The Boston Expos

Did anyone hear the news that the Expos may be moving to Boston for a year. There is preliminary talks about the Expos playing all their home games at Fenway Park next season.

I think this is great just for the fact I may be able to see some national league baseball. I'd love to get a chance to see Barry play. Anyone else's opinion.

How could the Red Sox and the Expos both play at the same stadium?

If they're just playing for a year it could turn out to be a situation like when the Titans moved to Memphis

While I hate this idea, and hope that the Expos NEVER leave Montreal, wouldn't it be funny if they did move to Boston, and won the World Series?

No. That would not be the least bit funny.

If the Expos moved here that would mean at least 162 games would be played in a 91 year old stadium with no parking. I'm sure the neighborhood would just love that idea to death.

Fenway and the area wouldn't be able to hold up to that many games and that much traffic for an entire spring and summer. Plus who would want to go see the Expos on a regular basis in Boston? Unless the the tickets are the same prices as Montreal's current ones then I don't see anyone paying $250+ to sit behind home plate for the Expos.

Are the Expos gonna be a traveling show? They should have "Tours"...College stadiums for a week...High School for another...

Seriously...go ahead and open the Portland/D.C/Indy/Vegas sweepstakes for 04...

Red Sox, Expos would share Fenway for season

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ESPN.com news services

NEW YORK -- Is Boston about to be a two-team baseball town again?

Preliminary discussions which have involved some people at the "highest levels of baseball" are considering having the Montreal Expos share Fenway Park with the Boston Red Sox next season, according to a report in Thursday's New York Daily News.

According to the newspaper, the Expos would play in Fenway for one year while Major League Baseball continues to search for a buyer, who could possibly move the team.

The motivations are two-fold: the Expos would be out of Montreal, where they had baseball's lowest attendance and are considered a lame duck franchise, and the Red Sox management would receive rent from the team, added revenue to a team which sold for $700 million a year ago.

"This could be a win-win-win for all the parties involved except the 200 season ticket-holders in Montreal," a source told the Daily News. "The Red Sox get the benefit of the extra revenue, the Expos get a great place to play where people will come out to see them and Boston fans get to see National League baseball again."

The Boston Braves were a member of the National League until 1953, when they moved to Milwaukee (and later to Atlanta).

Scheduling would be a small problem, sources told the Daily News. There are only a few dates when the two teams are scheduled at home at the same time.

Another team for Boston to unleash its venom upon, me thinks.

I was listening to the radio and a higher up in the Red Sox organization said they weren't intrested take that for what it's worth.

Would people in Boston, which already has a longstanding franchise to which the area is devoted, really attend Expos games in any sort of numbers? I have a hard time believing their attendance would improve that much over the dreadful Montreal attendance. Especially since everyone would know that they're only playing at Fenway temporarily.

This sounds like a really bad idea. The fans in Boston are Red Sox fanatics...I really doubt many would go see the Expos regularly. I dont' think the draw of "National League Baseball" is enough to put them in seats for that many games in a season.

If they are set on moving the Expos out of Montreal (which is a given at this point), they should try moving them somewhere exotic for a season, like Puerto Rico, or a baseball starved US city like Portland.

They found a place for the Expos in 2003. It's called Montreal. Didn't they hold off moving them for one more year?

What about Puerto Rico...

Oh, and its only a bad idea to the Red Sox fans because the Expos will probably be a better team than the Red Sox next year and it would be humiliating if the Expos won the World Series...

The sox will be better then the Expos, myself as a diehard sox fan would attend Expos games alll the time if the tickets were cheaper. It is never going to happen but I would to see national league baseball. In my opinion it isn't going to happen though.
