According to the Criterion website, the release date is scheduled for January. The love that this film gets astounds me....

Speaking of Criterion, they just released a kick ass 2-disc set of Jim Jarmusch's Down by Law. If only they would do the same for Stranger Than Paradise.

Fear and Loathing is a film you have to watch in one sitting. Whatever sense it maeks it only makes like that

I just glad I read tthe book before I saw the movie. I doubt I would have been able to figure out what was going on otherwise.

I saw Fear and Loathing in one sitting, and I concluded it was the proverbial sound and fury.

Terry Gilliam is a strange bird. He's directed one of my favorite films ever (Brazil) and another film I absolutely love (12 Monkeys). Excluding Holy Grail, everything else ranges from fair (Time Bandits) to mediocre (Fear and Loathing) to incredibly fucking awful (The Fisher King).

Has anyone else ever seen The Adventures of Baron Munchausen? That movie's a fuckin' trip. Another fun Gilliam movie.

I forgot about that. It was alright, but the best part involved Uma Thurman and a clamshell.

Robin Williams was pretty funny in it, too.

Well, that is great new. Good thing i haven't bought the old DVD of it. I just hope it's not one of the expensive Criterion DVDs.

That's one of Gilliam's best films.

Is there any other kind (Chasing Amy and Royal Tennenbaums excluded)

Well a Chasing Amy and Royal Tennenbaums is the kind of Criterion release i'm hoping for.

I've never liked Gilliam all that much. His main characters are usually unpleasant and unlikable, and almost all of his films' endings are real downers. Brazil was one of the most depressing things I've ever seen in my life. That being said, I loved Fear & Loathing, though yeah I was real glad to have read the book first.

As my friend Chris once said: "Fear and Loathing is one of those movies best seen when you are fucked up."

Bah, I got my brother the old DVD of it for his birthday....he just turned 13! Yeah, my brother is 13 and he loves this movie.

It's one of those movies that you either love or hate, I'm one of the few who has a middle ground opinion. The first hour of it was really funny and great but after that I started realizing more and more than nothing was actually going to happen. It's a prototypical **1/2 movie: ***1/2 first hour and a *1/2 second hour.

Have you ever read the book? After reading the book and then watching the movie I can't rate that movie anything less than ***1/2, just because of how similar to the book it is. The performances of Depp and Del Toro were so bang on with Thompson and Gonzo that they really deserved more recognition for this film.
