Bored. So I got some stats of movie dollar amounts...only listed movies that are still being played on the big screen. Many of the stats are only accurate as of last week...only listing movies in the top 100

BIG BUCKS

Sweet Home Alabama $107,200,000

My Big Fat Greek Wedding $177,804,869

Red Dragon $84,976,000

Signs $225,266,143...still being played on in over 400 screens

STILL BEING PLAYED???

Lilo & Stitch $144,561,702

Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams $84,528,653

Austin Powers in Goldmember $212,689,922

The Bourne Identity $121,121,235...still on in over 100 screens

Mr. Deeds $125,906,467...STILL in over 100 screens

Scooby-Doo WB $52,380 $153,243,965

Road to Perdition $103,902,447...still on 71 screens

Minority Report $131,976,146...still on 60 screens

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones $302,155,319...still around, and over $300 million

BOMBS!!!

Formula 51 SONY/SCREEN $2,817,719...movie looks awful and didn't even crack the top 10 opening weekend.

The Four Feathers $17,820,499...while $17 million sounds like a lot, I'm sure they had much higher hopes for this one

Ballistic: Ecks Vs. Sever $14,116,585...Already fallen out of the top 50! Cost about $70 million to make, and playing on less then 100 screens

Swept Away $553,102...MADONA=BAD...not even on 200 screens, and it's only a couple weeks old, getting panned by every critic in the world.

Yes folks, I was that bored :D

Wow...Can't believe that some of those are still being played. That has to mean playing in Foreign countries, i mean hell several of those are already on DVD.

Someone give me a rough estimate of the top 10 grossing movies of the year so far. If you're bored enough. I'm just lazy.

Scooby-Doo is in the top 10? I thought it did fairly well, but jesus. That just ain't right.

Harry Potter & LOTR will make the top ten easily (maybe not LOTR since it opens so late in December, it might not be counted).

"Like Mike" is still playing and has grossed over 50 Million.

I'm surprised.

I still want to see Formula 51. Sam L kicks ass in a kilt with a golf club and produces a raver drug.

I think it was made with me in mind.

It's not that uncommon for movies like Scooby Doo that they push through from cinema to video to still be playing on some screens in the el-cheapo theaters when they come out on DVD. I'm not sure why they do it, but it's not unheard of. It usually happens with movies aimed at kids, that's why films like Lilo and Stitch are still running in the theaters. It doesn't cost anyone anything for the prints (they're just taken from other theaters and shipped around) and a cheap theater can make a ton of money selling tickets for a buck or two and then selling a ton of popcorn and candy to parents taking pre-schoolers to see the movies on weekdays when the theater isn't crowded and they don't have to feel embarassed if the kids make noise.

Places like those are godsends for Parents and Nanny's. Spend 1.50 for 2 hours of quiet...works for me...I must have spent 25 dollars over a week when watching my nephew a few months ago just by taking him to see Shrek over and over again.

Signs DID suck. I don't give a shit about the regaining of faith and crap like that. Those are just ways for people to rationalize such a goddamn awful movie.

I thought Signs was hilarious. Seriously. Joaquin Phoenix, whose name I will never spell correctly, needs to start getting his own movies. Watching him kick ass and seeing other actors get all the credit is pissing me off.

Anyway, the reason for this post is, Sings is the only one in the top 10 that I was advised not to see by many different people. Signs I got a couple, but it didn't match the sheer volume of the others.

I was going to see Men in Black untill I found out it was 80 minutes long. pfffffft.

A little update: Greek Wedding did over $7 mil this week, which would put it over Lilo & Stich, and poised to take over MIBII shortly. Who'd thunk it?
