It's a subtitled french "romantic comedy" so i know that there's only a handful of posters around this board that would even give this movie a chance. However i loved it and found it to be a great and wonderfully fun movie.

It had amazing cinematography, great performances and an entertaining story. It was also great how everything in the movie was connected to each other in interesting and sometimes surprising ways.

If Holywood could make "romantic comedies" as good as this one, then "romantic comedies" may not get such a bad name from those outside of the targeted audience.

Other than developing a mad crush on Audrey Tautou, I didn't get much out of Amelie. I thought the film maddening in its preciousness.

I've been meaning to give it another chance, however. I saw the film once--December of last year--and liked it in spots, just not enough.

This is actually a fairly popular movie on this board since I always seem to see people mention it and mdh257's avatar is from the "she likes to break creme brulee with a spoon" scene. I loved Amelie (I decided to watch some parts of it today, and I have "La Valse d'Amelie" stuck in my head right now), but yeah, it's a little too self-conscious of its own charm. It's almost overbearingly adorable.

I love what he did with the color palette.

Yeah i know that there's some people on this board that like the movie. I still believe it's a fairly small number of the board, but can't be certian. I suppose we shall find out with this thread.

Does the lead chick get naked? I saw it was rated R for sexual content and she's pretty hot.

Okay all joking aside I'll have to rent this one.

No there's no actual sex or nudity in the movie. The sexual content is mainly noises and the porn shop.

I thought it was a great movie (I nominated it in the favorite movie thread but it wasn't chosen). If you haven't seen it don't see it with a bunch of guys.

Characters are well developed, effective visual effects, little things done well. A very satisfying movie experience.

I loved the movie, obviously. I think it's a real love it or hate it movie. It was my 2nd favorite movie of last year (after "Ghost World"). I can't believe it got 5 Oscar nods and lost them all, even Best Foriegn Film. I guess the Acadamy thought a film about the Bosnain War was more important than a "cute little French movie". LOTR:FOTR was a good movie but how can anyone look at these two movies and say LOTR was the one that deserved Best cinematography.

I thought Jeaunet(?) should have been nominated for Best Director (and won) and Audrey Tautou should have gotten Best Actress. How can a guy see the movie and not fall in love with her.

It even got snubbed at the French Ceasar Awards (their version of the Oscars). It was nominated for more Ceasars than any film in their history, then lost every one of them except Best Picture.

I'm a very cynical person (My fav. movie is Pulp Fiction), but I just completely fell for this movie.

I can understand the "overbearingly adorable" comment, but the movie was so charming I didn't care.

Amelie is something special and if you're open to it you should really give it a try.

I loved Amélie. It was one of my four favorites from last year, along with Mulholland Drive, The Royal Tenenbaums and No Man's Land (so I wasn't that upset that it lost best foreign language film).

Amelie was one of those rare works of art (The Tempest is another one) which just left me feeling so incredibly joyous. The movie was so bizarrely contrived, yet it felt much more believable than your standard Meg Ryan/Sandra Bullock chick flick. And Tautou is one of the cutest damn people I've ever seen in my life.
