Guest Paranoid Report post Posted November 2, 2002 It's quite simple really. I don't like guys coming in and just being themselves. "Coming to the ring, weighing it at 225 pounds, Joe Shmoe!!!" for example. I'm tired of all these "real" guys coming in. I say, don't bring them in til you have a persona/gimmick attached to them...then bring them in like Mysterio, Kane, etc. Build them up over a couple of weeks. With that kind of buildup it will certainly take OVW stars another 6 months to get to that caliber but promoting the hell out of them and having them debut on velocity or heat will also bring up ratings for those shows, even if for just that night. See, I'm trying to kill two birds with one stone. I will admit, they brought in Brock Lesnar properly, and even though they used his real name, they had a gimmick for him as he came in. They gave him Heyman to be the mouthpiece early on and let hisphysicality do the talking. Batista was brought in with a gimmick as well, albiet a s*** ty one, but still, he's been repackaged and now will likely be another "monster." More guys need to be brough in like that imo. That's why I don't like to watch heat or velocity much. I hate seeing guys I don't know just suddenly come down to the ring. They don't talk or anything. They just come down, get squashed in a match and leave. No gimmick, no angles, nothing. I don't like that. There's a reason I rarely tune into velocity and almost never tune into heat. The only thing that gets me watching velocity is cruiserweights. Heat...I haven't watched heat since D'lo stopped announcing(it's coincidence, trust me). Anyhow, I would just like to see more guys come in with a gimmick. I know a good gimmick is always an extension of oneself, but damn...I don't want them to totally be themselves. That's not entertaining.
Guest deadbeater Report post Posted November 2, 2002 Nah. Bring them up like they did Brock. That's all.
Guest DARRYLXWF Report post Posted November 2, 2002 Vignettes would look too cheesy these days, with a few exceptions. I always thought it would be cool to bring in a wrestler in form as an announcer, who would get in everyone's face furing interviews, belch out sarcastic and cynical comments and just act like a plain asshole. But yeah, buildup does help I guess, but you need to deliver a good wrestler with it.
Guest Brian Report post Posted November 2, 2002 I dug the old Tazz and Jericho ones.
Guest The Hamburglar Report post Posted November 2, 2002 I like the Randy Orton stuff they're doing right now. Hopefully he'll be able to pull the whole thing off.
Guest Ace309 Report post Posted November 2, 2002 ... sometimes I wonder if people lurk at all. This opinion is, after all, the general consensus of the board.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted November 2, 2002 Randy Ortan is boring in the ring, but get pushed as if he is the Messiah from Oklahoma, while a good performer like Shelton Benjamin gets put on the shelf for no reason. If they repackage Shelton I hope they bring him back in with Ernest Miller as his manager or tag team partner. The educated feet of these 2 wrestlers could cause some havoc on HEAT then slow build up to RAW as possible tag team contenders. Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted November 2, 2002 they need to do more with Jamie Noble he is the cruiserweight champ and all, but he got no viable Contenders, hell Rey is still messing around with the heavyweights, He might get the World title before the Cruiserweight because they bought his name and NOT his cruiserweight skills. BLAH stupid shit.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted November 2, 2002 If there's one gimmick I can't stand it's "22 year old Maven Cena-Orton, living his dream as a pro wrestling superstar". Remember when Taker was whipping the piss out of Maven all the time? I was rooting for TAKER. That's like rooting for Nazis. Yes, build would help new guys, any build at all. These Bautista videos may be fagtacular, but the're certainly better than "who the hell is this guy? Oh it's, David Bautista, a rookie who is working his way up the WWE ladder" 5 minutes before he loses on Metal to Stevie Richards.
Guest ShooterJay Report post Posted November 2, 2002 Orton was fine, he was brought in that way because they knew he wasn't an "immediate impact" player. The Rocky 2.0 thing actually isn't failing though, which is surprising. Kudos. They blew it big time with Cena though. They took away the cool Prototype heel gimmick, and made him look and act EXACTLY like Orton. They even wore the same ring attire. He should be taken off TV for 4-5 months and repackaged like Batista, and reintroduced as the Prototype.
