Torrie b. Dawn Marie (Trick or Treat match)

What in the world is a Trick or Treat match? Anyways, seems like it was a pretty good show.

Latest tidbit: The Edge/Benoit match to open the show was 13 minutes in length, and was "very good" according to Trent on the DVDVR board (who watched the show).

Here's a more detailed report:

- We open with a backstage skit where all the superstars are dressed up. Stephanie, in witch garb. She announces a main event of Brock Lesnar vs. Rey Mysterio.

- Edge defeated Chris Benoit with the help of Kurt Angle.

- Backstage stuff with Benoit looking for Angle. Then we see Paul Heyman and Brock sitting next to each other talking. Paul tells Brock he can’t beat the Big Show.

- Big Show pins Rikishi, then calls out Brock in that lame “I’m not leaving till Brock comes out” bullshit. Brock comes out, they stare each other down, and Big Show leaves, promising to do something to Brock that’s never been done.

- Torrie Wilson beat Dawn Marie in a lame “trick or treat” match involving cakes, pies, and a mud pit. If you look for a guy with a gray hooded sweatshirt and black glasses, that’s me, I was sitting right in front of the pit. Then they show some backstage stuff where Matt Hardy challenges Tajiri for a match.

- Backstage again, with the Guerreros talking to Stephanie McMahon, and then John Cena tells Stephanie that Vince is here.

- Matt Hardy pins Tajiri in an okay match. Then Stephanie goes to meet Vince, who is actually Eric Bischoff in a mask. He says something about Scott Steiner, rips his mask off, and then he and Steph make out. They both appeared to enjoy it.

- Eddie Guerrero pinned Kurt Angle in a really good match. Chris Benoit hit Angle with the belt, then hit both Eddie and Chavo. Benoit rules.

- Rey Mysterio beat Brock Lesnar by disqualification when Big Show came down and literally hurled Rey into the fourth row. Brock and Show brawled afterwards, and I’m not sure what will be on camera and what won’t be, but Show badly screws up a chokeslam through the announce table. Then Brock gets up, poses, and leaves. Apparently Brock will be the face in this feud.

Other Notes

- Throughout the show they played some videos on the tron, most notably the Kid Rock history one, an Edge “My Sacrifice,” two Divas videos (to Lillian Garcia’s song “Shout” and No Doubt’s “Hey Baby”), and an Undertaker video.

- Tazz did a sort of Halloween costume contest, but he did not seem into it at all. Some guy dressed up like Hulk Hogan “won.”

- There were almost twenty empty sections of seats. Van Andel is not that big of an arena. Not a good sign.

- Fans chanted both “Goldberg” and “What” periodically. Also not a good sign from where I sit.

Final Thoughts: The show should come off okay on TV, as long as the Big Show is not on. Man, the guy looked really, really bad. And Brock cannot carry him to a good match at Survivor Series. But Benoit/Edge and Angle/Eddie should both be good and worth watching.

Reports from wrestlingobserver.com state that the attendance was at about 5000 and half to three quarters of the place was blacked off. I'd feel sorry for them, but they brought it on themselves..........

Guest Just call me Dan

Matt wins, Benoit/Edge and Kurt/Ediie, Rey stays strong looking (well he didn't get beat in a squash) and then there is Show. If this feud has to happen, at least it isn't soap opera stuff, they are just building it as an intense rivalry. The one main event feud they book well is the one we DON'T want to see.

finally.. some incest!

man..

they're gonna show that?

If they show it, its technically not incest but theres a strong allusion to it.

I happen to think this is just a joke someone made up.

Then again..

how beautiful would it be if life did imitate art, steph fell for bisch, dumped hhh and bisch became vince's son-in-law with hhh out of a job? that would just make me so happy and restore my faith in the bizarre goodness of the wrestling world. remember bret hart's then-wife after montreal in wrestling with shadows. "what goes around comes around, hunter." heh.

on a more realistic note, if the fans keep chanting goldberg and ratings continue to fall, someone's definitely going to get to write their own check before too long.

PS - Bischoff took the Vince mask off, so there's no incest angle going on here. Just ... Bisch and Steph, which is equally weird.

Guest Smell the ratings!!!

I thought the incest angle was next month?

Here's a question. Anybody think the Brock/Show feud will actually make it to Survivor Series?

Kingpk: was Rey/Brock a real match, or did they just take turns doing moves while looking at the ramp waiting on Show's fat ass?

Well, I wasn't there, so I can't help you.

BTW, it DID happen. From another report

Matt Hardy d. Tajiri. the crowd was partially dead for this match. one of the funniest things I've ever heard was shouted during this match. some girl said, "Tajiri likes boys!"

Vince is in Steph's office. turns out that Bischoff is in a Vince mask. he says that Steiner is coming to Raw, takes off the mask, and kisses Steph.

Here are some more detailed spoilers from 1wrestling:

They opened the show with the Kid Rock “Lonely Road” video package.

The action opened with Ernest “The Cat” Miller coming out to his old WCW music. He lost to Val Venis and the “money shot” finisher.

Next was Shelton Benjamin over Bull Buchanan. Followed by Albert over somebody whose name I didn’t catch but I believe was Larry Destiny from Border City Wrestling.

Moving on, we got tag team action with Jamie Knoble (with Nidia) and Crash Holly losing to the team of Funaki and Billy Kidman. Kidman got the 1-2-3 with the Shooting Star Press.

The Velocity open played and we got Chuck Palumbo (sporting dark hair again) over D-Von.

“Textbook” Tyson Dux (also from Border City Wrestling) put on a very solid comedy match with Chavo Guerrero Jr. Dux got in some decent offense and even managed to work in his always popular “dorky white guy dance” before losing to Chavo.

The Smackdown opener played. Edge defeated Chris Benoit with the spear following interference from Kurt Angle. Huge crowd response for Edge’s entrance.

Backstage we get to see Benoit crash the Halloween party looking for Angle. The Torrie Wilson video package played.

Backstage Paul Heyman tells Brock that he cannot beat the Big Show.

Big Show squashes Rikishi with a powerslam. Show takes the mic and talks and talks and talks. He says that he’ll do to Brock what he just did to Rikishi. He states that Brock cannot beat the Big Show, he cannot beat Paul Wight, and he cannot beat the Giant! The crowd was chanting “boring.”

Brock comes out and calls Show a “giant piece of s***” which the crowd begins to chant. Show threatens Brock some more and walks up the ramp.

An Edge video package aired.

Torrie beats down Dawn Marie in a mud-pool match. Both ladies looked hot in their entrances, but the match was hard to see – outside of the 20 people seated next to the wading pool you could only see the match on the Titantron. Post-match Torrie shoved the ring announcer into the pool.

Backstage Tajiri is fighting off the affections of Mae Young and Moolah. Matt explains that Tajiri is about to get a “mattitude” adjustment. They both come to the ring. Matt gets the win with the Twist of Fate. A huge crowd pop for Matt during his entrance.

Backstage, Steph is called to meet her father in his office. A man in a Vince mask announces that Scott Steiner will be working on Raw. The mask is removed to reveal Eric Bischoff, who proceeds to lay a big old kiss on Steph – who seems to enjoy it. As good as she looked in her Halloween witches costume, I think I’d have done the same thing.

Diva video package airs. This is followed by the music video for Lillian’s new single.

Next up is Angle vs. Eddie Guerrero. A great match, marred by two run-ins. First from Chavo Jr. and then secondly by Benoit. All of the interference allows Eddie to hit the frog splash for the win.

Taz came to the ring and judged the Halloween costumes in the crowd. After some back and forth he declared the “Hogan” dude the winner. The crowd wanted the very hot “Trish” to win.

Backstage Angle smacked somebody around (I couldn’t see the Titantron during this segment – it sounded like he was smacking Brother Love around). Angle then tangles with Benoit.

The main event of the evening was Brock vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. Brock was accompanied to the ring by Paul E. Some good action with Rey getting in some credible looking desperation offence and Brock showing raw power. Big Show ran in. Rey tried to land the 619 on Show. Show caught him and literally threw Rey four rows back into the crowd. Show then beat down Brock. Paul E. left ringside and walked away.

Brock climbed back into the ring, and Show came back down the ramp and into the ring. The bell sounded and apparently we have a match? Brock throws Show out of the ring and Show walks back up the ramp.

Brock posed in the ring for a minute and then proceeded to leave. As he was walking up the ramp, some insane fan apparently thought he wanted a piece of Lesnar and tried to come over the wall. Security grabbed him up before he could get over the wall and carted him off.

Well, that will certainly be interesting to see, if it makes onto the TV edit of Smackdown.

could have been worse

it could have been Kevin Nash dressed as Vince McMahon who was making out with Steph. :D

Man, was that a horrible idea of Russos or what, I can't even remember what the point of all of that was anyway. I was at that Nitro (it was in Minneapolis) and most of us didn't even know who Nash was supposed to be dressed up as until he started talking.

I'm surprised Grand Rapids got such a weak turnout actually. The last event they had there was the Raw that had Rock-Guererro and I think HHH turned on Shawn that night too. Overall that was a good Raw.

Looks like we get one step closer to my prediction of a Stephanie/Vince incest angle happening at some point. It's only a matter of time now.

You know, as much as we all hate her, most people have to admit Steph's not THAT bad looking of a woman.

She's no Molly Holly, but she's by no means ugly at all. Plus, as a female non-wrestler selling the ROck Bottom, People's Elbow, Pedigree, and Fat Samoan Slam...she's got a TINY bit of respect from me.

Crap storylines and dating hunter make me hate her, but still.
