Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted November 6, 2002 Sigh, I'm going to hate missing seeing the local paper endorse more than 1 or 2 Republican candidates or not endorsing tax-increase referendums. You want to hear something funny? The CDT endorsed Mike Fisher. I was pretty shocked when I read that.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted November 6, 2002 Ah well... surely they'll do a good job... right? Right? Right. Besides, it's not like they have a vasy majority in either the House or Senate. I think the Senate is 51-48, with the solitary independent, and the House is something like 224-211. The Repubs did a good job after taking Congress in 1994, good enough that Bill Clinton ran in 1996 as a chameleon conservative to piggyback their popularity. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted November 6, 2002 It looks voter turnout was higher then usual which is good- i'm so pissed I couldn't vote this year. Good to see repubs getting the senate- with Bush as president hopefully it'll get things done and he can get reelected in 2004
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted November 6, 2002 "You want to hear something funny? The CDT endorsed Mike Fisher. I was pretty shocked when I read that." That doesn't surprise me. Besides the wasteland that is PSU, Centre is a pretty conservate county. I remember the CDT endorising a congressman (Petersen?) years back, and one of their main reasons was because he was pro-life. Barron, voter turnout may have been higher than expected, but don't tell that to the NY Times. (Of course, had Dems won big, Big Media would be saying how this election was a referendum on Bush and that he never had a mandate to govern in the first place)... http://www.nytimes.com/2002/11/06/politics...gns/06ASSE.html Two years after the most bizarre presidential election in American history was decided by the Supreme Court, 14 months after the unspeakable horror of terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, the nation voted in a mood of evident disenchantment and curious disconnection from the political system. And how Bob Unger said he got mostly positive response to his "firing" of Ann Coulter. Color me educated. A couple days after they gave their endorsement, some jackass wrote in a letter to the editor saying he was "appalled" that they would endorse Fisher and not Rendell. He probably got a lot of responses from PSU people who would probably also line up around the block to give rimshots to that judge who said "One nation, under God" was unconstitutional. When I used to live in Sappy Valley, I would drive home from work in the mornings and turn on that abortion of a local talk show "Happy Valley Viewpoint." They would always have people from the CDT on and it was one big farce. This guy called in one time and asked how come the CDT has published stories that get cut off. Instead of answering him honestly -- saying that in the layout process, the editor probably didn't notice articles not completely laid out -- the editor who was on lied (or was just plain stupid) and said something to the effect of "I don't know what you're talking about." God I hated that place. That radio station was a f'n joke, too. I can go off on them as well for days...
Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted November 8, 2002 God I hated that place. That radio station was a f'n joke, too. I can go off on them as well for days... Not familiar with that show. In the mornings I switch between the Bob & Tom show (101.1, nationally syndicated) and Chris and Jim (97.1, local show). Mike Fisher did win Centre County. He got 57% I believe. It was the same story in many of the surrounding counties. Ken Krawchuk came in an embarassing fourth in Centre. Lost to that Green bastard by over 500. I was one of two people to vote for him in my precinct. In fact, in my precinct the voting went like this: Rendell: 84 Fisher: 84 Krawchuk: 2 Morrill: 2 That's right, 172 people from my town voted. That's over 1/4 of the town's population.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted November 8, 2002 I hate my city. Almost every other town voted for Romney or if O'Brien won, it was close. Fall River? Romney - 5,933 (29.1%) O' Brien - 13,649 (67%) Guess Shannon promised them more free public housing (which my city has the most in the state, drawing in all the unemployed slobs and bums on welfare). Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted November 8, 2002 The St.Paul Paper endorsed Coleman for Senate, Pawlenty for Governor, and 4 Republicans for the House not to mention several state held offices. All of their choices won election. The Red Star on the other hand. Endorsed 2 Republicans. Most of their choices lost.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted November 8, 2002 Hey... this might sound like a stupid question, but where can I find election results? All I know about my own election (that I voted in!) is that Gray Davis was re-elected governer. The thing is, California ALWAYS gets dicked by its governors, no matter what their party.
