Guest DeputyHawk Posted October 25, 2002 Report Posted October 25, 2002 it's always struck me as a peculiar match. i didn't get raw at the time, so i don't know what the build was, if any. was it just stuck out there as filler, or was there reasoning and/or angle behind it? the only thing that stands out thinking back on it is that razor got face pops when he was supposed to be the heel, but that was just face bob on a hiding to nothing i think.
Guest Dr. Death Posted October 25, 2002 Report Posted October 25, 2002 I think there was a build up. I am not sure what though. Therefore it wasn't important so it was a filler.
Guest Kagato Otaku Posted October 25, 2002 Report Posted October 25, 2002 There wasn't one. They just slapped Razor and Backlund on the card because they had nothing better to do. the only thing that stands out thinking back on it is that razor got face pops when he was supposed to be the heel Razor was charismatic, Bobby pretty much a bore, and the audience picked up on that.
Guest converge241 Posted October 25, 2002 Report Posted October 25, 2002 i think they had some angle on Challenge or whatever where Backlund felt razor had no respect or honor
Guest Bricks Posted October 25, 2002 Report Posted October 25, 2002 Razor was pretty new to WWF, so I think it was one of those "new vs tradition" dealies.
Guest DARRYLXWF Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 Wasn't it the fist go at getting Hall pushed in the WWF/E?
Guest bravesfan Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 The Royal Rumble of that same year was the peak of his first WWF push, losing to Bret for the World title...he was getting decent heel heat, then went back down to mid-card for a while until he turned face.
Guest Choken One Posted October 26, 2002 Report Posted October 26, 2002 I think they brought him in perfect with the videos and then pairing with 3 savvay legends...really stood out because it was such a different thing, people HAD to love the guy...that's when it hit the fan...he became a fan's guy...he lost his edge.
cawthon777 Posted October 31, 2002 Report Posted October 31, 2002 The only buildup I recall was maybe a promo or two during one of the WrestleMania control center segments with Gene Okerlund. Razor was huge right up until the Rumble, which was noted earlier. He beat Bret Hart, Randy Savage, the Big Bossman - which is saying a lot considering he came into the company in June 92. After the Rumble they slowly took him from upper mid-card, to mid-card, and then had him basically be a jobber to set up his face turn.
Guest dreamer420 Posted November 1, 2002 Report Posted November 1, 2002 I liked that match because people really started to get into Razor Ramon during that match even though he was supposed to be a heel.
Guest Drury37 Posted November 1, 2002 Report Posted November 1, 2002 I remember like everyone was over my house during WWF WrestleMania IX and my cousin's and I were throwing tooth picks at the TV as a joke and it was funny because they were cheering for Razor Ramon instead of Bob Backlund, this match has been like a family favorite just because of the crowd cheering for Razor Ramon. Thanks.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted November 2, 2002 Report Posted November 2, 2002 Razor was feuding with Mr. Perfect at the time (I forget the reason, but they had several brawls on Challenge & Superstars), but Perfect was busy with Luger at Mania, so Ramon was just stuck with Backlund because he was a big name and Backlund was just off a great performance at the Royal Rumble Perfect had three feuds at once during this period (with Lawler, Luger & Razor), before moving on to Michaels after Wrestlemania.
Guest Drury37 Posted November 2, 2002 Report Posted November 2, 2002 Mr.Perfect was one of the top guys at this point and I felt like the WWF did a good job with him until WWF SummerSlam 1993 when I felt like they should have had him win the WWF Intercontinental Title!!! Thanks.

I saw the guys fight twice at house shows over the summer and I expected this to be MOTY. Lame count-out decision killed the show, IMO.
Guest Drury37 Posted November 6, 2002 Report Posted November 6, 2002 Yeah I mean that event was just like oh great but oh well because of what happened in that match and the WWF Title Match,Lex Luger winning by count out after all the Lex Express stuff was just rediculous!!! Thanks.
Guest Trivia247 Posted November 7, 2002 Report Posted November 7, 2002 I think all the buildup was Bob Backlund was making his Triphant Return to Wrestling, and Razor was.... Just Da Bad guy. that about covered it.

Watch the tape again and note that the ref only counted to 6 before ringing the bell. What a total crock to what was supposed to be a feud blowoff.
Guest nWoScorpion Posted November 8, 2002 Report Posted November 8, 2002 Perfect SUCKED in 1993. I don't know what everyone else is smoking. He was nothing but a Jobber except for 1 or 2 semi-good wins against the likes of Doink & Mr. Hughes (WOW!). He jobbed to Luger, Shawn Michaels & BRet Hart on PPV in the year, and his only notable moment top me was his retirement match vs. Flair, which was his last big moment in the WWF. The match at SSlam was NOT as good as it should have been, and niether was his Wrestlemania match. Then he was advertised for SSeries (which i ws hyped to see him in) but i knew he wouldnt be on it because he wasn't on TV at ALL from mid October til the PPV. Damn, this is what happens to you after you lose your perfect record (and montstrous heel heat)

Jesus, get the facts right unless your trying to sound like a moron. the Feud blowoff was suppose to be WM 10 btw genius, but dumbass Luger gave away results before the PPV happend. Schmuck which is named Luger.

I had more fun watching him as Ric Flair's executive consultant than I did during most of his matches.
