Guest Blackston Report post Posted October 28, 2002 National Game of the Week: Colorado (6-2)(4-0) at Oklahoma (7-0)(3-0) Synopsis: The first unbeaten team to receive a stiff challenge next weekend would have to be Oklahoma. While the Buffalos started the season on a tepid note, CU has just been on fire in conference play. Colorado is currently on a five game winning streak, which includes two difficult games against then-ranked opposition. In their last game, the Buffalos managed to shut down the Texas Tech Red Raiders, who were led by vaunted quarterback Kliff Kingsbury. Honestly, if CU could shut down the Red Raiders offensive scheme, then they should be able to make waves against the very average Oklahoma offense. Oklahoma's strength is certainly in it's smothering defense. In OU's last game, they took a wildly hyped Iowa State team, who were led by the, at the time, Heisman frontrunner, Senaca Wallace. After Mr. Wallace went 4-22 for all of 43 yards, his Heisman hopes were pretty much wrecked... But then again, smashing high-octane offenses is generally one of Oklahoma's favorite pastimes, just ask Chris Sims and the Texas Longhorns. This weekends foe will be Colorado super running back Chris Brown. I like Oklahoma's defense against highly tauted quarterbacks, but it sort of remains to be seen if OU can stop a great running back. Regardless of the outcome in this one, look for there to be a rematch in the Big XII Championship game. In this one, I think I'm going to take Oklahoma, since the game is going to be played in Norman... I don't know about the Conference Championship game, yet... lets just wait til we get there. The line: Oklahoma by 13 My pick: Oklahoma by 10 ACC Game of the Week: Georgia Tech (5-3)(2-3) at N.C. State (9-0)(4-0) Synopsis: Wow, who would have thought that the Wolfpack would be heads and shoulders playing the best football in the ACC at this point in the year? N.C. State has jumped out from nowhere to have themselves a tremendous season thusfar, and are looking to take the ACC Championship home. Georgia Tech is having a relatively disappointing season thusfar, but I'm sure that they would love nothing more then to be a spoiler for another team's championship season. The Wolfpack have been led to their prestigious position behind the arm of their quarterback Philip River, and he will have to have a great game in order to protect their home turf against the invading Yellow Jackets. This Wolfpack team is the same team that got taken to the wire against lowly Duke, so they are a suseptical to an upset, but I think that they will hold serve in this game, en route to their end-of-season game against the Noles for all of the marbles. The line: NC State by 10 My pick: NC State by 7 Big East Game of the Week: Pittsburgh (6-2)(3-0) at Virginia Tech (8-0)(3-0) Synopsis: Sometimes lost in the shuffle of the Big East standings lies the Pittsburgh Panthers. Sure, they are not nearly as dominant a team as Miami, and they don't have the great skill players that Virginia Tech has, but they have slowly gotten themselves out to a very good start. Virginia Tech, on the other hand, has gotten themselves out to a perfect season thusfar, mostly behind the legs of Lee Suggs and Kevin Jones. There is some worry to be found in Hokieland, unfortunately, as Va. Tech has been less than impressive against some of the worst teams that the Big East has to offer. In their last three games, they squeaked past Boston College by five (don't get me wrong, the Eagles are a quality team. Go BC, beat ND!), were less than dominant in their home game against Rutgers, and their home matchup against Temple was almost a disaster, as the Hokies won by only 10. I cannot tell if this is a sign of a team that is staggering on the ropes, or if it is just a team that plays down to the quality of the opposition. I'm going to go ahead and give the Hokies the benefit of the doubt on this one and have them win the game, but do not be surprised if they get dropped this weekend. The line: Virginia Tech by 13 My pick: Virginia Tech by 6 Big Ten Game of the Week: Minnesota (7-1)(3-1) at Ohio State (9-0)(4-0) Synopsis: Perhaps the most maligned of the major unbeaten teams, Ohio State will have it's hands full this Saturday when they welcome Minnesota to Ohio Stadium. Both teams face their share of criticism, Minnesota for playing a schedule full of creampuffs, Ohio State for never truly dominating a game. This should be a statement game for one of the two teams MORE LATER
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted October 28, 2002 I'm excited about the Minnesota-Ohio St. game. The undersized O-Line for Minnesota faces its biggest test of the season. Hopefully Clarrett won't be healthy.

Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted October 29, 2002 Bowling Green has a showdown coming with Northern Illinois. NIU nearly beat Wisconsin and have one of the best running backs in the nation in Michael Turner. Could be a great mid-major showdown. Pac-10 has a great matchup, with the #9 Washington State Cougars taking on the #16 Arizona State Sun Devils. Oh man I hope this is a patented PAC-10 SHOOTOUT OF DOOM, two great QB's in WSU's Jason Gesser and ASU's Andrew Walter going at it. WSU has the better team and they get ASU at Pullman. Of course, home field didn't matter when ASU went to Oregon, destroyed the Oregon secondary and got the win. Should be a great game, I pick WSU to win, they have the better defense overall. Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted October 29, 2002 Notre Dame vs Boston College --I'm loving Ty Willingham more and more. I read in the paper yesterday that on the plan to the FSU game, they showed a tape of the big game they played in 1993 that ND won. He decided to motivate them on the trip back, so he put in a tape of the Boston College upset that happened one week later. I think the players got the message, and they won't let that happen again. I still have nightmares about that game. Damn those Eagles...

Guest benoitrulz4life Report post Posted October 29, 2002 Notre Dame is a bunch of overrated dicks, have been for years and years. Man they fucked over Alabama at least twice in the championship scene. Big props for Bama for beating Tennessee's pathetic asses in Knoxville.
