The two first round games are set, Toronto hosts Saskatchewan while Winnipeg is at home to BC.

Predictions and such:

East

I say the Argos beat the Roughriders, if only because they're at home, and have momentum on their side, having won 3 straight. Montreal will likely beat them in the East final at Olympic Stadium, which, if it is anything like last year's Grey Cup, should have an awesome atmosphere to it.

West

The Blue Bombers beats the Lions, I say, and the Eskimos in the West final, too. The Bombers have too much to prove after last year's Grey Cup loss against Calgary.

Grey Cup

If it's the Als and the Bombers, it should be a close game, but I think the Bombers have the edge, in that they have the extra motivation after last year's loss. Also, the Alouettes have proven over and over again that they are not a very good playoff team when it matters. So yeah, Winnipeg in a close game.

And yes, the is REAL football.

Ok, we really don't need this to turn into a CFL bashing thread, es[ecially if you don't have any valid reasons for not liking it.

TC, Grey Cup is in Skydome this year. Olympic Stadium was last year.

In the East it will be the Alouettes.

West I say Eskies to win it.

and Montreal wont win the grey cup this year again...

The Grey Cup is in Edmonton, but the Eastern final is at Olympic Stadium.

Alouettes? What's intimidating about a lark? I'll tear them apart.

okay okay...

they need one in Hamilton...or Toronto

Right now, only Montreal and (for the time being, at least) Ottawa are the only teams from the east who could host a successful Grey Cup. Hamilton and especially Toronto would need to turn things around in a big way.

Khari Jones has been on such a roll and they're on a mission after last year's lost to my beloved Stamps so I think Winnipeg will win it this year. Of course, the last two teams to win it were the worst ones record wise (I think), so Argos winning it all wouldn't surprise me.

The Lions and Stamps were both 8-10 during the regular season, and ended up winning the whole thing for the past 2 years, so that works in the Argos favour, but I don't think they really have what it takes to get past Montreal.

Hey, am I the only American who wishes they would still show the CFL on ESPN 2? I think Candaian football is very exciting.

Posted

If they get past Sask., I'd say the Argos are one Joe Montford knockout hit on Cavillo to get by the Als. Unlikely, but Montreal always chokes around this time of year so I'm trying to figure out how they'll lose this year.

I enjoyed watching CFL too, when I used to get CBC. The bigger field makes the game more enjoyable to watch IMO.

Maybe the pressure of playing in front of 50,000+ people at Olympic Stadium will get to them. That's a big change from the 20,000 people they pull in at Molson Stadium.

I wish they had kept the ESPN 2 coverage...I actually dug when the CFL had the American teams. Don't they only show the Grey Cup now? If at all? I've never been able to get into Arena League, the field is too damn small, I like to see a big field for more exciting plays, much more of a challenge to score. CFL would be a nice alternative.

As far as American coverage goes, I think that the Sunshine Network in Florida shows games, and I've heard that the YES network wanted to pick up games, too.

In the East, I'm picking the Argonauts, and in the West, I'm picking the Lions. So, it will come down to the Argonauts and the Lions for the Grey Cup, which I'm hoping the Lions win it, to keep the Cup in the west.

Actually, if Hamilton were to host it'd have to be somewhere other than Ivor Wynne Stadium, since it's smack dab in the middle of a residential area.

Anyways, in the playdowns, Argos over Roughies and Bombers over Lions.

Semis: Als over Argos, Bombers over Esks

Finals: Als over Bombers

Go Alouettes..

They used to play in Baltimore and they won a Grey Cup there..Too bad you canadians got all defensive about an American team winning the Grey Cup..

To be honest, I'd be offended if it was any team BUT Baltimore. The CFLers were actually a competently-run team, and frankly should have won the year before.

The main bone of contention was that the US teams were not subject to the "import rule", meaning that in theory, the US teams would automatically be better.

Is Mike Pringle still playing? I remember him leading the league in rushing like every year.

Well, Montreal signed Laurence Phillips, and he took over as starting running back of the Als for a little while, then he left the team, and then I think he came back. However, I've fallen out of CFL news loop for the past little while, so someone else would probably be better equipped to answer that question.

Mike Pringle suffered a season ending injury after the second or third week. But yeah, Lawrence Phillips took his spot on opening week.

Oh yeah, I remember that now. It was in the same game that Phillips got hurt in, only Phillips' injury only kept him out for a few games.

Argos - 24

Riders - 14

That's something of a surprise, I guess. The Argos basically dominated in the 2nd half, not giving up any points until a safety as time ran out.
