Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted October 30, 2002 It's live and it's at the University of Minnesota and they keep showing all the guys on the big screen. Biggest pops so far: Clintons, Kennedy, & Mondale (HUGE face heat). Big Heel Heat for Trent Lott, btw. Ventura just came out and didn't get a very big ovation. Al Gore just came out to big face heat. Isn't it pathetic I'm comparing this to wrestling?
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted October 30, 2002 I was wondering where Bush was...but I heard they actually told him and Cheney not to show up considering the circumstances of their relationship (really bad). It would of been funny to see Bush get huge heel heat, though.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2002 Yeah but you can't put much faith into those pops because MN fans cheer for anyone. All Mondale had to do was say "It's great to be back at ... THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNISOTA!" (waits for Foley-ish cheap pop)
Guest I'm That Damn Zzzzz Report post Posted October 30, 2002 I don't get c-span 2 but I read on a news site that people are cheering Mondale at this service. Is that true? It's pretty low if it is.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted October 30, 2002 A bunch of Wellstone supporters booing Republicans and cheering Democrats?!?!?!?! I'm shocked ...
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted October 30, 2002 I'm sorry Wellstone and the others died. But this was the biggest load of crap. This was 4 hour political rally and all the networks up here aired it. There was some jackass on yelling everyone to vote for Wellstone. When do the Republicans get this kinda coverage. Guest EricMM Report post Posted October 30, 2002 When one of them dies?
Guest goodolemr Report post Posted October 30, 2002 I think Slate.com sums it up nicely: "Politics is not about winning for the sake of winning," Wellstone declares in a videotaped speech shown on the overhead screens. "Politics is about improving people's lives." But as the evening's speakers proceed, it becomes clear that to them, honoring Wellstone's legacy is all about winning the election. Repeating the words of Wellstone's son, the assembly shouts, "We will win! We will win!" Rick Kahn, a friend of Wellstone's, urges everyone to "set aside the partisan bickering," but in the next breath he challenges several Republican senators in attendance to "honor your friend" by helping to "win this election for Paul Wellstone." What can he be thinking? There's a salutary practicality about many of the liberal clichés repeated and applauded tonight. But there's a creepy arrogance about them, too. The ceremony's closing speaker, Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa, says Wellstone "never took himself too seriously" and "never had to proclaim his decency." Yet tonight, the men and women who purport to represent Wellstone's legacy are taking themselves quite seriously and constantly proclaiming their decency. "We can redeem the sacrifice of his life if you help us win this election for Paul Wellstone," Kahn tells the crowd. Somewhere, Wellstone must be turning on his cross. Above the stage hangs an immense cubic scoreboard. During basketball games, it's electrified and illuminated from above. Tonight it looms just above the stage lights, blank and unlit. A man has died. This is no time to keep score.

Guest Razor Roman Report post Posted October 30, 2002 This whole Wellstone thing is ridiculous and it really ticks me off. They started whispering Mondale's name withint minutes of Wellstone's death, meanwhile they go on TV and accuse Norm Coleman (the Republican candidate) of being political when he was obviously not. The Democrats are saying "Can't Norm Coleman let us pull his body from the woods, and bury his bones in the ground before we talk politics" The Democrats are using Wellstone's death for political gain. Truth be told, Wellstone was probably more of a pain in the neck for Daschle than a benefit, and a different senator, as long as he's in the D column would be better for Dasch-hole. They're using his death for political gain, and it's disgusting, and something that I am SURE that Wellstone would NEVER do.

Guest Downhome Report post Posted October 30, 2002 God Bless Ventura, seriously. I was sickend of this meeting, as it was NOTHING but a political rally. They should have put politics aside for this event, but instead, they had those who are not of their party to show up, and were eaten alive. I am glad Ventura is being vocal about this, and just might do something about it!
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted October 30, 2002 I was wondering where Bush was...but I heard they actually told him and Cheney not to show up considering the circumstances of their relationship (really bad). It would of been funny to see Bush get huge heel heat, though. I think Cheney was asked not to show up because of all the security measures that would haev needed to be taken. Getting frisked before a funeral is a little bit much. Bush wasn't going to go at all. This was fucking unbelieveable. The left has really stooped to new lows with this one. A man, his wife, one of his daughters, 3 of his staffers, and 2 pilots died and they have a political rally with all this "lets win one for the gipper" bullshit. They and the netwoks who continued to air it after it became apparent what it was should be ashamed of themselves.

Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted October 31, 2002 Agree on the Ventura comment. I saw his sound bites after the service/rally -- priceless. Why should anyone be shocked at this behavior by the Left Wing? After all, these are the guys who booed the BOY SCOUTS at the 2000 Dem. Convention...
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2002 Republicans wouldn't have to pull something like that to win an election. The Dems are desperate and it's obvious. At least Streisand wasn't there. If you've been paying attention, the Dems have been politicising everything as of late. "Oh forget about that war thing, pay attention to the economy cause that's the only thing that is going to keep our guys in office! Wow, our president sucks so bad, look at how bad the economy is ... but forget about the fact that it started going down when Clinton was still in office." Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted October 31, 2002 Hell, even the Federal Liberals wouldn't do that in Canada. The NDP might, but nobody cares about them anyways.
Guest Mad Dog Report post Posted October 31, 2002 Actually I really doubt the Republicans would do that. For the most part they know they can't get a free pass from the media on stuff like this.
Guest Olympic Slam Report post Posted October 31, 2002 A man and many others DIE and the only thing the left sees them as is bait to win a measely election. I don't think they realize that he DIED. Let me reapeat this, he DIED and all they see is desperation to win or secure a Senate seat. Is this all a person's life is worth to these people, a tiny little Senate seat in a sea of wishy washy moderates? This truly shows how disgusting the Democrats are, they always seem to test the limits of "ethical limbo." Wellstone should be remembered as a fine man, father and husband. Regardless of whether or not you agreed with his ideaology, everyone should agree that last night's "memorial" was not the proper way to pay respect.
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted October 31, 2002 Hey, how about we talk about the Republican congressman who an hour (a fucking hour!) after the WTC collapsed on 9/11 went on cnn and said that this proves the Democrats wrong about spending more money from the budget on healthcare and education. Guest treble charged Report post Posted October 31, 2002 It's politics. Politicans will be politicians, regardless of their affiliation. As someone who advocated killing all of them earlier, I'm not listening to a word you say. And anyone who says that the Republicans wouldn't do this is a damn liar. Both parties would, one already has, and it happens to be the one you don't like. Get over it. I'm registered as an Independent, and this is a good example of why.
