Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted November 2, 2002 Ok, so in the past few days, I've read Dark Knight Returns, No Man's Land, Long Halloween, and Tower of Babel, all for the first time. Needless to say, I need more Batman. So here's the thing, I stopped reading Bats right when No Man's Land started, what has happened with/to him since? (ps: I already read the Murderer/Fugitive, so I know about that already) (double ps: did you know Murderer is out in Graphic Novel form already?) Sassquatch, if I don't get a 3 page reply from you, I'll be very dissapointed.
Guest Danny Report post Posted November 2, 2002 I never really liked Batman cause he had no super powers. He was just a guy in a costume that fought evil.

Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted November 2, 2002 The Jim Lee era of Batman, starting with this months #608 is supposed to be really good. It's the start of a 12 part saga, and I liked what I've seen so far. I've also been reading Gotham Knights lately for the whole (SPOILER)..... Bane is supposedly Batman's brother storyline. Guest cynicalprofit Report post Posted November 2, 2002 Id recommend the Knightfall series because it shows Batman being broken, which most of his villians dont really do. Be warned the ending, and subsequent replacement of Batman suck. You need to get the Killing Joke, more of a Joker story really, but it shows just how deep their relationship is. Theres also a few legit books about the history of batman, most of the ones I've read are good. Dude, Batman is one of the best, if not, the best comicbook characters ever. He's a huamn who trained himself to be the mortal equivalent of Superman, he can stand toe-to-toe with just about any DC villian, hes got brains that he backs up with his brawn, and he's so good at what he does and who he is, that Superman gave him a Krytonite ring, just in case something happened and Batman needed to stop him, if Superman thinks you can take him it, you're damn well doing something right. Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted November 2, 2002 It's not a definite. Bane requested Batman's help, to the shock/disgust of the rest of the "Bat-family" (Robin, Nightwing, etc.). Bane promised to show Batman something he needed to know should he help him. It wound up being a picture of Thomas Wayne with (supposedly) Bane's mother. The scenario is definetly a wtf? moment, but I'm interested in seeing the "bigger picture" (obviously Bane will NOT be Batman's brother), because this will add to the obsession Bane has with Batman. And that's only in Gotham Knights. The regular Batman book is going to do really well with Jim Lee at the helm, IMO.

Well, the'd better be some mindgames, otherwise you'll see the ratings go down faster than an "aspiring actress" at an audition...
Guest HellSpawn Report post Posted November 3, 2002 I never really liked Batman cause he had no super powers. He was just a guy in a costume that fought evil. What are Booker T's Phrase... Tell me he didnt say that, please tell me he DIDNT SAY THAT !!! Mon ami, this "guy in costume" has beaten... SUPERMAN, on Dark Knight Returns. Fight to a draw vs SPAWN, a being with hellish powers. Beat 4, again, 4 MARTIANS while almost the whole JLA was beaten and almost killed, Batman save the JLA's a$$ And "thanks" to his archives, Ra's al Ghul beat the JLA, so, that means Batman knows how can beat Superman, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Flash, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter... Can you please tell me if Im wrong but, Martian, Super. Wonder W, Flash, GL arent maybe the toughtest heroes on DCU? And is just a "guy in costume" ??? Btw, is not a flame, its just a comment, dont feel bad mon ami.
Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted November 3, 2002 Well Hellspawn, since Danny is no longer with us, I think it's fair to say whatever you want to him. FLAME ON~!
Guest HellSpawn Report post Posted November 4, 2002 OK Sass, I just dont want to be a bully with Danny, I mean, if he cant see the greatness of BATMAN, well, he rightfully can share his opinion, he is WRONG but hey, its his right. J/K Oh, and Sass, Smell the ratings is still waiting for your 3 pages long reply....

He may not have the physical power to take them down....but he's smart enough to beat pretty much anyone. Anyone. The very fact that he had plans to take down the JLA if need be is just soooooo cool. Guest Big McLargeHuge Report post Posted November 4, 2002 That's a big part of why I don't like the character. He's too good.
Guest Pop Culture God Report post Posted November 4, 2002 Can you imagine if Batman fought Dr. Doom? These guys have contingency plans that have contingency plans.
Guest HellSpawn Report post Posted November 4, 2002 That's a big part of why I don't like the character. He's too good. But he also have weakness. Have you read Knightfall? Or... A death in the family. He still now had.....whats the word... "a monkey on his back", about both... picking Jason as Robin and picking Jean Paul as Batman over Dick. Alfred quit on KnightQuest because he (Alfred) was angry about Batman's "overfocus" even against his own health. Or, if you read Venom, you will know how human Batman is... believe me Venom is one Tough SOB story about Batman Oh and also for what I read here n there, their own "pals" on JLA became angry with Bats after "Tower..." or his own "family" after the whole Fugitive/Murderer story, believe Bats is a great great written character. Guest Big McLargeHuge Report post Posted November 5, 2002 I'm wondering why you have an avatar of a character you don't like, Big McLargehuge it's not that I completely dislike the character. That's just a part that irks me about him. And the pic is awesome. Don't take that away from me.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted November 5, 2002 I'd recommend The Killing Joke, Batman: Year One, the Black & White collection, and Arkham Asylum, as they're all standalone books which don't really affect the current storylines and can be read without knowing what's going on right now. I never was the biggest fan of the Venom story, though, I just didn't buy that Bats would ever start doing the drug in the first place.
Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted November 6, 2002 I never did understand why Bat fans liked the Black & White mini series' that have been put out. Someone care to explain to me why those books are great?
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted November 6, 2002 I've only read the first one, but it had several great stories. I don't remember their names, but the one about the kid who planned to kill Batman and the one where Bats, Joker, et al are just actors and you watch them chat with each other while they put together the comic. Those were my two favorites, but there were several others that I thought were pretty good as well.
Guest Crucifixio Jones Report post Posted November 9, 2002 The GOTHIC storyline from the Legends of the Dark Knight comic sorta r0xx0r'd. I just finished reading "Dark Victory" and that was cool, too. You must read The Long Hallowe'en before reading Dark Victory however, or you'll nearly be lost. Guest Mattdotcom Report post Posted November 9, 2002 May contain SPOILERS for B#608... Having just found a copy of Batman #608 (took long enough, eh?), I am loving it, especially the way Bats takes out the four thugs in two pages with a rather meticulously and well-thought out battle plan. It sounded like they were taking Croc in a new direction, so I'm hoping something will come of that. One complaint: Ivy basically echoes her line from The Long Halloween. I laughed it off as a cute reference, but it still struck a chord in me, and I'm never anal retentive. Dtill, I loved it. Now when's 609 out?
