Guest BoboBrazil Report post Posted October 30, 2002 In what has to be seen as great news to actual wrestling fans (as opposed to whatever the fan base is that WWE has been marketing Raw to the last few weeks), the Raw rating dropped again this week. Since it's accepted within the industry that this week's show will largely draw next week's rating, that means that since WWE started the Katie Vick-Kane-HHH storyline, Raw's rating has gone down each week. This week's show did hours of 3.4 and 3.5 according to Nielsen Media Research. I believe the final number will end up at a 3.5, with a 5.3 share, but I can't double check since I am away this week on vacation. Two weeks ago, the night that HHH called Kane a "murderer", Raw did a 3.8. Last week, when HHH had simulated sex with a mannequin, the show dropped to a 3.7. This week it dropped even further. It's well known in WWE right now that the main indicator that the company is counting on to determine whether their new direction to a "Jackass" style show is working or not will be Raw's ratings. So far, it seems as if the viewers are sending Vince McMahon a message as to what they want, and what they don't want, in Raw. Let's hope he listens. 1wrestling.com

Guest RenegadeX28 Report post Posted October 30, 2002 Finally, it reflects in the ratings. But, we all know that Vinnie doesn't care.....(gets ready for more Katie Vick)
Guest bcu1979 Report post Posted October 30, 2002 The show started off with a Triple H interview and Triple H/Kane fight. They had interviews halfway through the show promoting the big casket match with Triple H and Kane. The announcers hyped the damn thing up the entire 2 hours at the expense of the other matches. No one else for them to blame this time. I'm not hoping for too much but this should kill the Kane push at the least.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted October 30, 2002 *points to Ratings* ...And folks, they earned it!
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted October 30, 2002 kill kane push? no, improve his god damn push not the necrophilia angle. make him a fuckin apeshit heel, that has no fuckin charisma.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted October 30, 2002 The day Vince listens is the day he goes crazy. You say that as if it hasn't already happened I'm just glad that they can't blame someone like Jericho or RVD now seeing how they are low midcard with no major tv time. Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted October 30, 2002 What would be REALLY funny is if Smackdown's rating went UP after this! I hope so, provided it doesn't turn into the Big Show Show. Well, actually, he'll be facing the other load of crap Rikishi, and with no Taker, the workrate should be great. Dunno how it being Halloween would affect it. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted October 30, 2002 Well I'm pretty sure that WWe wants higher ratings on Smackdown. Thus why they took a blow torch to Raw.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted October 30, 2002 well it looks like Smackdown will have to carry another PPV again. Kane Push = Bubba Dudley Push both are not true ME contenders outside tag teams or even single draws......below X-Pac levels.

ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2002 Well I'm pretty sure that WWe wants higher ratings on Smackdown. Thus why they took a blow torch to Raw. So...they're going with Smackdown to Raw what Raw did to Superstars so many years? I wouldn't mind that.
ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2002 0.2 is way down? When you're looking for ratings to rise because of the things that you are doing on your show, then yes, 0.2 is way down.
Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted October 30, 2002 HA! The rating was deserved, thats for sure. I guess this proves the *gasp* wrestling=ratings, not stupid angles that don't really make much sense.
Guest RedJed Report post Posted October 30, 2002 Will this be enough for Vince and his crew to pull the plug on the 99 booking? I'm not sure, since these aren't significant drops. A .2 drop is nothing to Vince, and honestly isn't alot, but alot of .2 drops in the past 18 months means ALOT. This may be just another case where Vince doesn't look at it straightforward and the decline continues slowly, just as it has these past 18 months. I think it's not paid attention to because there has never been really huge enormous drops in the numbers. This is probably because there is no suitable competition on the same level the WWE has for exposure right now. If there was you would be significant drops in between weeks, and eyes would open up. Regarding this "Get It - The Next Generation" direction, I was able and willing to defend the WWF back then regarding alot of stuff. But nowadays its hard to actually applaud this direction because its not benefiting everyone. I think the reason why I can't is because this is the center formula for trying to succeed and before you at least had fresh faces on top and the booking was coherant enough that a few low brow things once in awhile didn't damage the overall product, in fact it helped it gain positive controversy. Times change and you can't go back to a similar and previous sucessful formula over and over again. That is a hard lesson WCW and the WWF realized with the NWO concept. This direction to me reeks despiration in that they are trying to get the media to see them again and give them free publicity, which Vince thinks will lead to the 99 boom all over again. This time around though the media doesn't give a fuck, and even worse you have a core audience of WWE diehards (me included) who are either hitting their last strings or flat out finally giving up on the product. There is little product support anymore, instead fans writing them and TNN and complaining. Bottom line is that it's not 99 anymore and that fanbase left a hell of a long time ago. They've even grown up and don't go for that whole type of product anymore, which is why they aren't watching now and probably haven't watched in a long time. This is why there is little support for this direction from the masses this time around. It's really wild that Vince and his cohorts don't "get it" themselves when the ratings continue to go down and down, and you have only 5000 pay for the last ppv. Not to mention, fans in Nashville last week flat out chanted "refund" during the break after the Katie Vick vignette. Yet what did we get this past week? Don't get me wrong, the show as a whole was an improvement over the past few weeks, but this direction is still there. And with it there, in no time the important thing in elevating talent and coming up with interesting storylines and characters will be overshadowed by this direction. Guest midnight_burn Report post Posted October 30, 2002 Good, here's hoping the ratings continue to drop as long as Raw keeps up with the crap it's showing now.
Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted October 30, 2002 This is good news. McMahon is a stubborn bastard, but he is accountable to his shareholders, and I'm pretty sure a drop in ratings means that they will demand a stop to this crap. This could be the first step towards making Raw watchable, and not in the train-wreck way.
Guest teke184 Report post Posted October 30, 2002 Accountability to shareholders? That's a bit of a joke... That IPO was SO screwed up and one-sided that it's hard to believe that people bought the stock. The McMahons own an obscene amount of the stock and, due to the wording of the common stock issue, are guaranteed to have control of 51% of the shareholder votes no matter HOW many shares they own. (Each of their shares has the right to about 10,000 votes at shareholders meetings and, if sold, converts to common stock... which is worth 1 vote).
Guest GameCop Report post Posted October 30, 2002 Actually, according to the wrestling observer, the raw rating was a 3.4. ha! That's a 0.3 drop from last week.
Guest jester Report post Posted October 30, 2002 So Vinnie, you can have Mr. Stephanie McMahon go on the air and say that you can put on anything you want, and you're absolutely right. But people have these miraculous channel changing devices that allow them to watch whatever they want.
Guest Breetai Report post Posted October 30, 2002 fans in Nashville last week flat out chanted "refund" during the break after the Katie Vick vignette. No shit? Well, all I have to say iss..... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! FUCKING EAT IT VINCE! REAP WHAT YOU HAVE SOWN!!! Now if Smackdown continues to get a 3.7 or higher rating I'll be delireously happy. That would basically prove once and for all that wrestling>sportz entertainment and that good workers>triple-h-uh.
Guest wwF1587 Report post Posted October 30, 2002 ::points and laughs at Vince and RAW:: Although the wrestling sucked... the show was more entertaining than past attempts. But Vince.. Guest deadbeater Report post Posted October 30, 2002 Oh I like how they hyped the non-title casket match while they mumbled the three-way women's title match. Heck, they didn't even name Trish's opponents Jacqueline and Molly.
