Live from Birmingham, AL, it's WWF Armageddon 2000!

Commentators: JR & The King

--- --- ---

Kurt Angle is the WWF Champion heading into the show. After winning the title from The Rock at No Mercy, he narrowly escaped defeat from the Undertaker at Survivor Series, and with some help from Triple H, he retained the title when he defeated Steve Austin on RAW. Commissioner Mick Foley decided that with so many contenders for the title, six of them would step into Hell in a Cell for Armageddon! Meanwhile, Vince McMahon returned from being a "Genetic Jackhammer" as a grumpy, old crank, you can say. He didn't approve of Foley's decisions, mainly the Hell in a Cell match, as he thought that it threatened the careers of six of his best superstars. After trying to reason with several of the guys, he received a Rock Bottom from The Rock, the Last Ride from Undertaker, and a Stunner from Steve Austin. With Vince constantly on the Commissioner's back, Foley vowed that if any of the six superstars were seriously injured, he would resign as Commissioner. Still, Vince promises that Hell in a Cell will not happen.

--- --- ---

We kick off the show with a recap of Heat, as Mick Foley once again guarantees to resign if anyone is seriously injured.

---

Meanwhile, Pat Patterson & Gerald Brisco greet Vince McMahon, who's fresh off of demanding a divorce with Linda, as he arrives in the garage. They tell him that Foley has the Hell in a Cell hanging over the ring. Vince responds by saying, "Not for long."

Opening Six-Person Intergender Elimination Tag Team Match- Hardy Boyz & Lita vs. Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, & Perry Saturn

This is all coming off of Malenko's love for Lita. After pinning her on RAW, according to the stipulations, she had to go on a date with him for Smackdown. As a recap shows, Lita lured him to her hotel room, where the Hardys ambushed him and celebrated with Lita.

Big brawl to start. Malenko corners Lita, but Matt Hardy hits a back suplex to save. The Hardys double-suplex Saturn and then hit a double-flipping slam on Guerrero. Malenko runs into a clothesline. The Radicalz seemingly start to bail, but Jeff takes them out with with a diving plancha! Inside, Saturn takes it to Matt and tags Guerrero, who hits a jumping elbow. Guerrero taunts to much, so Matt tosses him face-first into the turnbuckle. Back suplex and a tag to Jeff, who hits a backdrop. Jeff gets hit by Saturn coming off the ropes, and Guerrero takes over. He places Jeff on the top rope for a super hurricanrana, but Jeff lets him fall to the mat. Malenko & Saturn try and run in, but the referee holds them back. Meanwhile, Lita gives Guerrero a rana, and Jeff follows up with the Swanton Bomb to eliminate Eddie. Saturn comes in and whips him to the corner, but Jeff jumps to the top and hits a corkscrew attack. Everyone comes in. Poetry in Motion on Malenko, but when they try it on Saturn, he catches Jeff and hits a Death Valley Driver to send him packing. Matt sunset flips Saturn for two. Matt goes off the ropes, but Terri holds his leg, allowing Saturn to superkick him. Twist of Fate countered into a Tiger Supex for two. Matt counters a headscissors into a slam. He hits the second rope leg drop, but Malenko breaks up the cover. Matt backdrops him outside and eliminates Saturn with a Twist of Fate. Terri comes into the ring and slaps Matt, so Lita tackles her, forcing her out. Lita & Matt stand tall in the ring, but suddenly, Malenko runs back in, bumps Lita out, and rolls Matt up to eliminate him. It's down to Malenko and Lita. Lita catches a kick, but Malenko ducks a punch. She hits a spinning headscissors and gets a victory roll for two. She goes up and hits a moonsault onto a standing Malenko for two. DDT, and she goes up again, but Malenko stops her and hits a superplex! He makes the cover, but pulls her shoulder up before the three. He throws her down a few times and hits a backbreaker for two, as he pulls her up again. This time, he locks in the Texas Cloverleaf, and Lita taps out, at 9:17. Decent enough opener. **1/4. Malenko simply tosses her outside, and the Hardys chase him out. Afterwards, Michael Cole catches up to a tired Lita, who claims that she could have beaten him.

Backstage, Lillian Garcia interrupts WWF Champion Kurt Angle's exercises for an interview. He cuts a pretty good promo, but it runs a little long.

Hell in a Cell Moment: Triple H backdrops Mick Foley, as Cactus Jack, through the top of the Cell at No Way Out earlier in the year.

WWF European Championship- William Regal © vs. Hardcore Holly

This is the rematch from Survivor Series, as Alabama native, Hardcore Holly, challenges for the title. Regal gets on the mic beforehand and runs down the Alabama crowd. Holly quickly chases Regal out of the ring, but the champion pulls him out, and they get into a slugfest. Regal tosses him to the floor and they head back in. Holly hits a back suplex for two. He goes upstairs, but Regal catches him with a boot on the way down. He places Holly on the top turnbuckle and hits a superplex for two. Two more covers also get only two. Bow & Arrow submission applied until Regal lets go. Irish whip sequence, and Regal sets up for the double underhook powerbomb. Holly lifts him over his shoulders and slams him for two. Shortarm Clothesline followed by the big dropkick. Vertical suplex into a slam, and Holly goes up top to hit a leg drop for two. Regal catches Holly off the ropes with a slam and goes into the Regal Stretch. Holly easily gets the ropes. They get to their feet, and Hardcore catches him with a big forearm, which was actually loaded weeks prior to the show. The referee checks on Regal. Meanwhile, Raven runs into the ring and hits Holly with the Raven Effect. Regal covers to retain his title, at about 5:00. *3/4. I can't even remember any reason for Raven to jump Holly.

Recap of Smackdown, three days ago. The three heels of Hell in a Cell, Kurt Angle, Triple H, & Rikishi, had seemingly formed an alliance going in. Angle, however, nailed Rikishi with the WWF Title. We come back live, as Kevin Kelly interviews Rikishi backstage. Kelly questions whether Rikishi worries about Triple H turning his back on him.

Chyna vs. Val Venis

Val's still in Right to Censor at this point. As a recap shows, Val Venis & Ivory attack Chyna on RAW. Chyna runs into the aisle to attack both Venis & Ivory on their way down. She tosses him to the steel steps and they head in to officially start the match. Chyna hits him down and pummels him in the corner. Mudhole stomping. She ducks a clothesline and hits a DDT for two. Irish whip sequence, and Val hits two knees to the stomach. Russian Leg Sweep gets two. He tosses her outside, where Ivory stomps away. Back in, Val hits a double underhook suplex for two. Slugfest, and Val hits a scoop slam. Elbow drop misses, and Chyna hits several shots to the face. Backdrop and a swinging neckbreaker get two. Another knee to the stomach by Val, but Chyna still manages a clothesline. Chyna hits a few kicks to the ribs, but she gets caught with a powerslam off the ropes. Val misses the Money Shot, which gets a two count for Chyna. Scoop slam and she goes off the ropes, but Ivory trips her. Chyna goes out and chases her around the ring. She runs in, as does Chyna. Val catches her with a fisherman's suplex to get the win, at 5:05. Match was a total yawner. 1/2*. Chyna goes after Ivory after the bell, but Val Venis saves and hits a blue thunder powerbomb. All this would actually lead to the Chyna Neck Injury angle, which would finally culminate at WrestleMania X-Seven.

Hell in a Cell Moment: Cactus Jack lights a barbed wire 2x4 on fire on top of the cell and nails Triple H in the face with it. Same match as before, but they should have showed this first.

---

Backstage, Stephanie pleads with Vince to stop the match, as she doesn't want to see Triple H in pain afterwards. Vince leaves, saying that he'll put a stop to it, right now.

---

We cut to an interview recorded earlier in the day, as Kevin Kelly interviews the Undertaker inside the ring which is surrounded by the Cell. The arena is totally empty. He runs down his Hell in a Cell matches, with highlights from the match with Shawn Michaels & Mick Foley.

---

Vince McMahon, Pat Patterson, & Gerald Brisco make their way to the ring. Vince gets on the mic and claims that he meant every single word that he said to his wife Linda on Smackdown. He calls himself a concerned, compassionate humanitarian. He tries to get the fans behind him in order to prevent Commissioner Foley from going through with Hell in a Cell. We get a five-second moment of silence, and he orders people who will join him to stand up. Before leaving, he warns the people of the results of tonight's match not only being on Foley's conscience, but their's as well.

---

Video package for Chris Jericho-Kane Last Man Standing Match. It's the coffee feud, part II. If you recall, it all started when Jericho accidentally spilled coffee on Kane. They feud up to Survivor Series, where Kane defeats Jericho. They continue to feud, and Foley puts the match under Last Man Standing Rules.

---

Last Man Standing- Kane vs. Chris Jericho

Twenty minutes later, we finally have our next match! Kane attacks Jericho on his way down. They immediately take it backstage. Kane throws a metal crate, but Jericho avoids it. Kane still tosses him toward a table, but misses a shot with a shovel. Jericho makes a comeback, as they fight back to the ringside area. Kane regains control in the aisle, but Jericho goes over his shoulder and tosses him to the ringpost and steel steps. Inside the ring, Jericho hits a reverse elbow off the top and starts pummeling away. Clothesline sends both guys out. Kane clutches him and drives Jericho's spine to the ringpost. Powerslam follows up, as the referee starts the 10-count. He gets to five before Jericho gets up. Kane tosses him to the steps. Back inside, Kane hits a backbreaker and hits several shoulder thrusts in the corner. Shots to the head follow. Kane hits a big hip toss and begins to hang Jericho by the back of his head. The referee counts seven, and Kane is immediately back on him. Kane catches a spinning heel kick and simply drops him to the mat. Jericho still hits a jumping reverse elbow. Lionsault meets Kane's knees. He goes up top and hits the flying lariat, which gets only six. Three shots send Jericho back to the mat, as the referee counts five. Jericho gets up and flips Kane off! Highlight of the match so far. Kane responds with a big chokeslam, triggering a nine count. Kane heads outside and grabs a chair. He gets a shot to the ribs and back in before dropping it. Tombstone attempt, but Jericho goes over his shoulders, hits a lowblow and a DDT. The referee starts to count both out, now. Both are up at about six. Jericho clobbers him with a chairshot, getting only six. Irish whip sequence, and Jericho hits a forearm. He goes upstairs and hits a missile dropkick. Bulldog headlock, and he places the chair on Kane's chest to add extra impact for a Lionsault. Jericho is up at seven, and Kane sits up at eight. Big clothesline sents Jericho down. Kane gorilla presses him over the top rope and to the floor. They fight to the entrance set and through the piles of cars which are set up. Kane looks for a chokeslam off of a crate, but Jericho counters it into a bulldog down to a table, which doesn't break. There's a whole set of stacked barrels for the set, so while Kane's down, Jericho manages to push them all over onto him. The referee counts ten, and Jericho is declared the winner, at 17:15. Jericho celebrates to the back as cameras check on the barrel scene. A replay shows Kane's hand popping out just as ten is counted. Match was about **1/2. Very tedious and dull at times.

---

Backstage, the Coach catches up with Lt. Commissioner Debra. Hey! Remember that? I sure didn't until watching this. Coach walks by to find Mick Foley, who says he's responsible for the six guys later. Kane under the barrels may be an omen for later. Nevertheless, the match will happen.

WWF Tag Team Championship- Bull Buchanan & Goodfather © vs. Dudley Boyz vs. Edge & Christian vs. Road Dogg & K-Kwik

As a recap shows, the Dudleys pretended to join Right to Censor, but they really just ended up putting Steven Richards through a table. Bubba says, "If putting people through tables is wrong, then I don't wanna be right!" RTC & Dudleys brawl to start. Buchanan covers D-Von for two. Big Boot, and a tag to Goodfather. He hits the Ho-Train. He tries it on Bubba, but gets clotheslined. D-Von covers for two. D-Von tags out to Road Dogg, and Edge tags himself in to face Road Dogg. Edge & Christian taunt Bubba, so he comes in. Edge & Christian each Irish whip Road Dogg & Bubba off the ropes, but they both duck clotheslines and go into Shake Rattle 'n Roll jabs, only to nail each other! Funny spot. "We Want Tables" chant, as Road Dogg tags out to K-Kwik. Double elbow drop on Edge. Kwik jumps over a charging Edge and does a cartwheel. Big heel kick, but Edge comes back and tags in Christian. Edge quickly tags back in after some double-teaming, and hits an armbar takedown for two. Goodfather tags himself in to pound Kwik to the mat. Tag to Buchanan, who drops Kwik to the mat while in a hammerlock. Edge tags himself in to once again continue punishing Kwik, just like everyone else. Kwik comes back with a neckbreaker. He almost reaches Road Dogg for the tag, but Christian runs over and pulls him down to the floor. Edge pulls Kwik back, only to get the tag to Bubba Ray, who cleans house. Backdrop on Christian, and sidewalk slam on Edge. Everyone comes in, as Goodfather & Buchanan get tossed out. K-Kwik goes for a plancha, but Goodfather catches him for a shoulderbreaker. Road Dogg comes out for the save, but Steven Richards hits the Steven Kick. Inside, the Dudleys hit Edge with the Whassup Headbutt, and Bubba orders D-Von to get the tables. Buchanan & Goodfather try and stop them, but the Dudleys throw it back to their faces. They go back in and hit the Dudley Device on Edge for two, as Christian saves. 3D on Buchanan, and Goodfather comes in to get 3Ded, also. Whassup headbutt on Christian, now, and D-Von goes out to retreive tables again. Steven Richards DDTs him onto the table, though. Inside, Edge hits a spear on Bubba for two. Christian hits the Unprettier right after, and Edge covers him to get the win and Tag Team Titles for the fourth time, at 9:27. Match was slow to start, but it picked up a bit in the end. **1/4

Backstage, Stephanie tries to talk Triple H out of going into Hell in a Cell. The Survivor Series forklift incident is brought up, and all I can say is, "Hey Steph, he's standing there, isn't he?"

---

Hell in a Cell Moment: At No Way Out 2000 again, Cactus Jack falls off the side of the cage and through the commentary table.

WWF Intercontinental Championship- "The One" Billy Gunn © vs. Chris Benoit

Grapple to start, but it goes nowhere. Benoit cheapshots him and starts kicking away. Irish whip, and Gunn catches him with a drop toehold. Hip toss gets two. Gunn tosses him over the top rope and to the outside. He follows and throws him face-first to the post. Gunn misses a charge and pays the price by crashing into the steel steps. Back inside, Benoit starts to work the knee, and he slams him onto the mat. Scoop slam attempt, but Gunn goes over into a sunset flip for two. Benoit hits a dropkick to the knees for two. Dragon Screw into the figure four. After a minute or so, Gunn turns it around to put the pressure on Benoit, but he gets to the ropes. Slugfest, which Gunn wins. He misses a jumping splash to the corner, and Benoit takes advantage to hit three consecutive German Suplexes! He goes upstairs but misses the Diving Headbutt, as Gunn slides out of the way. Right hands into a whip, and Gunn powerslams him for two. Whip to the corner into a gorilla press. Jackhammer, and he manages to hit the Fame-Asser, but Benoit kicks out. Gunn is trying to sell the knee here. Gunn goes for a sleeper, but Benoit easily reverses into the Crippler Crossface. Gunn just barely gets his foot on the ropes. Tilt-a-whirl slam attempt by Gunn, but like JR says, his knee buckled down. That, or he screwed up. Benoit catches him with a boot in the corner for two. Back suplex gets two. Gunn surprises him with a small package for two, but Benoit quickly reverses into the Crippler Crossface! Gunn taps out at 10:03, giving Benoit the Intercontinental title for the third time, I believe. Match was about **

We cut to a taped interview earlier in the day, as JR talks to Steve Austin. JR claims that he woke up at 4 AM yesterday thinking of the impact Hell in a Cell had on Mick Foley & Shawn Michaels' careers. Austin says there's no definite way to prepare, but he looks forward to getting Triple H & Rikishi. Austin actually has a beard growing, rather than only his goatee.

WWF Women's Championship: Triple Threat Match- Ivory © vs. Molly Holly vs. Trish Stratus

Ivory is still Right to Censor, Molly is pre "fat-ass", and Trish is in T&APA mode here, and oh yeah, she hasn't gained all of her wrestling skills yet. Molly spears Trish and throws her down with a hair whip takeover. Trish monkey flips her our of the corner, and Ivory hits her with a clothesline. They send her off the ropes, but Molly ducks a double-clothesline and hits them both with a dropkick. Cradle on Trish gets two, as Ivory breaks it up. Molly catches Ivory with a backslide for two, when Trish breaks it. Trish & Ivory double-suplex Molly. High five, but Ivory cheapshots her for two. They start arguing, and suddenly, Molly hits a cross body on both from the top rope. Powerbomb on Trish, and Ivory runs over, throws Molly out, and pins Trish to get the win and retain her title, at 1:40. Match was decent enough for a womens match, although very, very short * Afterwards, Test & Albert come down to confront Molly. Crash Holly runs out to make the save. He gets in the ring and challenges them. Suddenly, the real APA make their return and clean house.

Hell in a Cell Moment: At King of the Ring 1998, Undertaker throws Mankind off the top of the cage and through the commentary table below.

---

Backstage, Kevin Kelly interviews The Rock. He promises to whip the other five guys' candy asses to become a six-time WWF Champion.

---

Video package for the main event Hell in a Cell match. As stated in the recap above, Vince McMahon doesn't want Hell in a Cell to happen because he wants to protect his investment. Austin, The Rock, & Undertaker respond with a Stunner, Rock Bottom, & Last Ride. There's a few different issues here. Austin has been feuding with Triple H & Rikishi over Survivor Series 1999's hit & run, not to mention Survivor Series 2000's forklift incident. Kurt Angle has held the WWF Title since No Mercy, and everyone's out to get him, mainly the three faces of Undertaker, Rock, & Austin.

---

WWF Championship: Hell in a Cell- Kurt Angle © vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. The Rock vs. Undertaker vs. Rikishi vs. Triple H

Kurt Angle waits outside the cell while everyone else enters. Austin makes his entrance last and brings Angle inside, where everyone else has already started the match. Triple H comes outside to confront Austin, and they fight around the ring, using the cell as a weapon. Meanwhile, Rock and Rikishi fight outside, and Angle and Undertaker fight inside. Taker hits a cross corner clothesline and hits Kurt down with a right hand. He drapes Angle across the apron and hits an elbow. Rock and Rikishi come in, as Taker and Angle go out. Rock hits a diving clothesline to hit Rikishi outside. Meanwhile, Angle stomps away at Taker. HHH and Austin finally take it inside. HHH hits a facebuster, but Austin comes back with the Lou Thesz Press and elbow for two. He chokes him on the ropes and leaps onto him for two. Angle sneaks inside and goes after a fallen Rock. HHH hits a jumping knee on Austin and brings him to the ring post to work his knees. Inside, Rock hits Angle with a Samoan Drop for two. Kurt comes back with a back elbow, but Taker pulls him out. Inside, Taker again throws him out. HHH vertical suplexes Austin on the mats outside, and Rikishi pummels Rock near the steel steps before throwing him to the cage. Angle targets Rikishi and bashes his head into the steps. Meanwhile, Austin stomps a mudhole on HHH outside. He starts rubbing HHH's face against the cage to bust him open. On the other side of the ring, Rikishi chokes Taker with his boot. Austin continues to rub HHH's face against the cage, this time going all the way around the ring. They head inside, but Rikishi jumps Austin and throws him out. Rikishi helps HHH to his feet and hugs him, but HHH turns his back on him with a Pedigree! HHH covers, but Rock breaks it up and hits a big DDT for two, as Angle breaks it. Angle Slam gets two, as Austin saves. Stunner on Angle, but Taker breaks the pin. Hmm, anyone else seeing a pattern here? Taker chokeslams Austin, but HHH breaks it and pulls Taker outside. Taker launches him to all sides of the cage. He places him over his shoulder and rams his face right into the cage, just like Shawn Michaels at Badd Blood. Inside, Austin clotheslines Rikishi and hits Taker out of the ring. Taker lands on his feet. Rikishi goes back after Austin, but gets a Thesz Press for his troubles. Suddenly, Vince McMahon and his stooges back a hay truck down the aisle. They attach a chain to the cell door and rip it off. Vince orders them to keep going to tear the entire thing apart. Mick Foley's music hits, and he confronts Vince in the aisle. They start arguing, and before you know it, Foley nails both Patterson & Brisco. Vince is ready to hit him over the head with a cane, but Foley has security escort him out. Back to the match finally, HHH and Austin slowly crawl out the now-open doorway. Austin gets a burst of energy and runs at him with a clothesline. They fight through the entrance set. HHH is on one of the cars, so Austin takes one of the nearby swinging cameras and swings it to hit HHH off and to the floor! Now, Rock, Rikishi, Angle, and Taker join the fray outside the cell, as Austin and HHH fight back down the aisle near the ring. HHH smashes Austin's head right through the truck's window, as everyone else brawls near the entrance set. From the looks of it, Rikishi has smashed Angle's head through another car's window. Rock takes HHH back to the entrance's car lot, and they fight up and over them. HHH counters a Rock Bottom on top of the car with a lowblow and hits the Pedigree! Meanwhile, Taker is pummeling anyone in site. Austin is back and he nails Rikishi with one of those barrels. Taker slams Angle right on the hood of a car. Austin takes HHH down and catapults him right to the windshield of a car! He swings with the barrel, but HHH moves out of the way. Taker and Angle fight all the way around the cell and to the commentary table area. He chokes the champion and continues the assault with right hands. Angle takes control and hits him over the head with a vicious chairshot! Just about everyone is busted open now. HHH, trying to escape Austin, starts to climb the cell, and Austin follows. Austin surprises HHH on top by coming from the opposite side, and they exchange blows, with HHH teasing a big bump. Meanwhile, Angle is trying to escape Taker, so he climbs up. Taker follows, while Austin Stuns HHH. Austin goes after Angle as soon as he makes it to the to. Taker rams Angle into the steel support beams. HHH hits Austin with a lowblow and climbs down to the floor. Austin also goes down, and now, Rikishi starts to climb the cell, with The Rock right behind him. Taker, from the top, receives a steel chair after threatening the timekeeper. He hits Taker right over the head, but Rikishi steals the chair and assaults both Taker and Angle with it. Looks like Rock had second thoughts about going up top, because he's nowhere in sight. Angle finally escapes the top of the cell, leaving Taker and Rikishi. Taker fires back with right hands, forcing him to the edge. Rikishi hits him down with three headbutts, but Taker makes the comeback and has him realing. Finally, he clutches the big man's throat and pushes him off the cell and into the back of the hay truck! Consider that YOUR big HIAC bump for tonight. Austin, Rock, and everyone else look on, still wearing the crimson masks. After a few replays of Rikishi's fall, Austin and Rock engage in an epic staredown and go into a slugfest! Stunner countered into a spinebuster. Rock sets up for the People's Elbow, but HHH jumps him before he can move. Rock and HHH exchange blows. HHH gets hit outside. Angle comes in, but gets Rock Bottomed for two, as Austin breaks the pin. Stunner on Rock, but HHH comes in to prevent a cover. Austin still hits a neckbreaker, but in the meantime, Angle crawls over to get the cover on Rock to retain his title, at 32:20. Everyone is down, busted open. Taker is, I guess down, on top of the cell, and of course, Rikishi is in the back of the truck. A bloody Kurt Angle gets to his feet to celebrate for a second, but Austin quickly gets up and hits a Stunner to regain his heat. Match was about ***3/4. It was very hard to follow at times, with cameras trying to focus on so much at once, with the different combinations of brawls and the Vince McMahon/Foley confrontation. The PPV goes off the air with everyone down on the mat.

--- --- --- --- --- ---

--- --- --- --- --- ---

And so ends WWF Armageddon 2000. This is a mixed bag of a show if I've ever seen one. On one hand, there's really nothing bad, but then there's nothing great either. Everything is decent, but in the long run, it doesn't have any real historical significance. Much of the show is spent hyping Hell in a Cell, with the moments and constant interviews. To end the show, the Hell in a Cell match didn't exactly live up to everything most people wanted, but nevertheless, it was a good match.

I'd like to mention I was there live, about six rows back and to the right of the B-Ham Bolts.

Arena was nowhere near sold-out. An OK show.
