Guest DragonflyKid Report post Posted October 29, 2002 I saw AJW's Best*One and the Kong/Toyota match was fantastic. I probably should have seen AJW's BEWU first for the Toyota/Kong match but that's on tap for today's viewing and I'll probably see Best*One again afterwards. The six woman's match on Best*One was also very good with Hokuto being the highlight but all were good, it was the first Bennet match I have seen and she wasn't bad, she moved around well for a women her size. Rikishi's stinkface was stolen from Japan!!! One of the clips from AJW's Best*One was a comedy midget's match that had an obese midget pulling down his trunks to reveal his bare ass which he proceded to stuff in his opponent's face. His nauseated opponent then took the ten count. From all the athleticism the women wrestlers display I was wondering if any women has hit a SSP or a 450 splash? There was alot of hoopla concerning the WNBA dunk and I was wondering if joshi puroresu wrestlers have the power to perform such moves as the 450 splash and SSP. Hokuto vs. Toyota 6/17/90: They looked to be on their way to putting on a good match when Hokuto(Sans her later ring style and looking butch, almost unrecognizable.) hit her shin on the gaurdrail when attempting a plancha. She could barely stand but wanted to continue, after pleading with the ref and others they ended the match. This looked like something that would be worked even though it was a shoot. Hokuto while crying in pain was yelling for the match to continue, while this was going on Toyota looked like she was ready to continue fighting but was also looking like she was on the verge of tears when looking at the pain Hokuto was in. A must watch for Hokuto's exhibition of fighting spirit moreso than the match itself, she also has had her neck broken and her knees damaged yet kept coming back as the premier women's wrestler. I have also seen Hokuto/Toyota 8/21/93 and 9/2/95 and both were great.

Unless goofy-ass wrestling is your thing, it's like *** at best. While 8/93 is a legit MOTYC and at least ****1/2.
Guest Jubuki Report post Posted October 29, 2002 Ai Fujita does a Firebird. Don't think she or anyone else does an SSP...yet.

The 9/95 isn't in the same league. Unless goofy-ass wrestling is your thing, it's like *** at best. While 8/93 is a legit MOTYC and at least ****1/2. I do feel 9/95 was inferior but still thought it was ****1/2. I have seen it ranked ****3/4-***** and it did place high on the DVDVR JBOT90's so I guess it's a matter of taste. Kobashi is my favorite male wrestler and Toyota is my favorite female wrestler so I admit to enjoying "goofy-ass wrestling" more than most. Speaking of goofy-ass wrestling I was watching Liger vs. Kanemoto 7/15/98, I'm not caught up that far with NJ in general but did the Fisherman's Buster lose it's effectiveness from '94/'95 to '98? That move was killer especially when done from the top rope. Kanemoto kicked out of one top rope Fisherman's Buster then no-sold the 2nd one. WTF? Jubuki Posted on Oct 29 2002, 03:28 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ai Fujita does a Firebird. Don't think she or anyone else does an SSP...yet. I would think a 450 or SSP would be on the same level of difficulty as the Firebird. The SSP going unattempted especially suprises me. It doesn't seem overly hard to perform, male wrestlers are even doing it standing. Hitting the landing accurately does seem to be the difficult part but I would have though someone would have at least tried it.
Guest Dace59 Report post Posted October 30, 2002 A Firebird is a 450. If he's talking about the name of Busa's one.
Guest DragonflyKid Report post Posted October 30, 2002 I must have been thinking the Firebird is the Skytwister press.
Guest Dace59 Report post Posted October 30, 2002 Skywister press isnt totally easy to pull off it's self.
Guest DragonflyKid Report post Posted October 30, 2002 Yea I know, I was thinking the Firebird was the Skytwister thus thought a women had pulled it off. I was thinking if they could pull a Skytwister off why can't they pull off a 450 or a SSP.
Guest Dace59 Report post Posted October 30, 2002 I'd think a 450 would be easier than a Skytwister.
Guest wolverine Report post Posted October 30, 2002 "I do feel 9/95 was inferior but still thought it was ****1/2." Holy crap, then when you see Ito vs. Momoe 9/16/01, it's likely to be *****+++.

Holy crap, then when you see Ito vs. Momoe 9/16/01, it's likely to be *****+++. I'm expecting the tape with the Momoe/Ito match any day now. Hopefully it'll arrive before tuesday as I'll be leaving town next week. My taste in wrestling is strange, I can't get into high-grade matches that involve hateful brawling like some. I see the greatness in Hokuto/Kandori from DS and the Flair/Funk "I quit" from '89 but I don't see them as ***** classics. I probably liked the Hokuto/Kandori rematch just as much as the DS match. Goofy-ass wrestling > Intense, dramatic hate-filled brawls. Since it only took a few minutes I set up a web page with my matchlists and ratings which should disturb whoever goes there. EDIT: Not to say the Hokuto/Kandori match was just brawling. I loved the submissions I just didn't care for the outside the ring stuff enough to warrant giving it *****, I would still put it at near ***** but I just can't see it's as being transcendent as many do. Guest Jubuki Report post Posted October 30, 2002 If you've ever seen Chapparita ASARI in action, you'd know the Skytwister is probably too difficult for anyone's safety. Ai does the Firebird all the time, though. I think it may be a Phoenix Splash that she was working on...but I might be wrong.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted October 30, 2002 Yeah, the Sky Twister looks really dangerous, whether she actually connects with it or not.
