Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2002 I got back from a plainly enjoyable High School football game. Between the 3-4 Bears and the 0-7 Patriots. Now, this means something.. this is the first meeting on the new field between the cross-town rivals. Now, let me go over some stuff. We (The Bears team) won, and it was enjoyable. 35-25 was the final. The Patriots went into the game with 31 points all season, but by at least coming close to equaling their TDs all year (they had 4 tonight, before that, the total was 5) and points. But, they are 0-7, they couldn't just beat us. They'd have to hit an extra point first (they hit one tonight, I guess they've had 1 XP all year before). What fun is a game if you can't chant and piss people off? Since it seems that they keep a watch on the Student section, they swooped in on us a few times. They made sure we couldn't just have a huge bullhorn. Probably a good idea. They let us keep the small one, and we repeatedly played the funeral theme. The principal was quite displeased with us going into a chant of "Na na na Na na na Hey hey hey Goodbye" after going up 35-18. So what if this school has claimed a history of being good sports. This is a rivalry sucka! anyways, we probably took that philosophy since we never consistantly won in football (we did supposedly get on Letterman during our 30+ game losing streak in the 80s) Also, I'd say the local cop (I didn't see any other cops) were not happy when fans jumped the fence to run on the field after we won. So what? We won the 'Wagon Wheel' dealie. We sunk them to 0-8. Negative notes: People parked everywhere, not to mention the dumbasses who haven't realized that the road to the school goes from two to one lane so they have to merge and slow people down. Could have worked better with more confetti (more on that later) Positive notes: Starting off the events by blowing up alot of stuff (in this case, Fireworks) and having the lights off for it rocked. I'd guess the 7pm start was delayed as they waited for the lights to come on and all that. One more thing: Confetti. To be precise.. now, at the start of this game, they shot off a shitload of confetti into the stands. After all five of our touchdowns, they shot off confetti. I want them to keep the confetti gun. the fact that I wore a huge yellow wig for the fourth quarter rocked. Although I wanted to keep it. So.. with two more games with teams that were 2-5 before tonight in our district, winning the district is very possible. Next game is on Halloween night, then a November 8th game. Sure, both teams may suck, but the team just hasn't ever done that. Since both games are away games, it just won't be as fun when we beat them all (and go to the playoffs) I guess next year (for our first homegame in 2003), they will mention to the fans to "Not jump the fences to run onto the field at the end of games". That won't work. Now, remember the crazy times of sports, or just the times when "The man" went fascist on you all and stopped the fun. Remember the stuff.. now.. Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted October 26, 2002 I finally returned to the alma mater for the Homecoming game tonight. Unfortunately my thirst for female pursuing got the best of me, as I left during the third quarter when her and our group wanted to go. I feel kinda bad about it now, because I've ALWAYS stuck around for the entire game, because I like football THAT MUCH, no matter what the temptations are. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest Phr33k Report post Posted October 26, 2002 I play high school football. Western Canada Redmen. Defensive line. We aren't a bad team, we just stink up the field once too often. Injured. Sucks. 2 concussions, one week, can't stand, AARGH.
Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted October 26, 2002 I tried joining the wrestling team. I actually got silver in the Jr. High thing for my weight division a couple years ago. High School wrestling didn't work out as well. Had (well not HAD, but did) to quit because I inherited my dads terrible knees and was dropped on my neck with both of our weight going straight on top of it, not once, but twice in the same practice. It fucking sucked. I did manage to not get pinned unless we were practicing how to do the cradles and pins and such

Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted October 27, 2002 I ran track. Well, ran isn't the operative word, since running isn't my strong suit. Threw shotput and discus, since they wouldn't let me near the javelins for opposite reason. I'm not a phenomial athlete by any means. Hell, I was pleased to be as "successful" as I was. Still, I made it to States in the shotput in my senior year with a 40ft throw. But my atheletic talents are kinda non-existant. In fact, I think that's why I'm always attracted to hyper-athletic chicks. I love the fact that they're talented where I'm not, and I want to assocaite myself with someone who can do what I can't. I think. I just know I like hyper-athletic chicks.
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted October 27, 2002 My alma mater, Abilene Cooper, is playing our crosstown rival next Friday. What's more, both teams are 8-0 and ranked in the top ten in the state. I hated going to school there and I hate the town. It's going to be cold as fuck and probably rainy. I'm going to be living in temporary lodging at that point, which is horribly uncomfortable and not conducive to sleep. Think I'm going to the game? You damn skippy, hippie. Guest Spaceman Spiff Report post Posted October 27, 2002 My alma mater's football team was featured in an ESPN documentary a year or 2 ago (North Penn HS) EDIT: it was several years after I graduated, so I wasn't on the team (obviously). Nor did I play football in HS.

Guest cynicalprofit Report post Posted October 27, 2002 Highschool sports are all pointless except to get a kid a a college scholarship so he/she can become a professional althlete or get a degree, in which case, I applaud them, but certain people, dont deserve to go to college beause they can throw a ball or whatever, because they dont do shit to keep their scholarship. happened to a kid I graduated with, he got a scholarship and they dropped him because he was getting all D's. Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted October 27, 2002 My alma mater's football team pretty much sucked(we were to high school football what a weak Division III team is to college football.) We were quite good during my Freshman year, mainly because we had one player who was awesome, and if he could have had higher grades than D's, he may have actually had a shot at becoming a pro football player. Tthat year we did well, and even made some bowl game, which we lost 10-7 when the only good player on our team was shut down. Of course, it was cool, we had a pep rally and everything for it. No last class. Yippee! During my Sophomore year, the team went down the crapper. I attended the Homecoming game. I even made a float for the homecoming parade. It would have won best float if it wasn't for that nasty unwritten rule that the Seniors had to win the Homecoming trophy every year. Of course, when I was a Senior, it was such a big joke that none of the Seniors participated in anything, yet mysteriously won anyway. Well, the cheerleaders really liked the float I made, and wanted to use the lion that had an arrow sticking out of it(my team's nickname was the Arrows.) So, we were facing some tough inner city team that year, and, when the cheerleaders paraded the lion around, the opponents kindly put 56 straight points on the board, cancelling out the 7-0 lead we had as they won 56-14, I believe. The team never recovered. We sucked in Junior year, I think I went to the game, I cannot remember. If I did, the team actually won, much to my surprise. We were actually decent Senior year, and gave chase at first place in the division, but we felt short. I doubt I even attended that year, as I HATED my Senior year with a passion. I did not even attend the Homecoming dance that year. I have never been back since. I always meant to since my school is basically on the verge of closing now. Too bad though. I honestly doubt I would miss it if it did.
Guest BigPoppaKev Report post Posted October 27, 2002 I play for my high school football team and we were part of the best High School football game I have ever been to on Friday night. I may be unbiased but who gives a fuck. This game pretty much determined who was going to be the champions in our division and who goes to the Super Bowl. We pulled out the victory. For those who care here is a little run-down of the game (Credit to Worcester Telegram and Gazette): Auburn 21 Millbury 14 MILLBURY -- To loosen up his teammates before last night's game in Millbury, Auburn's Javier Mojica did a very poor but entertaining impression of the Rocket cheerleaders' dance routine. Luckily for Auburn, Mojica saved his best moves for the end of the game. With his team trailing, 14-13, with 20 seconds left, Mojica caught a short pass from Roy Courchaine, slipped a tackle and outraced every player on the field to give the Rockets a 21-14, come-from-behind win in what was undoubtedly one of the most-entertaining games of the year. “I was in one-on-one coverage and I knew right when I turned around Roy would have the ball there,” Mojica said while being mobbed by a healthy chunk of the Auburn student body. “Once I juked (the defender), I knew I only had one guy to beat, so I just put my head down and I was gone.” Auburn, ranked No. 9 in the Telegram & Gazette poll, improved to 6-1. More importantly, the Rockets are 3-0 in Division 2A in the driver's seat on the road to another Super Bowl. Millbury dropped to 4-3 and, with a 3-1 league mark, its Bowl hopes are still flickering. In the first half, it looked as if Millbury coach Dave Palazzi was at the controls of a PlayStation game rather than a football team. Behind the solid all-around play of quarterback Nick Hebert and multi-purpose back Paul Tetzel, Millbury methodically picked apart the Auburn secondary on its way to a 14-0 halftime lead. Hebert turned in a superb game, completing 15 passes to six different receivers. The junior also threw a touchdown pass to Tetzel and scored on a 2-yard run. Courchaine was equal to the task in a duel between the signal-callers, throwing for three touchdowns and 214 yards. “We have kids who've been with this program for a while and we trust them,” Auburn coach Jeff Cormier said. “We knew they'd come back eventually.” Cormier opted to challenge the high-powered Woolies through the air and Courchaine brought the Rockets back in the second half, firing touchdown passes of 30 and 24 yards to speedy Bryan Porcaro. Porcaro's second scoring reception, on a fade pattern in the right corner of the end zone, cut Millbury's lead to 14-13 with 2:44 remaining. The Woolies looked as if they would survive the Rockets' late onslaught when Courchaines's PAT attempt was blocked. However, Auburn's defense turned Millbury over on downs and, with no timeouts remaining, Cormier turned things over to his veteran offense. “The kids called the final play,” he said. “Our quarterback has been starting for four years and we have special receivers. When they came over to the sideline and said Javier could get loose in one-on-one coverage, (the coaching staff) decided to let them give it a shot.” Millbury was a dealt a serious blow after shifty halfback Joey Fiore left the game with a leg injury late in the second half and didn't return. Prior to exiting, Fiore rushed for 53 yards on 10 carries.
Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted October 29, 2002 My high school's football team has sucked for years. They lost for the sixth straight time in the annual Bald Eagle Area(my school, I graduated in 2001) vs Bellefonte game, dubbed the Curtin Bowl. Our wrestling team has long been one of the best in the country. In 1998-99 they were ranked #1 in the country.
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted October 30, 2002 Friday, November 1st, 2002 Shotwell Stadium in Abilene, Texas #3 Abilene High School (8-0) v. #5 Cooper High (8-0) The biggest high school football game in the history of Abilene. The entire town is abuzz. One of the most heated crosstown rivalries in all of Texas will come to a head when these two undefeated powerhouses collide. And I...won't be there because I couldn't get my ticket in time. 18,000 sold in three days. Motherfuckers.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted October 30, 2002 Our team sucks. We (I play on the team) went 1-9. Maybe it was more... I lost count. Our first game we got anally raped 55-0 if that indicated how bad we are/were.

Guest treble charged Report post Posted October 30, 2002 Is 18,000 a typical amount for a high school football game in the States? I can't fathom that many people going to watch a bunch of 16 and 17 year olds play.
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted October 30, 2002 18,000 is absolutely not typical under any circumstances. You can usually buy a ticket for a game there and sit wherever you want. Bradshaw's alma mater, Abilene Christian, plays there as well and they're lucky to bring in 500 fans. That should give you an indication of the enormity of this game to this town. I actually think it's the first time two undefeated, top ten teams from the same town have played each other this late in the season. It's huge. I really don't know where they're going to fit 18,000 people, though.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted October 30, 2002 Maybe the daughters could sit on the father's lap. That's how y'all seem do it in Abilene.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted October 30, 2002 I just can't believe that two high school teams can sell 18,000 tickets, when all my university has is a field with one set of bleachers, and not even a football team, since the school isn't big enough. In high school, the team was lucky to get 50 people at their games, and mostly that was parents watching their kids play. Most people were like me, buy a ticket to get out of class and go home early. High school sports just aren't that important in Canada.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 30, 2002 It's kind of a regional thing too. HS Basketball is a lot bigger around here than Football, and everyone worships fuckin' College Basketball, which I don't give a shit about, aside from the playoffs. Guest DerangedHermit Report post Posted October 31, 2002 In my school, football is first. The school's team is almost always a contender in the Class II division on LI. However, they're only 3-3 this year (they're in a rebuilding mode after their great senior players graduated). They beat South Side (from Nassau) last year for the Class II Championship and went 11-0.
Guest The Superstar Report post Posted October 31, 2002 Gulf Coast High School Sharks Swimming and Diving Team WON THE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP LAST NIGHT, BAYBEE~! The "important part" *cough* is bolded. Swimming: Sharks win county title Moments after Gulf Coast High won the log, a rotating trophy given annually to the winner of the Collier County high school swim meet, boys coach Harry Lawson sat in a chair, ready for the razor that awaited him. With a few quick strokes from each of the five team captains, Lawson lost the mustache he has worn since leaving the Army seven years ago. Then came a team dip at the YMCA Norris pool. For the first time in the 22-year history of the meet, a team other than Barron Collier or Naples won the points title. Gulf Coast did it with depth (a combined 60 swimmers on the boys and girls teams) and some fast times in both the individual events and the relays. "It's a tribute to all of our kids," Lawson said. "From the standpoint of key performers, every single one contributed. This was definitely for the unsung heroes." Added girls coach Allison Woodruff: "We used to practice right next to Barron Collier and for so many years we felt like we were in their shadow. We worked really hard for it and it's nice to see the team get recognition." When Gulf Coast started its swim program five years ago, there were 13 girls and 5 boys. The team has grown in part because the school has grown, and because Lawson and Woodruff both teach in the building. "Harry had done a great job building the program," Naples High coach Darryl Sullivan said. "You can't underestimate the importance of having a coach that teaches at the school. He can work the hallways and get the swimmers to come out." A couple of swimmers that had been there from nearly the beginning came through. Senior Alyson Reischl won both the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-individual medley. On the boys side, senior Nick Gronlund won the 100 butterfly. "It's gotten so much better," Reischl said. "We're a fast team now, but we're a spirited team, too. We all pull for each other." Reischl's younger brother, freshman Matt Reischl, won the 100-yard freestyle and finished second in the 50 freestyle. "I used to watch my sister when I was younger and I always wanted to go into the pool and help them out," he said. "Now, I'm finally getting a chance." Being quoted in the newspaper ROX~!
