ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2002 OK...recently we've seen Ric Flair pretty much been reduced to being the manager for Triple-H...and it got me to thinking...which wrestlers who have passed their prime recently would make good managers? I have a few choices: Hogan: could be the return of the face manager. If he didn't out-shine his protege, I think that Hogan could help build some faces to big stars as their manager. Heck...maybe he could become the manager to Edge. Roddy Piper: In that Piper thread that's on the board...I heard most people say that they respected Piper's interviews more than his matches. Making him a good mouthpiece. I think he could be a great manager on either side...face or heel. Jesse Ventura: If he were to return and not be a commentator, I could easilly see The Body being a mouthpiece to some heel who couldn't talk that well. Jesse is a good arrogant heel, and as a manager, he could easilly get someone hated. Bret Hart: If he ever recovers good enough to take light bumps, Bret Hart could make a good manager IMO. Remember when he was "injured" with the Hart Foundation and became a mouthpiece for them? He got people to REALLY hate him. Hart could work either as a face or heel manager as well. Anyone else have any ideas on good managers from former wrestlers?

ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2002 "The Largest Manager of All time" Kevin Nash His Mangerial gimmick would be coming down the aisle in a wheelchair, right? I mean, that's the only way he won't risk getting injured going from place to place. ^^
ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2002 For some reason I'd like to see HBK and RVD teamed up. ...I didn't even think about Shawn Michaels for some reason... Yeah, I think he would make a good manager too. And he could help Rob Van Dam by giving him a dose of his charisma
Guest DJ Jeff Report post Posted November 4, 2002 I'd like to see Hogan be the manager of Edge. HBK as the manager of RVD would be pretty cool to see. Hmmmmmmm.....If Nash returns and can't really wrestle, then he too could be the manager of someone, I'm just not too sure who. To be honest, I think that the wrestlers that aren't 100%, or have retired, should become managers. That way, the WWE could still use them in some form. Guest Cataclysm911 Report post Posted November 4, 2002 How about DDP, Dean Malenko & Mr. Perfect? Stick Perfect with someone like Venis. Turn Venis heel and have him still use the Money Shot, but incorporate Perfect spots into his match. Like the floatover snapmare and the Perfectplex. Stick Dean Malenko with some cruiserweight and have him "learn the ropes." Like put the cruiserweight, who would be a face, on a losing streak. Then have Dean "train" him, and turn him heel. Then he wins by cheating and with Malenko interfering all the time. DDP can "pass on" the Diamond Cutter. You have to admit that it was over for a finish. How about pass it to Randy Orton? Then Orton can turn on Page with his own finish.. then join the new Horsemen and the can beat down Page with crutches..

Well...Perfect they would need to re-hire before they could do anything with him, but yeah, I could see that with Val Venis. Course, Val would need to learn how to do Perfect's "Cartwheel Selling" method too. Malenko...the only problem I could see with him is that he's not that great of a mouthpiece. Then again, that never hurt Mr. Fuji when he was a manager. DDP started his career as a manager, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to return him to that role. He sorta played that with Christian too.

Guest notJames Report post Posted November 4, 2002 It seems to me that a manager should give his charge a boost in the character aspect, but not overshadow him. To that end, guys like Hogan and Nash would be horrible choices. There's nary a limelight that they wouldn't steal, deliberately or not. HBK is also a bad choice, especially with RVD. He overtakes the spotlight from anyone in his vicinity, and at this juncture in his career, RVD needs as much positive exposure as the Powers tHHHat Be will allow. His star power has dwindled with each and every booking misstep, and liking him up with HBK would just take away from his lone wolf, "I'm just better than you" persona. Even pairing the two up for the sole purpose of establishing a jealousy feud wouldn't work. RVD is too much of a face to go the heel route now. And HBK has built up his crippled sympathy face heat to attempt yet another "cool heel" turn. Any program with HBK at this point is a career killer. His ego overshadows all. That's why Heyman is perfect for Lesnar. He's been doing the bulk of the talking, but always knows when to step back and let Lesnar shine. His superlative managerial work is more evident now that Lesnar's doing more and more talking and becoming more and more independent. With that in mind, I'd like to see someone like Ron Simmons paired up with a real up-and-comer, not D-Von. He can play up the fact that he's a former World and multi-time tag champ, is adequate on the mic when given the right material, and can both dole out and take abuse outside the ring. Guest justcoz Report post Posted November 4, 2002 Well the two guys that could have been their next Lou Albano and Grand Wizard, Joel Gertner and Sinister Minister, are on NWA TNA because the concept of a manager is still completely overlooked by WWE, despite the element that Heyman has added to Lesnar's push. Then there was Mike Sanders who could have been a tremendous manager and also had a mind for the business but apparently nobody in the office saw anything valuable there. Arn Anderson, even without a Horseman tie in, would be a good manager but not in the classic sense of a Heenan, Cornette, Hart, etc. How about Kevin Kelly? I could see him doing well for some reason. So let's see here. Jake Roberts would have been an awesome manager if he wasn't somewhere smoking crack. Roddy Piper would also be a good manager if he wasn't a total delusional basket case. I could see Scott Hall being a good manager when he was older, maybe with less complications out of the ring.

Guest Banky Report post Posted November 4, 2002 Malenko isn't bad on the mic by any stretch of the imagination, he just never choose to go in that direction. His fued with lita was quite entertaining. If anything, one could critisize the sound of his voice, but definatly not his ability to further an angle. I'd put Malenko with Noble. Get him out oft hat lame trailor trash gimmick, and allow him to wrestle. I'd even put Malenko with Benoit. They've always been a great combo together, and could be heels in the true essense of the sense. If they need Malenko to wrestle, he could do it. It would definatly be a good fix. Guest Brian Report post Posted November 4, 2002 No. Don't get Knoble out of the trailor gimmick. He's one of the most entertaining characters, he's found a niche, and he's had some of the most development of any of the other guys on the roster. Just let him wrestle.
