Guest Slapnuts00 Report post Posted October 24, 2002 This is such awesome news! What a relief. I was watching last night when they released these 2 guy's names and was trying to piece together what it all means, if these guys are the snipers, or accomplices or what the deal was. Looks like they've got them! The jail they're conducting the interrogation from is actually right behind my house! (well at least the police station is behind my house, the jail is about a block away though!), we went past the police on the way home from school, and as we were turning we cheered them and chanted "MOOOOOSE" they pumped their fists in the air and smiled in response. Awesome. New respect for these guys, I'm so relieved that it's over, now let's think of the worst way to kill this guy and his rotten stepson...

Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2002 ya know somebody's gonna look like a horse's ass if we have another shooting in the same area. Still, if these are the guys, then finally they have been found. Execute them both.

Guest Slapnuts00 Report post Posted October 24, 2002 oh, don't worry...they've got 'em: From Fox News: Police swooped down and arrested the man and a teenage companion, reported to be his stepson, at a Maryland rest stop Thursday morning. Officials said they were certain the pair were responsible for killing 10 people and wounding three others since Oct. 2. John Allen Muhammad, 41, and John Lee Malvo, 17, were captured at 3:19 a.m., just a few hours after a warrant had been issued for their arrest. They were found sleeping inside a 1990 blue Chevrolet Caprice with New Jersey plates off I-70 in Frederick County, Md. State police said the men offered no resistance. Muhammad was arrested on a federal weapons charge and Malvo was being held as a material witness, law enforcement sources told Fox News. Prosecutors said they planned to meet Friday to discuss future charges. Police found a gun, a scope and a tripod in the car, and a law enforcement source said the gun appeared to have the same caliber as the one used in the Beltway shootings. Police were awaiting ballistics tests on the gun. Subsequent reports indicated that a hole had been drilled in the trunk of the Caprice, possibly to enable a gunman to fire from inside. Sources told several media outlets that the gun found was a Bushmaster .223, some versions of which resemble a military M-16. Pentagon sources told Fox News that Muhammad is an expert marksman, having received M-16 and hand grenade expert badges. He enlisted in November of 1985, served in the Gulf War and last served at Fort Lewis near Tacoma, Wash., before being discharged. Montgomery County state's attorney Douglas Gansler said he believed the sniper was no longer at large. "There's a strong feeling these people are related to the sniper shootings," he said. Another official, who requested not to be identified, said of Muhammad and Malvo: "We're positive it's these guys." Sources told Fox News that the pair were planning another sniper attack when they were captured. Newspaper reports said the men were motivated by anti-American bias; police in Washington state, where the men recently lived, said they were not part of any organized group. The arrests came hours after authorities descended on a home in Tacoma believed to hold clues to the investigation. A nationwide alert was issued for the car, and it later was spotted by a motorist and an attendant at the rest stop. Charles Moose, the Montgomery County police chief leading the investigation, had said Muhammad was being sought for questioning in the slayings and called him "armed and dangerous." Authorities said Muhammad was traveling with Malvo. Reports said Muhammad had converted to Islam many years ago, but only changed his last name from Williams recently. The sequence of events leading to the arrests was put into motion by a telephone call to the sniper tip line about an unsolved liquor-store robbery in "Montgomery," which left one woman dead and another seriously wounded. The caller to the sniper claimed responsibility for both the robbery and the sniper shootings, officials said. Investigators checking the tip matched it with the Sept. 21 robbery in Montgomery, Ala. Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright said Malvo's fingerprint was found at the scene on a magazine about weapons, though he did not specify whether the print was found before or after the telephone call. Police traced Malvo to the Tacoma house that was searched Wednesday in the sniper hunt. Malvo had been living in the home with Muhammad, a source told the AP. A composite sketch of the suspect in the liquor-store shootings was made and "there are some very good similarities" to Malvo, Montgomery Police Chief John Wilson said. He said the gun used in Alabama wasn't the same as the one in the sniper shootings, however. Several federal sources told the The Seattle Times that Muhammad and Malvo may have been motivated by anti-American sentiments in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks. Both were known to speak sympathetically about the terrorists who hijacked jetliners over Washington, New York and Pennsylvania, the sources told the newspaper. But neither man was believed to be associated with the Al Qaeda terrorist network, the sources said. The Times reported that Muhammad was stationed at Fort Lewis outside Tacoma in the 1980s, served in the Gulf War and was later stationed at Fort Ord, Calif. Malvo, who authorities said is a citizen of Jamaica, attended high school in Bellingham, Wash., last year. The witnesses at the rest stop called police at 1 a.m. after they spotted the men sleeping inside the Caprice. Micah Rasmussen, a spokesman for the New Jersey Department of Transportation, said the car was registered to Muhammad at a Camden, N.J., address. Investigators spent hours examining the Caprice before putting it in a white trailer and towing it away. With news of the arrests filling the airwaves, truckers blew their horns as they passed by the rest stop. On Wednesday, FBI agents spent hours at the Tacoma home, eventually carting away a tree stump from the yard and other potential evidence in a U-Haul truck. ATF agent Larry Scott said the stump would be brought to the agency's lab in Rockville, Md. On background, law enforcement sources said they believed it might contain bullets or fragments. A Fort Lewis spokesman did not return a call for comment on whether Muhammad was stationed on the base. FBI agents visited Bellingham High School, 90 miles north of Seattle, on Wednesday, reportedly seeking information about Muhammad and Malvo. Mayor Mark Asmundson said both left the area about nine months ago. Bellingham Police Chief Randy Carroll said his force had known about Malvo since December 2001, when a police officer at the high school filed a suspicious persons report because the youth arrived at the school without transcripts or other papers. At one point, he lived with Muhammad as father and son at the Lighthouse Mission, a homeless shelter, Carroll said. Pfc. Chris Waters, a Fort Lewis soldier who lives across the street from the Tacoma home, said he called police after hearing gunshots in the neighborhood nearly every day in January. "It sounded like a high-powered rifle such as an M-16," he said. "Never more than three shots at a time. Pow. Pow. Pow." One of Muhammad's ex-wives, Mildred, was questioned by the FBI on Wednesday, said Adele Moses, who identified herself as the woman's sister. She said Mildred was living with her in Clinton, Md., southeast of Washington.
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2002 "Subsequent reports indicated that a hole had been drilled in the trunk of the Caprice, possibly to enable a gunman to fire from inside." WTF? shooting out of a hole in the trunk? what are the odds that we'll see this 'hole' in question?

Guest EricMM Report post Posted October 24, 2002 I just think it's weird that I was a little worked up about walking past an idling white van or a white box truck, but I wouldn't have cared if I passed a blue car... I was watching all this last night, and the chick I was watching it with was all like "hey, that's pretty good evidence, I think that's definitely the guy" Me I was all confused with the double speak, and I thought they were looking for him because he MAY have been connected with the sniper PERHAPS. I wish the news would use more definitive statements! I'm not surprised they didn't catch them in a dragnet, hell he could have driven through one...
Guest Ram Report post Posted October 25, 2002 Yeah, well, this news wasn't that big of a deal around here. More like "they caught the shooter" --- "great." kind of way. No cheering, celebration, wine-popping.
Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted October 25, 2002 I'm gonna look past the fact that it took this many people dead for them to finally catch the bastards and just be happy that the terror is over.
Guest wwF1587 Report post Posted October 25, 2002 I applaud all the police and detectives in this case. I am glad we have them, may they both die a slow painfully horrible death. Its amazing to me though that one of them is only 17. FD UP.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted October 25, 2002 This is an Islamic terrorist. It isn't being mentioned even though reports have this Muhammed feeling sympathatic to the 9/11 hijackers.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted October 25, 2002 This is an Islamic terrorist. No he's not. Williams is a despicable American citizen and former member of the military who converted to Islam. He is reported to be sympathetic to the scum who perpetrated 9/11. To me. an "Islamic terrorist" is someone who hails from the Middle East; Williams is just a repugnant American who should be snuffed out at the first convenient moment. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 25, 2002 Depends on where he's prosecuted. Maryland has the death penalty, if I'm not mistaken...
Guest Cancer Marney Report post Posted October 25, 2002 You are - somewhat. There's been a moratorium on the Maryland death penalty since May, but the Governor has stated that it would not affect this case because the moratorium was instituted in order to investigate prior bias.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 25, 2002 Yeah, but chances are that this will be made a federal case, won't it? Considering the FBI was involved and all.
Guest Cancer Marney Report post Posted October 25, 2002 I don't take these decisions, but going by precedence and by what I'm hearing it'll probably stay at the state level.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted October 25, 2002 Well, one of the victims worked for the FBI right? If he's connected to that, that would bump the case up to federal level, wouldn't it, since McVeigh's most serious charges were killing the federal employees who worked in that building? Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted October 25, 2002 To me. an "Islamic terrorist" is someone who hails from the Middle East; Than what would Muhammed be called if it turns out he committed these shootings because of his religion.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted October 25, 2002 Maryland does have the death penalty, but the last I heard on the local news, a decision has not yet been made to pursue it. Williams will be facing the death penalty in Alabama for the Mobile shooting, which was announced earlier today. I don't see how a decision to seek the death penalty in this case is in any way difficult.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted October 25, 2002 Than what would Muhammed be called if it turns out he committed these shootings because of his religion. Regardless of his religion, I'd still consider him an American terrorist. Like I said, to me, an "Islamic terrorist" has to hail from the Middle East -- in other words, the person has to be an ethnic Moslem, not just a religious Muslim. Maybe it's an artificial distinction when the big picture is considered (evil is evil, after all), but Williams is still an American by birth and service record, so I'll consider him a completely repugnant, despicable, and evil American terrorist. Guest Pop Culture God Report post Posted October 25, 2002 Malvo is only 17, and it's not for sure that he killed anyone, just his dad. CAN he be executed?
Guest EricMM Report post Posted October 25, 2002 That's certainly a question. Did he take any of those shots or was he just an accomplice? IIRC, they might try to try the case in VA, since VA has had like 80 death penalties in the last 20 or so years, and MD has had like 3. But it will remain on state level since apparently murder isn't a federal crime?
Guest Pop Culture God Report post Posted October 25, 2002 They're trying it FOR NOW in Montgomory County Maryland. However, the feds. could come in at anytime.
Guest EricMM Report post Posted October 25, 2002 apparently each state can only try them for the crimes committed in that specific state. so if the feds do it, then they can get them all at once.

Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted October 26, 2002 Public hanging seems the most appropriate.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted October 26, 2002 Maryland most certainly does NOT still have death by hanging. We have the gas chamber and lethal injection here, neither of which were used often enough even before the current moratorium. The way it looks now, the states will charge these two scum, since the feds don't have a murder charge. In Maryland, the state cannot seek the death penalty on someone under 18, so if that Jamaican fuckwad ends up on death row, it'll have to be somewhere else.
