Tom Says No Pobo To Class

Recommended Posts

Guest Ace309

So, my alarm went off at 6:02 AM today, as it always does. (I have it set for 6:02 so that I can hit snooze twice and be out of bed at 6:20, just in time to get up, hit the shower, have a cup of coffee and be out the door at 7:36. I get out the door at 7:36 just in time to catch the train, grab a cup of coffee, get back on the train and get on campus in time for gratuitous schmoozing with my friends before my 10 AM 20th-Century Philosophy class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, or my 9:30 AM Ancient Philosophy class on Tuesday and Thursday.)

And then I kept hitting snooze, over and over again, so that I didn't get out of bed until 7:15 or so.

I didn't get out of the shower until 7:45, and at that point, I realized that I really wasn't feeling it today. Why? Oh, no good reason. We're having completely pointless lectures in both my classes today, and I really don't want to sit through those... and, you know, I love lounging around in warmup pants and a longsleeve T all day while watching daytime TV, spamming the SmartMarks board and playing Diablo II, so mise well occasionally, eh?

And so, therefore, the point of the story is...

+1.

Go to sleep at 3, wake up at 7, either skip or sleep in most classes. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I didn't go to my history lecture today, so I could finish a Politics paper that is complete and utter garbage. Oh well, at least it's 'done'.

Papers are fun. Copy some junk from a website, switch some lines around for 5 minutes, use my thesaurus thing to make long words, and usually end up get good grades.

Welcome to college.

Yeah, I guess I gave this impression by implying that cutting class is threadworthy, but I am in fact a junior. heh

Apparently, the professor posted something on the class WebCT saying that the essay was delayed for 2 weeks, as the bookstore didn't have enough books or something like that. Of course, I didn't see that, spent most of the night working on it, barely slept, and found that out when I got to class.

I'm slightly pissed that I'm exhausted now due to nothing, but I'm glad I got that extension, because what I wrote was truely garbage.

This is, in fact college. Class seems to be optional more often than not. It's not great, because you basically have to do all the work yourself (without teachers, you know, teaching you), but at least you get to get to catch up on all the sleep you miss watching tapes of Family Guy til 4 in the morning.

For most of my classes I had to get up at around 5:00 to get to there at 6:30 am. I don't have to tell you how much getting up that early sucked, but I was never late one day, never missed a day either. Got back from classes at 2:00, took a nap and had the rest of the night for whatever..

What sucked was each trimester we had 1 class which was on a completely different schedule from other classes and it was from 4:30 to 11:30 at night. For those classes I didnt get up until like 3 in the afternoon but I didnt go to bed until like 5 or 6 in the morning sometimes..

My daily routine usually consists of:

Wake up at 7:00 AM.

Walk to school for 8:00 AM class.

Wish I hadn't gone to bed at 1:00 AM.

Classes til Noon.

Go home and goof off until 1:00 AM.

Sleep.

I don't have a class that starts before 9AM, and don't have a class that ends after 4PM. No classes on Friday, and nothing until 3 on Monday.

I think I gots myself a nice little schedule there.

I have a decent schedule. Thursdays kill me, the 3:30 wake up call for radio followed by an 8:00 class. I'm so dead that day.

However, we gotta pick classes for next semester next week. I'm like the last person in the last group to go, so my schedule is going to fuck me in the ass and make me like it. My money is on 8:00 every day, classes I don't wanna take, all kinds of bullshit.

God, I forgot how bad being a frosh sucks ass.

You bunch of slackers...

Anyway, I hardly ever skip class (although I've skipped FOUR~! this week and missed two teacher conferences...damn). Last semester, I had a cool schedule with my classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with Tuesdays and Thursdays off. This year, it sucks, cuz now on Tuesdays and Thursdays I've got a class at 10 am and a second class at 2:30, and because I commute and don't drive up to campus yet, I end up having to wait up there all day.

My schedule isn't that bad:

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays I have one class at 10am, get out at 10:50, go home, make something to eat, and hit work by 12. Work 12-8, which isn't bad considering I sit in front of a computer all day, then have the night to do whatever.

Tuesdays I have class that is supposed to run 11-1:50 (Intro To Education), but my group in that class (we're doing a "school improvement team" project this semester, which is what our grade is based on) is so far ahead of everyone else in the class that the prof. lets us go at like 12:30. Then I'll meet up with my friends, have some lunch at my friends restaurant, and be back at campus for 4, where I have a class until 6:45. After that, I have the night to do whatever I want.

Thursdays I have one class, but it's another one of the dreaded 3 hour courses, running from 10-12:50. Thursdays suck because I'm generally going from school right to work, no opportunity to eat until my break later in the day, and I make it home just in time for Smackdown.

Haven't skipped any classes yet this semester, probably because 3 of my 4 classes only meet one day a week and I don't want to fall behind. I go to community college right now, and go to two different campuses (though one is just for Tuesday's classes only). One campus is located across the street from two malls, a Toys R' Us and a Wal-Mart, and is 2 min. away from a main strip of stores and restaurants as well. The other campus is down the road from the local greyhound racing track, and not too far from another mall, so there's plenty to do when classes get cancelled or I don't feel like going.

Can I ask a question?... Besides that.

What schools are you guys attending? I finally decided to go to a real college, but I don't know anyone that's actually gone to college.. Thusly I don't know what schools are good.

I was thinking of some college in Washington state, but...

Yeah. Thank you for your time.

I skip class a lot, especially this semester. To put it simply, this semester, I'm just not feeling it. The major problem is that I am mentally burnt out. After three years of going to classes and such without much of a vacation, I have zero interest in doing anything more than going through the motions. Oddly, I am doing better this semester than I usually do, thus further validating my lazy, slacker attitude.

Another problem is that my classes this semester deal mostly with essays, so actual tests and stuff which might somehow make the 50 minute lectures useful are practically non-existant. In two classes, it looks like I will have take home final exams, which means I can just get the answers at my leisure if I so desired. It just really eliminates much point to go to class when I am basically going to forget what I learned anyway five mintues later anyway, or just keep it around as useless knowledge.

My schedule is okay. I have classes from 10:30 to 2:30 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday, and one 8:30 class on Tuesday and Thursday. I hate the 8:30 one. I am only taking it because I like this girl in the class. I am not sure I even need it for any real reason, as it will probably be made up by another class I am taking next semester anyway. I only took it because I thought it would deal with Napoleon, instead they basically skimmed over him and dealt with other periods of French history that I neither know nor care about. The other classes are decent. They can keep it partially interested, and I am doing rather well in two of them so that makes any class much easier.

I cannot wait until next semester when I get to take a first year course and a bullshit course because I did my History degree completely backwards, taking the hard courses first and then moving onto the easy ones. Then I will probably graduate and go into the real world. *sigh*

I think I can post where I go to college, since I've thwarted the possible stalkers away...

Currently, I'm at Kutztown University taking Computer Science. I've been to 3 other schools... community colleges in NJ and NY, and a semester at St. Bonaventure.

Monday- 2 classes 8:15-11 am. Two math classes that I skip half the time. Then another class at 12:20-1:35 which is a management course that I rarely can afford to skip. Another math class from 1:45-3 that I rarely attend.

Tuesday- 1 math course from 11-3 that the teacher doesn't give a shit about. He's about to retire and even skips half of the classes. I share his sentiment.

Wednesday, Thursday & Friday- Same as Monday.

Saturday- Work all day Saturday, and whatever weeknights I'm scheduled to work. I also sit in front of a computer like Zack. :)

That's about all until next semester where I start taking the advanced computer courses, and tennis season starts.

I go to the law school at the University of Pennsylvania. I skip lots of classes. My schedule is like this. :)

Tuesday and Thursday: Criminal Procedure 9:00 - 10:20 / Federal Courts 10:30 - 11:45 / Commercial Credit 12:00 - 1:15

Wednesday: Nothing (yay!)

Friday: Everything on Tuesday except Crim Pro.

Ah, University. As an eager first year, I did all my reading before class started, promptly showed up on time for every class, and attentively listened throughout the lecture. That lasted about two weeks and then I lapsed back into the high school pattern of doing everything the night before, showing up most of the time, and getting in some quality naps during lecture. Shockingly, my grades weren't very good (though not very bad either.)

You actually learn a suprising amount if you stay awake and pay attention during lecture though. I actually make sure to get my eight hours now, and bother to do the reading and whatnot, and it totally reflects in your grades. You guys might want to think about trying it out.

Oh, and I attend good ol Simon Fraser University, the best university in Canada. Especially if you like to cheat or are suicidal.

Ah, Simon Fraser ("Not in CIAU, for some reason").

Didn't Daniel Igali come out of SFU?

Yeah, Igali is an SFU guy. It's kind of neat to be able to say that I've walked right past a wrestler at the same level as Kurt Angle. Though I somehow doubt Igali will ever go WWE on us.

As for the CIAU, a lot of our sports teams are now switching over to it, now that the NCAA rejected our asses (I think. It's been a while since they decided to switch from NAIA to CIAU). Go Clan~! Err...well...at least it isn't klan.

He's got a hell of a story, too. Have you heard the bit about his landlord not even knowing he was a world champion until he saw it on the news a week later?

What schools are you guys attending?

Good old University at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York ("AT... University AT Buffalo... yes, we KNOW it doesn't make any sense.")
