Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 24, 2002 Since there's a couple of these up, I figured I'd make one with a bunch of bands I'm really into. I'll use stuff from genres other than metal, since a lot of people might not be familiar with several of those bands. (although I'll use a couple death bands in there, just because) Pink Floyd- Type O Negative- Rush- Dead Kennedys- The Doors- The Who- Acid Bath- Clutch- Cream- Pantera- Nasum- Nile- Dillinger Escape Plan- Cryptopsy- Alice in Chains- Black Sabbath- Tool- I'll add my opinions later. Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted October 24, 2002 My opinions on these bands range from "somewhat indifferent" to "an almost visceral loathing," except fo the Who. The Who rules.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted October 24, 2002 Pink Floyd- Amazing. 'Nuff said. Type O Negative- So incredibly great it's funny (cool how it's a joke band). Rush- Geddy's voice annoys me to no end. Not a fan, but I can respect them. Dead Kennedys- Mmmmm... The Doors- Utterly dull. The Who- Legends for a reason. Acid Bath- Pretty tasty to listen to. Clutch- Fun stoner rock. Cream- Not too much of a fan, but I definitely can dig it. Pantera- Decent band, even if they used to be glam rock. Nasum- Meh. Nile- Progressively better with each album, but still nothing to call home about. Dillinger Escape Plan- Absolutely awful. Cryptopsy- Horrid. Alice in Chains- Of all the "grunge" bands, AiC was probably the best. Black Sabbath- The starters of it all. \m/ \m/ Tool- Extremely boring, save for a select few songs. I still don't get why everybody seems to love these guys when they've essentially recorded the same album three times in a row...
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted October 24, 2002 Pink Floyd - Don't really have an opinion about them, as I haven't heard too much. Didn't like what I've heard though, chalk that up to listening to too much metal. Type O Negative - Fucking great. Black No. 1 is one of my top 20 songs of all time. Rush - Eh. I like Tom Sawyer a real lot though. Dead Kennedys - I love em. Jello's awesome. The Doors - Boring. Light my Fire suck balls. its the same fucking keyboard notes OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER! GAHHHH! The Who - Great. Acid Bath - Can't really put them in a genre, and that's why they're so good. Clutch - Ok. Cream - Never was a fan. Pantera - Love em. Vulgar Display of Power is one of my favorite albums, ever. And by proxy I like Down & Superjoint. Nasum - Never heard of them. Nile - Eh, what I've heard I sort of enjoyed but found repetitive. Dillinger Escape Plan - I dislike them. Cryptopsy - Never heard them. Alice in Chains - Good stuff. Black Sabbath - The fucking kings. Tool - Horribly overrated, boring bullshit music. I liked A Perfect Circle more.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted October 25, 2002 Pink Floyd- Acid Rock rules, and so do they. Animals is one of the best albums ever. David Gilmour, master of the whammy bar. Type O Negative- Eh okay, but can do some pretty good covers. Rush- Gods. Canada's best band. Dead Kennedys- Decent, not much of a fan of them as much. The Doors- Great band, but Light My Fire is too boring. The Who- What rock and roll should be, diverse yet still loud and kick ass music. If it wasn't for John Entwistle, the bass would have been dead. Acid Bath- Couldn't care less Clutch- see above Cream- very very good. Pantera- Dimebag ownz, though last two albums blew chunks. Nasum- Reminds me too much of Anal Cunt Nile- Okay but nothing spectacular. Dillinger Escape Plan- Only one good song, other than that couldn't care much for. Cryptopsy- Canada's death/black metal band. Alice in Chains- Grunge? Fuck no, they were metal labeled as a grunge band. Best bands to come out of the early 90's. Black Sabbath- The band that started it all. Tool- Spectacular band to see live, and with a bold statement, This generations Pink Floyd
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 25, 2002 Tool- Extremely boring, save for a select few songs. I still don't get why everybody seems to love these guys when they've essentially recorded the same album three times in a row... ARE YOU FUCKING NUTS? Tool's albums are completely different from one another. Opiate's a fast angry introduction to the band that got people's attention, with some almost political statements, and the title track is a criticism of organized religion. Undertow was more dark and subdued, Aenima got them going on the tripped out progressive style that they basically perfected on Lateralus. The only band I can think of that made their albums sound more different from one another would be Pink Floyd. On another note, FEEL THE GRINDCORE HATE~! heh. Makes me proud to be playing the stuff. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 25, 2002 Figure I'll throw my 2 cents in. Pink Floyd-IMO, one of the most underrated bands of all time. Absurdly creative, people that have only heard The Wall, Dark Side.., and the like don't know what they're missing. Type O Negative-A band I've been into for a while, who writes interesting music without taking themselves too seriously. Rush-More of an influence than a favorite. Neal Peart's one of the best drummers ever, Geddy owns on Bass, and Alex Lifeson is the great forgotten guitarist. Dead Kennedys-My favorite punk band, easily. Jello's spoken word stuff is great, too. The Doors-I love 'em for the lyrics. Robbie Krieger is an excellent guitarist as well. The Who-Fast and Heavy before there was fast and heavy. Acid Bath-They don't really fit into a genre, which leads to bands from several different ones blatantly ripping them off. BRILLIANT lyrics as well. Clutch-Fun stoner rock. Cream-Another one of those influences more than favorites. Pantera-A band I used to absolutely love, but have been into less and less lately. Dimebag rips it up on guitar, and they're great live, but as said earlier, the last couple albums were WRETCHED. Nasum-Fuckin' grind, I love it. Faster than hell, no need for a song longer than 2 minutes. Nile-No one should be allowed to be this sick and this evil at the same time. Dillinger Escape Plan-Technical and fast. No need for melodic pussiness. Cryptopsy-Kings of grind. Alice in Chains-My favorite band to come out of the grunge era. Black Sabbath-Invented metal, my favorite band ever. The s/t release still holds up today. Tool-Totally agreed on the opinion that they're the second coming of Pink Floyd. Creative as hell, and absolutely mind-blowing live. Guest Dace59 Report post Posted October 25, 2002 Pink Floyd- Brillant, my not be a fan cuz I've never made the effort to listen to that much of them, but I have to admit how good they are. Type O Negative- Havent heard. Rush- Heard very little but I love them Dead Kennedys- Havent heard The Doors- Dont remeber hearing The Who- Classic, IIRC someone said they invented Death Metal vox, if they did I really must thank them for it. Acid Bath- Havent heard Clutch- Havent heard Cream- Classic, I may not love the classics, but I like leagacy all the same Pantera- One of my Fav Metal bands, I even like their 80's Hair Metal stuff (yes I know they where around before Cowboys in 1990) Nasum- Havent heard Nile- One of my top Death Metal bands Dillinger Escape Plan- Havent heard Cryptopsy- Really, Really love, one of my all time top bands Alice in Chains- Rated as classics, but I never liked their style Black Sabbath- Hugely important, but a tad to ploding and stoner for me at times Tool- Hugely overrate, but deserving most of it. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 25, 2002 Dace, go find some Nasum, you'd love them if you really like Cryptopsy. Acid Bath's fuckin' sick as hell, too, but don't go in expecting any growls, or blast and groove stuff. I don't know about Roger Daltrey inventing death growls, but Keith Moon was one of the first people I ever heard run double bass quickly.
Guest dc_tapes Report post Posted October 25, 2002 I'll just do the bands I'm familiar with Pantera: I've heard everything from Power Metal on, and I think Vulgar Display is my favorite. Nasum: I just listened to Human 2.0 for the first time in months, and I had forgotten how much I like them Dillinger Escape Plan: Pretty cool. Alice in Chains: My favorite band. Black Sabbath: Not much to say that hasn't already been said.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted October 25, 2002 Pink Floyd- Absolutely awesome... my personal favorite classic rock band... Type O Negative- never heard em Rush- never heard em can't judge Dead Kennedys- ass. next. The Doors- I feel similar to them as i do with led zepp. they're okay, but i only really like a few of their songs. The Who- boring, next Acid Bath- mmmmmm, they're alright... i still don't like death metal all too much, except for maybe mayhem or inortaeum (can't spell name) Clutch- never heard of em Cream- never heard their music Pantera- fuck them!! i fucking southern white trash metal Nasum- never heard em.. Nile- never heard em.. Dillinger Escape Plan- never heard em.. Cryptopsy-see nasum, nile, and dillinger escape plan... Alice in Chains- WAAAAY FUCKING AWESOME!!! One of my favorite bands, ever. Black Sabbath- Also fuckin awesome. I don't like any of Ozzy's solo stuff (hmm that may explain my extreme dislike of Zakk Wylde and his absolute bitchass pretentious "black label society") Tool- Pretty fuckin awesome, although I also like A Perfect Circle better.... I feel Tool is a bit overrated, and/or overhyped. Interestingly enough, I've found with Tool and Perfect Circle, if you don't like one, you'll probably like the other... Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 25, 2002 Acid Bath isnt' death metal. You should definitely check out Type O. You'd probably hate it, but they're one of those love 'em or hate 'em bands.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted October 25, 2002 ok, i love tool, clutch, sabbath, pantera and DEP. i like the who, and like 'october rust' by type O, i think the doors are overrated and haven't really heard the rest.
Guest converge241 Report post Posted October 25, 2002 Pink Floyd- love them. favorite is WYWH, followed by Animals..I wish i saw them at least once but never did for various reasons..genius most of the time. fav song = dogs or learning to fly Type O Negative- none more negative..i have real problems with most of October Rust and Slow Deep and Hard but they are one of my favorite bands and ive seen them live 11 times. fav songs = we hate everyone, frozen, gravity Rush- got the best of and i respect them , but not "into" them. Subdivisions is tops Dead Kennedys- have 3 cds but havent listened to them in ages.. ill probably go through a personal punk resurgance adn listen to them again someday.. very influential.Buzzbomb is probably my favorite The Doors- git heavily into them when the movie came out. I was a fan before but fell into being a superfan after 91. There are a lot of favs - not to touch the earth, five to one, end of the night. box sets are must owns The Who- the only song i like is Baba Oreilly... they just arent my kind of bag though Acid Bath- dead girl there will never be another that screams like you!!! Clutch- the self titled is the only cd i really like but i see them live whenever i can, usually they are always opening though (slayer, Marilyn Manson) Cream- always been meeting to get some cds..i like all the staples Pantera- kings of metal..only mistep was trendkill and even that has Suicide Note so it makes up for it Nasum- inhale/exhale motherfucker!!!!!! Nile- nile is just tops in so many ways.. worlds ahead of anyone else in the genre (and no not the egyptian genre) Catacombs is slightly better than everything else..but just slightly..Black seeds of vengenace is probably my fav Dillinger Escape Plan- just couldnt get into them at all.. a friend really tried to turn me on to Botch, Coalesce, and DEP..but only Botch and Coalesce stuck Cryptopsy- i remember suffer coming out while on my honeymoon in Canada..we bleed.. did they get their new singer yet? Alice in Chains- all downhill after Facelift..I know people love Dirt but it just pales.. the EPs dont count becasue of the difference . It aint like that, bleed the freak, nutshell Black Sabbath- probably right up there with the doors for me my favorite album is sabotage but my 2nd is Dehumanizer..im a sucker for the Dio period Tool- brilliant stuff..i like aenima the least (even less than Opiate) one of the few bands that top themselves live
