The ONE and ONLY Hammer Films Thread

Recommended Posts

Guest Pop Culture God

Well, it's almost Halloween so I thought a thread devoted to the greatest horror film studio of all time was fitting. Hammer was an English studio whose two stars, Christopher Lee (Star Wars Episode II) and Peter Cushing (Star Wars: A New Hope) are generally considered the best horror actors of their time. For a sampling of some of their films, and a brief history go here: http://www.houseofhorrors.com/hammer.htm

The first topic: Who was cooler, Lee or Cushing?

Christopher Lee was easily cooler. Cushing usually played the good guys while Lee was usually the villian.

Villians = cooler than the hero

But when it's Peter Cushing? I don't know?

BTW, Watch "Brides of Dracula" to see a bad-ass Cushing beat the shit out of some pretty-boy vampire who was not Dracula to root for Cushing without rooting against Lee.

Don't get me wrong, Cushing isn't a bad hero by any means and he's great in his own right. Lee just always seemed cooler in the roles he's played. Lee just has this sinister vibe about him that makes him cooler than Cushing.

I've only seen two of them, Horror of Dracula and the Seven Golden Vampires, but they were pretty cool in their bizarro sixties half psychedelic, half quiet gothic kind of way, and I certainly wouldn't mind seeing more.

P.S. Considering that he was in Star Wars and LOTR as well, does this make Christopher Lee into Geek Film King of the world?

It's close but I'd say Lee is cooler than Cushing. Lee just has such an awesomely sinister screen prescence and the ability to just make even the most insignificant piece of dialogue sound like the most evil thing you ever heard.
