WWF Hulk STILL Rules DVD Review:

SIDE NOTE: If you read this review, please write feedback, because I have been working on this for several hours (and only 4 matches are recycled out of 19, so that's a lot of work). I apreciate anyone who leaves feedback for this. And now onto the tape....

BTW, I only did the Special Features because that's the whole purpose of this DVD!!

- WWWF Madison Square Garden/WWWF Debut: (12/17/79)

"The Incredible" Hulk Hogan (w/ Freddie Blassie) Vs. Ted Dibiase:

Jesus Christ the referee is a midget! Dibiase a clean shaved babyface scares me. He hails from Omaha, Nebraska now. 9 years later and the roles had changed drastically. They lock up and Dibiase is shoved to the buckle. Dibiase applies a full nelson but Hogan breaks it to boos. Dibiase with a wrist lock but is shoved off. I keep typing Dibiase as Backlund for some reason, but I catch that error each time. Dibiase with several arm drags and Hogan runs to the outside. Side headlock by Dibiase and Hogan whips him to the buckle and nails a shoulder-block, then sends Dibiase out to the arena floor HARD. Hogan keeps knocking Dibiase to the floor each time he gets on the apron for a while. Suplex by Hulk and a leg drop only gets 2! You'd hear boos if Dibiase did that in 1988. Hogan slams him and nails an elbow for 2 again. Mcmahon is doing solo commentary. Hogan with a back elbow and a rear chinlock. Dibiase breaks free sending Hogan to the buckle and avoids an elbow drop. Dibiase up and pissed and he unloads on Hogan and nails a drop-kick, and another. He whips him across the ring and nails a shoulderblock!! The 2nd time he posts himself good and Hogan locks on the bearhug putting Dibiase into his misery at 11:15. 1/4* Boring match, and lasted WAY too long.

- Episode of All-star wrestling (1/2/80):

"The Incredible" Hulk Hogan (w/ Freddie Blassie) Vs. Ben Ortiz & Angelo Gomez:

Great, two Puerto Ricans. It's over already. Double wristlock is brushed off easily by the Hulkster as does a double leg takedown by the spicks. Again the double wristlock is thrown off. Hogan pounds on both jobbers for a while. Slams all around by Hogan and more beating on the immigrants. Hogan with a double headlock and noggin knocker. Hogan kicks their ass for a while longer. Hogan accidentally gut wrench powerbombs Ortiz, then finishes him with a backbreaker submission at 4:58. DUD

-Showdown At Shea: (8/9/80)

"The Incredible" Hulk Hogan (w/ Freddie Blassie) Vs. Andre The Giant:

The ring is actually SET in the baseball diamond at Shea stadium! Hogan is wearing the traditional red and yellow here, although it didn't matter until 1987. Staredown by the big men and Andre shoves off Hogan. Hogan with a side headlock but Andre uses his strength to shove Hogan off and a shoulderblock goes to no one. Andre with the headlock now and Hogan does the same. Andre with headbutts to the back of Hogan. Hogan shoves Andre into the corner and unloads, but Andre fights back, and nails a headbutt. Hogan grabs a bearhug stupidly and Andre breaks free. Andre with a Suplex but he misses a headbutt and he eats floor. They trade shots and Andre grabs a hammer lock. This match is just dragging. Andre with a slam but Hogans feet knock the midget referee silly. Hogan attacks from behind and slams the giant (7 years before the "first" one took place) but no count. Andre slams him again and splashes him for a FAST three count even though Hogans shoulders were up at 2 at 7:44. 1/4* Hogan lays out Andre with the loaded forearm of doom (cough: The Narcissist: cough) after the match.

- Bob Backlund Vs. Samoan #3 (w/ Wild Samoans & Lou Albano): (12/83)

Backlund was supposed to have a tag team partner of mystery but Albano refused and here we are. The three Samoans come into the ring and Backlund walks off to the locker room.....and he brings out HULK HOGAN!! Backlund takes a beating by the Samoan until he locks on the crossface chicken wing, and the other Samoans rush the ring causing a DQ at "4:34." Hogan comes in and cleans house on the Samoans and knocks Albano on his ass several times. After the match Hogan OFFICIALLY gives his first babyface promo getting the thumbs up from Bob Backlund. Match was DUD but who cares?

- WWF World Championship Match: (MSG-1/23/84):

Iron Sheik © (w/ Freddie Blassie) Vs. Hulk Hogan:

Hogan jumps Sheik from behind and pounds away. Big Elbow in the corner and Hogan chokes Sheik with his robe, and clotheslines him with it. Big rights in the corner and a vicious clothesline and knee drop by Hogan. Eye rake and hanging chokehold by Hulk! He spat on The Sheik! Big Boot only gets 2 after stalling. The crowd is jacked. Running elbow to the top of the head and an elbow drop gets 2. Hogan misses the corner charge and Sheik hammers the back. Backbreaker gets 2 for the Sheik. More pounding on the back by Sheik and a Boston crab! Powerslam by the champion only gets 2. Camel Clutch is applied!! Hogan powers up with Sheik on his back and drops him down. LEG DROP! 1......2........3!!!!! Hogan is the NEW WWF champion at 5:33. * for historical reasons. Crowd is going nuts!

- Mean Gene interviews The NEW Champion as several WWF superstars (including Rocky Johnson) congratulate him. Afterward Mr. & Mrs. "Hogan" (hulks parents) talk for a while.

- Tuesday Night Titans: (8/21/84):

Hulk Hogan trains Mean Gene for their upcoming match in the twin cities on 8/26/84 against Steele & Fuji.

Day 1: Hogan shows up at 5:00 a.m. and gets mad at Gene for "sucking on a cigar" and drinking coffee. He offers to make breakfast, which consists of drinking down 3 raw eggs, which Gene finds disgusting, so Hogan chugs both glasses. Gene groans each time Hogan drinks them down. Hogan keeps calling Gene daddy. Gene & Hogan run around the lake a few times as some bystanders cheer them on. Hogan keeps screaming eye of the Hulkster at Geno. Gene wants a beer & brot-wurst but Hogan stops him and forces him to work out more.

Day 2: Gene at the gym. Hilarious as he is having trouble doing crunches while Hogan is doing everything with ease. Hogan has a Gene-o-mania shirt on.

Day 3: Hogan barges in on Gene at 6:00 a. m and they run up the stairs of the stadium for the big match. Hulk carries Gene up the steps piggy back and Gene does the same....with trouble. (my favorite wrestlecrap sound clip of Gene groaning in pain as Hogan keeps screaming come on Geno, and eye of the Hulkster). Geno does wheel barrel climbing with his hands up 32 mini-flights of steps.

- (Same TNT episode)

Hogan teaches "Vicious" Vince & "Awful" Alfred about nutrition. Hulkster has his pertinent python powder mix for the nutrition drink. He says use spring water because milk is for babies and a couple of scoops of python powder. He adds some peaches, bananas, and strawberries. He then dunks in eggs (w/ shells) as Awful Alfred looks disgusted. Hogan also has Python Pills which he gives to Vince & Alfred, and they pop them down.....eventually. Vince thinks the stuff tastes good, but Alfred almost pukes. Hilarious.

- Hulk Hogan & "Mean Gene Okerlund Vs. George "The Animal" Steele & Mr. Fuji: (8/26/84)

Gene poses like Hogan as the crowd erupts. There is no commentary for this match sadly. Hogan (of course) starts with Fuji and wins the lockup, and scores a hip toss and body slam. Steele gets tagged and doesn't want to come in right away. Steele with a cheap shot and Hogan is down, as Steele puts the boots to him. Hogan fights back and cleans house. Gene ACCIDENTALLY tags in and has to fight Steele. HAHA. Gene rightly runs away and tags Hogan back in after a little shenanigans. Hogan with a double noggin knocker and Steele and Fuji are down. Hogan & Gene trade bites on Steele and they both pound him. Big Boot by Hogan and Steele tags in Fuji. Gene cheat shops him while Hogan has him in a full nelson and he unloads on him as well. Crowd is just HOT for this one. Steele chokes Hogan in the corner but it doesn't work and its Hulk Up time. Back Suplex to Steele, and a big boot to Fuji by Gene! Hogan slams Gene on top of Fuji and holds him down for the 3 at 6:11. 1/4* Jesse Ventura protests what happens after the match to no avail as Hulk & Gene celebrate to the posing routine.

- Saturday Night's Main Event: (10/5/85)

WWF-World Championship: Flag Match:

Hulk Hogan © Vs. Nikolai Volkoff (w/ Freddie Blassie):

Hogans theme is the one Lex Luger used for when he turned face in 1993, up until Wrestlemania X. Volkoff jumps Hogan from behind and pounds away. Hogan is sent to the buckle several times and gets choked with his own T-shirt. Hogan sends Volkoff to the buckle and unloads, Irish whip to the buckle and clothesline, and Hogan continues pounding away and nails a clothesline, followed by an elbow drop. Hogan with a series of headbutts and Volkoff is on the mat. Big Boot and Volkoff lands on the time keepers table. Volkoff ends Hogan to the ring post and hammers on the back of the champion. Double Axhandle off the 2nd rope connects. Volkoff with a gorilla press backbreaker and stalls afterwards, and finally covers for 2. Hogan reverses a piledriver and both men are down. Hogan hammers away at Volkoff, but eats boot and is sent to the mat. slam by Volkoff gets 2 and Hogan hulks up!!! 3 roundhouse rights and a big leg drop ends this at 5:18. *1/4. Not too bad. Hogan desecrates the USSR flag, but not as bad as HBK did the Canadian flag at Survivor Series 1997.

- Tuesday Night Titans: (10/18/85)

Hogan poses to the small crowd in the stands. Hogan has a weightlifting belt that he has sweated a 1,001 squats all over it and is going to give it away. Hogan ribs on Big John Studd a LOT.

- From Tuesday Night Titans (10/18/85 episode):

Non-Title Match:

Hulk Hogan © Vs. Tiger Chung Lee:

Hogan & Lee lock up and Hogan with a roundhouse to TCL. Lee with some weak kicks to the midsection of Hogan but Hogan comes back with a scoop slam sending Tiger to the floor. Slingshot brings Lee back in and Hogan with a backbreaker. The champion with an arm-ringer. Lee with more kicks and he gets a 2 count several times. Hogan Hulks Up, and he unloads 3 roundhouse rights, the big clothesline and leg drop for the win at 3:02. DUD

WWF-World Championship Match: (10/19/85-From Puerto Rico):

Hulk Hogan © Vs. Big John Studd:

The ring is REALLY fucking small here. It's LITERALLY 8 feet by 6 feet. Hogan shoves Studd into the non-existing turnbuckle corner. Both men go for slams to no avail. Studd with a greco roman knuckle lock and a bearhug and it starts pouring like hell. Hogan fights out and they slip around a bit. Studd with another bearhug and its REALLY Coming down now. Hogan breaks free again and they slip around more as the ring mat starts peeling off!!! Hogan with an atomic drop and Studd to the outside. Studd eats post and walks off, giving Hogan the count-out win at 7:30. -***. UGH!!!

- Saturday Night's Main Event: (11/2/85):

Hulk Hogan & Andre The Giant (w/ Lou Albano) Vs. King Kong Bundy & Big John Studd (w/ Bobby Heenan):

Hogan & Bundy start the match and they get into a shoving match. Hogan with a high knee gets 1. Hogan goes for a slam but it won't go and Bundy hammers away. Hogan with a bionic elbow and rights, followed by a clothesline in the corner. Andre (Called the big bossman hahaha) chokes Bundy with the straps of Bundy's ring tights. Hulkster with a chop to the throat of Bundy and Studd pounds on Hogan, and they double team. Studd with a shoulderblock on Hogan and he pounds away. Hogan with an atomic drop (sloppy) and Andre back in with a series of chops and a choke in the corner. An Elbow knocks out the referee and all hell breaks loose. Hogan and Bundy brawl while Andre & Studd go at it. The faces clean house and the crowd erupts. Andre & Studd are at it again and Hogan with a knee to Studd. Clothesline by Hogan sends Studd down and Andre back in. Big Boot connects and Bundy comes in and ties up Andre in the ropes. Studd & Bundy work over Hogan and set their attentions on Andre. Hogan gains his strength and cleans house as the match is ended in a DQ at 5:39. 1/4* Hogan & Andre celebrate afterwards. Mean Gene comes in for a post match interview.

- WWF Wrestling Classic: (11/7/85):

WWF-World Championship Match:

Hulk Hogan © Vs. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper:

Both men brawl to start and Piper sends Hogan to the floor, and Hogan trips him up and pulls him out to and unloads. Piper over the steel railing and Hogan with a knee lift. They rake each others eyes and Piper with a throat shot. Eye poke by Hotrod but Hogan back in it with a clothesline in the corner and a back suplex. Body slam and the ring is loud as hell. Hogan with a series of elbow drops and punches to the side of the head. Hogan with some cheap shots puts Hogan down to the canvas and kicks away. Hogan ctaches Piper and locks a bearhug. Piper with an eye rake breaks free and pounds away at Hogan and covers for 2 several times. Piper with a sleeper hold and Hogan is going down fast. Hogan up and both men spill over the top rope to the floor. Piper eats steel post and Hogan is in superman mode. They exchange rights and Hogan with a big boot and an atomic drop, then accidentally runs into the referee. Piper with a steel chair and he blasts Hogan with it, Hogan prevents a 2nd shot and back to his feet. Hogan with a chair shot and sleeper hold. Orton runs in and nails Hogan with the cast for the DQ at 7:15. Orndorff comes in for the save and chases off Orton & Piper with another steel chair. * This was basically the finish to EVERY Piper match in the WWF, with him losing by DQ or Count Out.

- WWF The Big Event: (8/28/86):

WWF-World Championship Match:

Hulk Hogan © Vs. "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff (w/ Bobby Heenan):

Back story is Orndorff had turned on Hogan several months prior to this because he felt Hogan was an egomaniac and was hogging the spotlight, and thus, joined the Heenan family (and rejoined team Hulkamania at the Survivor Series in 1987). Orndorff does his Hogan imitation during the champions entrance. Paul jumps Hogan with a clothesline and pounds on him while they are on the mat. Hogan fights back with the same and unloads a furry. They trade rights and Hogan with a hard roundhouse right sends Mr. Wonderful to the outside. Orndorff in again and back out. He pulls Hogan out and kicks at the midsection of Hogan. Hogan blocks getting rammed into the mat and instead rams Orndorff into it. Clothesline by Hulk and a big elbow drop! Headbutt by Hogan and an Irish whip & clothesline in the corner. Orndorff with a low blow and Heenan nails Hulk but Hogan with an atomic drop on Orndorff and he chases Heenan. Orndorff puts the boots to him and drops a series of knees on the back of the neck of Hulk and a clothesline sends Hogan to the floor. Orndorff on the outside with a suplex and again mocks Hogan. A knee to the face keeps Hogan on the floor. Orndorff on the outside and drops elbows across the chest of Hogan. Orndorff with a thrust and running knee to Hogan gets 2. Scoop slam by Orndorff and an elbow drop connects for 2. Orndorff with a thrust into the throat of Hogan off the top rope and goes for a piledriver but its reversed! Orndorff with some illegal choking, so the ref gets in his face after only getting 2 on a back suplex. Hogan drives a knee into Orndorff who falls into the referee, and picks up Orndorff. He raises his arm and clotheslines him to the mat like Orndorff did when he turned on Hulk. Hogan goes for the piledriver but Heenan from behind nails him with a stool and the referee taps Orndorffs shoulders 3 times and he thinks he won it, and actually has the belt on and is half way out of the ring when the referee announces HOGAN as the winner by disqualification at 11:05. Well, that was kind of a weak ending. **1/4

WWF Wrestlemania III: (recycled)

WWF-World Championship Match:

Hulk Hogan © Vs. Andre The Giant (w/ Bobby Heenan)

Most famous staredown ever. Andre shoves Hogan, Hogan shoves andre, punch punch punch Slam........Andre falls on him for a 2 count. Andre looks pissed now. Andre with a club to the back, and another and a knee lift and body slam on the champion. Another slam follows followed by some Irish whips into the turnbuckle, trying to injure Hogans back. Andre with some shoulder thrusts to the midsection of Hogan. And Some BUTT splashes follow. Hope to God he doesn't shit on him. (see Brown, Bad News) Hogan comes back with some stiff right hands and a big roundhouse, an elbow and some chops across the chest of andre. Turnbuckle SHOTS OF DOOM. Andre with a low big boot takes back the advantage. Andre goes to the BEARHUG OF DEATH To kill some time. 1 hour time limit BTW......God, imagine them 2 for one hour?!?! Andre rams his own head into the ring post by accident and Hogan goes for a piledriver!!! On the concrete. Andre, in the worst reversals ever, sloppily drops Hogan so wrong, I'm not surprised Hogan stiffed Andre a few times afterwards. Hogan fights back and clothesline andre down hard!! Hulkamania is running wild. Body Slam!!!!!! Hogan with the Leg Drop!! 1....2......3 Its over and Hogan retains the title. 10:12. *1/2 Not that bad, but it still was almost the hype that made this match a classic. Hogan poses with the belt for a few minutes and the show ends with Hogan leaving in the mini cart.

Hogan is the only person to get a separate entrance before the match, and the WWF Champion had the nerve to come out with jobbers. Jobber Totem Poll Says Towers/Dibiase/Powers are the remaining people near the end. Hogan has a fit when he enters for some reason. Koko looks like a friggin midget standing next to Randy Savage. Running Knee lift and clothesline by Herc. Virgil distracts him while Dibiase nails a knee to the back and rolls him up for the pin at 16:36. Savage from behind rolls up Dibiase seconds later at 16:57 and its 3-on-2. Haku with a knee lift and those dumb forearms, a headbutt mises and Savage trips him up and tags Hogan who steps on his feet, but gets caught with a crescent kick. Bossman in and he pummels the back of Hogan. Bossman with a slam for only 2 and Akeem is back in, and he hammers Hogan some more. Haku in with a suplex for 2 and more chops to the neck and the nerve pinch of doom. Bossman in and he catches him with the sidewalk slam. He goes up top and misses the big splash and Hogan tags Savage. Savage hammers everyone in site but Slick trips him up. Bossman hammers Savage and locks a bearhug while Slick grabs Elizabeth, prompting Hogan to make the save, only to be ambushed by Akeem and Bossman who kick his ass and handcuff him to the ropes. Bossman is counted out at 23:17 in the meantime he hammers on Hogan with his nightstick, tearing him a new hole. Inside Haku & Savage fight. Savage hammers Akeem but Bossman uses the nightstick on Savage now causing Akeem to be disqualified, at 25:07, then drops a 747 splash on Savage. Haku continues working over Savage while Slick taunts Hogan with the keys to the handcuffs. In a twist of events, Haku accidentally kicks Slick off the apron, which leads to Elizabeth picking his pocket to retrieve the key, and freeing Hogan. Both men have a face to face confrontation, followed by a crisscross ending up in a double clothesline. #27 is The Barbarian (w/ Mr. Fuji) and he has easy picking right now. He basically stomps on both men for a little bit. #28 is "Ravishing Rick Rude [w/ Heenan also) who comes out prematurely to help The Barbarian. I guess they felt 3 no sellers alone in the round is too much. Rude hammers Warrior while Barbarian chokes Hogan. Back in, running elbow by Hulk, roundhouse, knife edge chop but Taker with an eye rake. Flair gets a steel chair and holds it up for Taker. Hogan reverses it and Taker smacks the steal, clothesline to flair! Big Boot!!! Flair gets Tunney to gain consciousness. Bearer misses Hogan and hits Taker with the urn. Hogan takes out the ashes of it (what a surprise) and nails Taker with it and rolls him up for 3 at 13:07 for his 4th title reign. *1/4. Nothing special, but fun match near the end. This only lasted 1 night since Tunney declares the title vacant. Hogan has black shit all of his hands from the ashes. Heenan is having a heart attack as Hulkamania lives on.

If you didn't notice, I did NOT do Flair/Hogan because a solo WCW match would throw the whole thing off, so i'll save it for when i finish my Hulk Hogan compilation tape review.

Final analysis: Overall it's a great tape for any Hulk Hogan fan, in this case is strongly recommended. I enjoyed it a lot, but if you get it for just the documentary, then you waisted your money. Strong Recommendation to View. (Unless you dispise Hogan)

How would a solo WCW match throw the whole thing off?

Good review otherwise

The Flair/Hogan match is the best one on the dvd.

Good review.

But I still scratch my head as to how so many bad matches = a good purchase.

Nice, easy-to-read review by not making the match recaps too long and wordy. Great DVD indeed!

Worthless sidenote: I always thought Hogan was referring to Alfred Hayes as "Uncle" Alfred but found it hard to put those two words together thus making it sound like he's saying "Awful". Ehh, I dunno.

Good review, as usual. After reading it, I feel like I've just watched the DVD over again, which is way too many Hogan matches for me.

Worthless side note: Unless your a big hulkamaniac like me, then DONT watch this DVD in 1 sitting.

This isn't about the DVD review, but rather a question to King Kamala. After seeing your signature's banner with Beefcake, I had to ask you this... Did you see his Ebay auction? If not, go to the link. One word describes it, HILARIOUS. As if you thought the description wasn't funny enough, look at the picture below it.

I saw it on the Wrestling Classics message board, it's pretty funny but really Beefcake's in no worse shape then Iron Shiek or Greg Valentine :D

Is Vince McMahon the ring announcer for the Shea match? I've looked at it several times and I can't decide if it is him or not.

Im pretty sure it was, but if i remember, the audio was low, so it's a little hard to tell.
