Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted November 2, 2002 Credit: CBS Sportsline Setting a new standard for self-abuse in sports, a soccer team in Madagascar lost 149-0 Friday after scoring one own-goal after another to protest a refereeing decision, according to broadcast reports. After Stade Olympique l'Emyrne's coach, Ratsimandresy Ratsarazaka, got into it with the ref in the national league match at AS Adema's home field in Toamasina, SOE began kicking the ball toward its goal after each kickoff, Radio Madagascar reported. Adema's players simply looked on in bewilderment while their opponent self-destructed by scoring against itself 149 times. Radio Madagascar said the score represented a world record for a top-class match. SOE was last year's league champion. Adema clinched this year's title last weekend. Guest midnight_burn Report post Posted November 2, 2002 I always thought a soccer team should do that, and it looks like someone finally did. 149-0, very impressive.

Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted November 2, 2002 Seeing how this was in Africa, I'm surprised they didn't kill the ref or something...
Guest starvenger Report post Posted November 2, 2002 Who kept giving him the ball back? Why didn't anyone, you know, STOP HIM? Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge Well, the team that's scored upon gets the ball on kickoff, so in essence the other team never got a chance to touch the ball. And I'm with Kahran - I thought that it was Canada's soccer team as well.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted November 3, 2002 Apparently the whole team was in on it. Otherwise, I'm sure someone would have tackled him. Anyway, could you see this happening an any other sport? Would Kobe Bryant be like, "Fuck you, that wasn't a foul!" and then go dunk it in his own hoop?
Guest Phr33k Report post Posted November 3, 2002 Canadian soccer isn't THAT bad... at least, the women's team isn't.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted November 3, 2002 Canadian soccer isn't THAT bad... at least, the women's team isn't. The men's team has only made the World Cup once, and they lost every game without scoring a single goal.

Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted November 4, 2002 I'm not seeing the logic here. They're saying "fuck you" to the refs by losing the game intentionally? Que? It's funny...but mainly because it's colossally stupid.

It's funny...but mainly because it's colossally stupid. I suppose that they felt that they could do it since the title had been decided and maybe the game didn't count for anything in the standings. Other than that, I can't see any real logic behind this.
