Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted October 27, 2002 Entombed - Only heard what gets played on MusicChoice, and I liked it. HIM (now HER) - Heard very little, but sounds like your standard gothic rock band. I'll check 'em out. Dimmu Borgir - Good black metal! Meshuggah - Excellent stuff. Arch Enemy - Great music, good lyrics, and the best death vocalist in years. The Project Hate MCMXCIX - Haven't heard. Down - Disposeable. I like Superjoint Ritual and like Pantera, but not Down. In Flames - Excellent live show, but I prefer Dark Tranquility from the Gothenburg scene. Dark Funeral - Haven't heard much. The Haunted - If Slayer were a death band, they'd be The Haunted. EXCELLENT work. Venom - LAY DOWN YOUR SOUL FOR THE GODS' ROCK N' ROLL!!

Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted October 27, 2002 Entombed: Haven't heard. HIM (now HER): See above. Dimmu Borgir: Amazing STUDIO band, but couldn't play live worth shit. Meshuggah: They ownz. Arch Enemy: From what I have heard, I like. The Project Hate MCMXCIX: Decent, not big on them Down: What is this? Pantera's version of trying to get mainstream, minus Dimebag? Geesh. In Flames: One of the best bands to see live. Dark Funeral: Eh... The Haunted: Like corey said, the death metal version of slayer. Venom: These guys made death/black metal. They are Demi-Gods (next to Black Sabbath of course)
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted October 27, 2002 That's not fair, the only ones I've heard of are Meshuggah and Arch Enemy, and the only ones I've heard are Arch Enemy. It was good though, although I've heard more songs with Angela than the male vocalist guy. evenflowDDT = The Aluminum Foil of Metal
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 27, 2002 Entombed-Pretty fuckin' tough. HIM (now HER)-Never heard Dimmu Borgir-Good band, but terrible live. Meshuggah-I love these guys. Anything really off-timed and heavy, with no discernable melody has a place in my heart. Arch Enemy-So I finally heard them, and at first, I wasn't impressed at all, but that singer can seriously go low on some growls, and both guitarists are VERY talented. My opinion of them changed dramatically when they started to solo. Good band, but not something I can listen to all day. HOT singer, though, as shown in Areacode's sig. The Project Hate MCMXCIX-Haven't heard. Down-I love these guys. Swamped out bluesy metal. I definitely disagree with it being Pantera trying to go mainstream, since they've been around for YEARS, and had basically done jack shit until now. That said, NOLA is much better than II. In Flames-They fucking suck. Boring as hell. Dark Funeral-I've only heard a few tracks, no real opinion. The Haunted-Tough as fuck. Venom-Another one of those bands I like, but couldn't listen to all day. They remind me of a sicker version of Motorhead, for whatever reason.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted October 27, 2002 Venom probably remind you of Motörhead because they're heavy, obviously metal, inspired an entire style of metal (Venom inspired black metal, and Motörhead inspired thrash/death metal almost single-handedly), and sing about ROCK N' ROLL!!!! Guest converge241 Report post Posted October 28, 2002 Entombed - all i have is Wolverine Blues and thats pretty "eh" but ive heard its not a fair representaive of how good they can be HIM (now HER)- awesome. i got a copy of switchblade on import 2 yrs ago in the dollar used bin @ Newbury (suckers!) based off of the CKY videos Dimmu Borgir- Cunt hunters of the Night the kings of black metal Meshuggah - very scarily good technical and heavy "future breed machine" is the pinnacle Arch Enemy - dont know enough to comment but know of them The Project Hate MCMXCIX - ditto Down - awesome sabbtah southerny stoner rock both albums are equally good In Flames - THEY ARE YOUR GODS!!!!! Guest Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Report post Posted November 1, 2002 Entombed - One of the great first Swedish death metal bands. Now party thrash that I can stand for a maximum of 17 minutes at any time. HIM (now HER) - don't know this one. Dimmu Borgir - Kings Of The Carnival Creation indeed. Kings of modern black metal. Not that there's a lot of stiff competition. Meshuggah - have heard some of their shit but not enough to make a useful judgement. Arch Enemy - At the feet of the Amott brothers and the divine Angela Gossow you kneel. Project Hate - haven't heard Down - NOLA is near the top of my list for album of the 90's, A Bustle....is another strong album that you can just...float away with. In Flames - see Meshuggah Dark Funeral - Black Metal the way grandma likes it. The Haunted - see In Flames Venom - shitty band that started a beautiful musical revolution.
