 2002 did the old trick work? you know the 99 men trick that works on all Konami games?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted October 23, 2002 I hear this game is real hard. Some people would think that's a good thing...but not me. HArd games make me want to break them. I'll be renting it though.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted October 23, 2002 I hear this game is real hard. Some people would think that's a good thing...but not me. HArd games make me want to break them. I'll be renting it though. On easy, it's (well), easy. Push it up to normal, and THEN we're talking. It's hard, yes, but hey, that's what Contra is, hard. Bullets coming at you from all dirrections, trying to move around while not falling into a whole while shooting wildly, etc... If you love the old Contra games, I personally guarentee you will love this one, just as much, and possibly even more so.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted October 23, 2002 Now you've got me excited. It won't come out to rent for a while.. Good lord...when did LeAnn Rimes get so friggin hot? ... Where was I? Yeah...Contra.
Guest Big McLargeHuge Report post Posted October 23, 2002 I fucking love Contra. Wait a minute, wasn't this game split into two types of game play? One was an overhead view and other levels would side-scroll?
Guest Downhome Report post Posted October 23, 2002 Now you've got me excited. It won't come out to rent for a while.. Good lord...when did LeAnn Rimes get so friggin hot? ... Where was I? Yeah...Contra. Holy sh*t, why did you just mention LeAnn Rimes? I ask, because she is basicly, in my eyes, the hottest woman ever and I've been hooked on her since her debut. Anyhow... ...the music kicks ass in the game also, it is basicly just a slightly different version of the original theme, it's just great. I love the weapon setup also. You have only three weapons for the entire game, and no, you can't shoot down powerups anymore. However... ...each of the three weapons have a super shot, where it does something different. One of the super shots is a ball released onto the screen, then fires bullets in all dirrections, the other is heat seaking missles, and the other is just a mega-burts from the flame thrower. It works perfectly, and really fits the game.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted October 23, 2002 I fucking love Contra. Wait a minute, wasn't this game split into two types of game play? One was an overhead view and other levels would side-scroll? Yes, in the old games it sometimes did have levals of the same type. I don't know if this one has anything overhead or not, I have yet to really advance in it. Another great thing about this Contra games, and all of the others... ...two player action, at the same time!
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted October 26, 2002 Does it compare to Contra 3: The Alien Wars at all in terms of quality? That Contra is, IMO, the best of the bunch.
Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted October 27, 2002 I'm glad to see all these retro games from the 80's getting revamped on the PS2. I loved Maximo, Contra looks great and we still have Rygar and Shinobi on the horizon.
