Guest Mattdotcom Report post Posted October 26, 2002 My friend's GameCube stopped working. It's giving him something like "Cannot read the disc.". Now, normally I wouldn't care, as most of my friends are smart enough to replace it or get it repaired, but this is turning my already idiotic pal into a Dreamcast-fanboy. Yes, ponder that. He wants to sell his games and get a Dreamcast. Not a PS2 or X-Box or new Cube. None of my business though. Anyhoo, has this happened to anybody else? This is one of the first times I've heard of a GameCube messing up and wanted to know and warn the others. And doesn't Nintendo offer a repair service? You know, Mario in a labcoat or something? Guest DrTom Report post Posted October 26, 2002 My PS2 does that every now and again. If it happens to him all the time, it could be the sign of a serious problem. The best thing to do is a little preventative maintenance: open the case up and use canned air to clean out the dust and debris. Make sure the laser(s) that read the disc aren't smudged or anything like that, make sure the disc tray sits in the proper position, etc. Most hardware like that comes with a one-year warranty, but Nintendo probably only offers replacement, and you're usually responsible for the shipping charges one way. Some video game stores will fix systems, though.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted October 26, 2002 tell the genius friend that Dreamcast does the Disc Error alot, even for minor dust or scratches on the game disc. But trading Gamecube for Dreamcast might be a better deal, especially with all of the emulators out for the system. But finding memory VMUs could be a problem.
