Guest Kinetic Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 And as a public service, I feel it's my duty to warn all of you that the opinions expressed in the Andrew WK article are not necessarily those of a sane man.
Guest Incandenza Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 may I suggest The Shins or the Green Pajamas (though The GPs are more psychadelia oriented) ::marks for the Shins:: Kinetic--Blow me.
Guest The Amazing Rando Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 ...wow....I found a Shin mark.... SWEET~!
Guest Incandenza Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 Fuck yeah, Rando. Oh, Inverted World is awesome.
Guest Kinetic Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 may I suggest The Shins or the Green Pajamas (though The GPs are more psychadelia oriented) You may. Oh, Inverted World is a great, great album. They've got a Simon & Garfunkel thing going on, but without the whole "this is the 60s so we have to have an inflated sense of self-importance" vibe that you get from albums like Bookends.
Guest The Amazing Rando Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 "One By One All Day" is one of my favorite songs of all time
Guest Incandenza Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 I'm ready to vote Rando into the Establishment for mentioning the Shins.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 That's not fair... I've never heard of the Shins...
Guest MrRant Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 I think some people don't like to have to explain anything in depth. For example... I like the music I like because that is what my dad listened to while I was growing up. Nothing more needs to be added but like Puro that doesn't seem to be enough.
Guest Kinetic Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 I'm ready to support that wholeheartedly. I wasn't aware that such an undercurrent of support for The Shins existed here.
Guest Incandenza Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 That's not fair... I've never heard of the Shins... THATS CUZ WE'RE BETTER THAN YOU CUZ WE'RE TALKING ABOUT A BAND YOUVE NEVER HEARD OF.
Guest Kinetic Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 Man, if I listened to the music my dad liked when I was growing up...I'd be screwed. There isn't a whole lot of Night Ranger material out there.
Guest The Amazing Rando Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 somebody needs to hook me up with some obscure stuff to listen to.....like Sunny Day Real Estate... **oh...and the Angels just won the World Series...I thought I would point that out even though I'm not a big baseball fan**
Guest Kinetic Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 "One By One All Day" is one of my favorite songs of all time I'm going to be really lame and cast my vote for "New Slang." It just breaks my heart. I heard that they signed a promotional deal with McDonald's over that song, actually.
Guest Kinetic Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 I only have one Sunny Day Real Estate album. How It Feels To Be Something On. I can't say as though I've listened to it much.
Guest The Amazing Rando Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 yeah...'New Slang' was in a MickeyD's commercial...
Guest MrRant Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 Man, if I listened to the music my dad liked when I was growing up...I'd be screwed. There isn't a whole lot of Night Ranger material out there. That is probably why you are such a music asshole... your parents did it to you. Quick... call Oprah!
Guest Incandenza Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 I think some people don't like to have to explain anything in depth. For example... I like the music I like because that is what my dad listened to while I was growing up. Nothing more needs to be added but like Puro that doesn't seem to be enough. I see what you're saying, but, the difference between the Music and Puro folders is this: we, at Music, usually stay out of threads involving bands we don't like. With the exception of mesepher--who takes every opportunity to display his ignorance about rap in each and every thread devoted to it--we leave well enough alone. In Puro, however, they attack EVERYONE different from them.
Guest The Amazing Rando Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 I only have one Sunny Day Real Estate album. How It Feels To Be Something On. I can't say as though I've listened to it much. I have The Rising Tide and although I don't listen to it much I was just trying to come up with some obscure band name to put in my post...
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 i know it's all ultimately subjective, but i just never saw the point in having a music discussion if all that's said is "i like ___", "oh, well i like ___". there's nothing particularly interesting about a discussion like that. which is i guess one of the reasons you stay away from the folder. I guess. I usually keep to myself. While I have my opinions, I don't feel the need to express them very often (if at all). There's nothing I have to prove to anyone else. Or else, I'd probably go off on the entire board for having the jackassed opinions they do. Though some might get a kick out of that.
Guest Incandenza Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 The only Sunny Day Real Esate I've heard the whole way through is The Rising Tide, and I can't say it impressed me much. A little too prog for my taste.
Guest Kinetic Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 Man, if I listened to the music my dad liked when I was growing up...I'd be screwed. There isn't a whole lot of Night Ranger material out there. That is probably why you are such a music asshole... your parents did it to you. Quick... call Oprah! That's exactly what it is. My dad has always been a fan of whatever modern rock music is out there and it would have destroyed my rebellious phase to listen to what he was listening to. I was forced to seek out other stuff. Me being an asshole about anything is just my natural demeanour shining through, though.
Guest The Amazing Rando Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 what about celtic rock like Seven Nations or Off Kilter?
Guest Incandenza Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 what about celtic rock like Seven Nations or Off Kilter? Can't say I'm terribly familiar with either. If I downloaded shit more often, I suppose I'd be up to snuff. Fortunately, my newfound gig in college radio is going to expose me to A LOT of stuff.
Guest The Amazing Rando Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 Off Kilter is actually a band that plays in the Canada pavilion of Epcot here in Disney World...and I love them... they played "I'm Too Sexy" with bagpipes! and yes, I love college radio...it's how I got into a lot of music that influences me, like Buckethead & The Housemartins
Guest LooseCannon Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 I'm surprised by and also appreciate those who have bandied my name about for this thing. Looking at CWM's list, there are quite a few people who I might suspect are more established than me. Of course most of them are not nearly the poster that I am, but I wouldn't have necessarily suspected that anyone other than myself could see the subtle and implied genius in every single one of my posts. So kudos to those of you who have. godthedog - watch it with the Oasis comments there. I'm vaguely amused for now, but there's a very fine line between what makes an aphetamine addicted redneck with a shot-gun chuckle quietly with conviviality and what makes that same redneck start putting bullets in pretentious movie and music elitists from the big city. If you catch my drift.
Guest Banky Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 I'd vote for the Loose Canon myself.
Guest godthedog Posted October 28, 2002 Report Posted October 28, 2002 i'm not from the big city, i live in athens.
