Overrated albums

I've experienced a little retroactive dislike for Pinkerton, due to all the awful, awful emo bands it has since influenced. Still, I like it, and yes, it is the best of the bunch, but my mind boggles at all these people that get a woody every time they hear the opening piano of "Across the Sea."

BUT if we're gonna talk Guns N' Roses...well...they rule hands down

Yep, so im obsessed...

Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion I & II are excellent, but even as a Guns N'Roses fan, I'll admit that i didnt like The Spaghetti Incident? I was very much let down by it.

Pinkerton is brilliance. :)

And Nevermind by Nirvana would be my pick for the question.

Two picks:

The Clash - Sandinista: The opinion on this album has slowing been changing over time to that it was a misunderstood classic, and would have been better served in an era of CD's rather than albums, where you could organize the tracks in the order you wanted, or just listen to bits at a time more easily. I stand by my initial assessment, which is there are 10, maybe 11 good songs on the whole three album set. Could have had one strong album, instead they released a clusterfuck of a triple album. Critics had this one right the first time around, revisionism due to music critics hedging their bets is giving this album more props than it deserves.

Disintegration - The Cure: When this album first came out, I loved it. It has not aged all that well. It really doesn't tread any new ground at all, it is going over the same ground that 'Pornography' and 'Faith' did, just with much bigger production. It achieved its goal, and got The Cure out in the mainstream to a degree, but its overrated.

Alright, a third one:

Zen Arcade - Husker Du: Its a good album. Thats all. I can listen to it all the way through. Its no classic though. Save that title for 'New Day Rising'. 'Zen Arcade', however, is usually touted as a must-own album. Nah, you could get by just by downloading about a third of it.

i WANT to call tool overrated cos i'm always trying to be the 'different' asshole, but i just can't.

I think the first SOAD album showcases Serj's vocal skills a lot more, as well as balancing the heavy stuff and more complex rhythms as well. A few songs on toxicity bore the shit out of me now, like psycho. Still a great record, though.

I love REM's 'document' but it's mainly for sentimental reasons, i'll admit that.

I'm not sure where i stand on 'superunknown'. I think overall it's their best record, but the best songs are scattered throughout the others. I love everything sundgarden ever did anyway.

I don't give a shit about Nirvana. Never have, never will. I don't HATE them, but they've just never grabbed me.
