Guest IB2BLACK Report post Posted November 3, 2002 Do you think Rey will ever compete for the cruiserweight championship? Since he's been in the WWE, he hasn't even encountered Knoble. Or is he to "big" for the division?
Guest OSIcon Report post Posted November 3, 2002 I doubt he will ever be a full-fledged member of the cruiserweight division. Maybe when they need something for him to do he will the win belt (kind of like Chyna winning the woman's title). But at this stage I seriously doubt they will put him in the cruiserweight division as it would be seen as a "demotion" in the eyes of some. That's why despite what wrestlers the WWE brings in for the division, the cruiserweight division will never be as good as it could be. It is treated as a secondary division where when wrestlers are really over, they can "move up" to the heavyweights like Rey did. In order for it to be fully sucessful, all cruiserweights should compete in the division exclusively, regardless of weather or not they are "over enough" to be with the heavyweights. Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted November 3, 2002 Nah...there is no point strictly using the cruisers as Curtain Jerkers like WCW did. Sure, it made for a good division, but it also did not help them build up new stars...they had a guy like Chris Jericho, who was beyond awesome as a cruiser heel, and then did nothing with him. Possibly because of the stigma associated with being a cruiser. I like how they're using Rey now, it's the way a wrestler should be used, ie if they are over then give them a damn push. Besides, WWE will never be high on a strict cruiser division...they never have been and probably never will. Vince likes dem big guys, remember?

Guest IB2BLACK Report post Posted November 3, 2002 Just imagine you was Rey, would you want to compete against Tajiri, & Knoble. Or have some great matches with Angle, Benoit, and Lesnar? Even though he won't win. Dilemna.

Guest OSIcon Report post Posted November 3, 2002 Nah...there is no point strictly using the cruisers as Curtain Jerkers like WCW did. That's part of the problem. The mentality that the cruiserweight division has to be used as a curtain-jerking division. It is all how they are presented. Having cruiserweights occasionally fight and lose to heavyweights makes the division look second rate. However, keeping them as one group, giving them the second to last match on cards, and hammering home the point that the cruiserweights are as good as their heavyweight counterparts (just smaller) would take them away from the curtain jerking stigma they currently have. Of course that maybe too late for WWE to do because the cruiserweight division there has been presented as second rate for so long. TNA has been able to do it though. And all they had to do was keep the X-Division guys separate from the heavyweights, give them main events, and constantly put them over. And when they DO face heavyweights, they are put on the same level or higher. Cruiserweights in their own division CAN work and get over as more then a group of "curtain jerkers" if presented right.
