"Losers" portrayed in movies.....

Recommended Posts

Guest NoCalMike

Does it bug anyone else that loser type guys in movies are always the coolest of characters in movies, because we all know it real life it never pans out that way. Why are we(myself included) so sucked into that "loser" image in movies. Ya know the upper-teen - twenty something age range of people who have no aspirations for college and/or getting a job, yet they seem to be living life just fine still "making it" Suburbia(the movie) comes to mind when I think of this topic. I am not quite sure if I make any sense in this topic, but if you can make out any rhyme or reason to it, go ahead and respond.

It reminds me of the only funny joke in Not Another Teen Movie where all the guys are trying to find the ugliest girl in school. They pass by all the retards and albinos but then get to the girl that'd be pretty if she'd take her glasses off and untie her ponytail and pick her.

In general, people in Hollywood movies never look like people in real life, including the "losers" and "ugly" ones. End of story.

Example,

Jeneane Garafalo is supposed to be the "ugly" girl in The Truth About Cats and Dogs

Garafalo is not "Hollywood Beautiful" but she's better looking than an average woman her age and size.

You see that alot over the last ten years with wrestling characters who are like that are generally faces (Austin, Bikertaker, Raven (well he WAS hugely popular as a heel) Tommy Dreamer, Mick Foley's characters, ect) while guys that strive to be better than what they are (Triple H, classic Flair, Angle, Chris Harvard, Heel Jericho, Shane and Steph McMahon, ect) are considered heels that should be HATED

Maybe its the slacker mentaitly that they try to fantazie that their lives are better than they actually are.

Some other movie examples are Dazed and Confused type of films that really glorify that whole suburban drifter mentailty, ditto with the Animal House style. I mean SENATOR Bluto? Come on! ;)

Just my .02

Steve
