Guest bob_barron Report post Posted November 6, 2002 The last election I voted in was in 1992. I've made sure that I stayed registered the entire time. Ive made a point to know the candidates and issues of my district. I refuse to honor one of these greedy, self important fuckers with my approval. I REFUSE. I choose to show up as part of the percentile of registered voters that didnt vote. That's my voice. It's equally important as anyone else's. You know not every candidate is a self important fucker

The only thing excerpted here I agree with is that politicians are self-important. Of course they are! They're under the impression that they can represent you and help make decisions that affect your lives! As for the other thing you said, your decision to remain silent on election day is only important to newscasters and the pundits on political talk shows, as they ponder the source of apathy in the American public. Outside of that, your voice isn't important AT ALL if you don't vote. Politicians don't give a shit about those who aren't going to vote. Why should they? You're not going to do anything about it! By remaining silent, anything you have to say is meaningless.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted November 6, 2002 I'm guessing that was a personal attack aimed at me? Uh, no, you guess wrong. I attend a college with 12,000 undergrads, so I hear plenty of that crap every day walking to class. Onto another post... The last election I voted in was in 1992. If you haven't been able to find one worthwhile person to vote for in 10 years in any sort of election, then I think you might be setting your standards too high. Guest Mad Dog Report post Posted November 6, 2002 The difference of 1 vote: Hitler coming to power in Germany the U.S. national language severl other things I can't remember Coming from someone who was a political science major. If you don't vote you forfeit your right to a voice in this country. No one owes you anything if you don't vote. The minute you start taking your rights for granted is when tyrants start to take over.

Bullshit, one of the great things about this country is that EVERYONE is free to do whatever the hell they want, including abstain from the electoral process. We are indeed owed, we're owed every damn right that the Constitution gives to us.

Guest Mad Dog Report post Posted November 6, 2002 Yeah but politicians owe you nothing if you didn't put them into power. So you'll get ignored if you vote for nobody.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted November 6, 2002 I get ignored anyway. I'm just one guy. What would casting my single vote do to make the politicians of this country sit up and take notice of me? And another smoking ban? Fuck!

The reason I choose not to vote is not apathy. It's the lack of a candidate that I can connect with, agree with, or trust. Im also sick of people's lives being used as fodder for a childish feud between political parties. Outside of that, your voice isn't important AT ALL if you don't vote. Politicians don't give a shit about those who aren't going to vote. Why should they? You're not going to do anything about it! By remaining silent, anything you have to say is meaningless Perhaps if more people refused to pick from the dreck we are presented, more serviceable candidates who actually cared about issues and were willing address them head on rather than from the side and under the table would come to the fore. Most close elections are won by the candidate that was able to bring out the greater amount of non tradional voters. That's why I remain registered, but dont vote. You do realize there are other candidates than just the Democratic and Rebuplican, if you want to make a diffrence there, vote for the thrid, or fourth, or fifth guy on the ballot. Sure its "spitting in the wind" but if more dissatisfied voters did that instead of sitting on their asses complaining, THEN change might happen Steve
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted November 6, 2002 Actually, if enough votes go to a third party they get federal $$$ (talk about a waste of $) and thus have the ability to spread their message. Ralph Nader and the Green Party didn't get the required number (I think it was 5% of the vote nationwide?) and thus the pseudo-hippie word won't be spread. Oh, wait, that's a GOOD thing... Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted November 7, 2002 I've kinda of gotta soft spot in my heart for Old Ralph. He took away votes that would of gone to Gore and might of cost Bush the election.

I'll bite - why is this a waste of money? These smaller parties are the ones who need it the most, as usually their candidates refuse corporate and excessive private funding. Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted November 9, 2002 "I'll bite - why is this a waste of money? I think it's a waste of $$$ because I don't vote third party. I still remember Pat Buchanan radio commercials in 2000. Of course, if I was someone in the Green, Reform or Libertarian Party I wouldn't think it's a waste. I could have worded that previous post better...
