Guest Cerebus The Aardvark Report post Posted November 6, 2002 Why oh why did you put Diamond Darrell on a poll of greatest guitarists? I heard that Neil Young guy is pretty decent.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted November 6, 2002 on this pole Hendrix other: John Petrucci
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted November 6, 2002 Dimebag Darrell is on the list...but Zakk Wylde? Steve Vai? John Petrucci? JEFF HANNEMAN?! DAVE MUSTAINE?! DO THESE NAMES MEAN ANYTHING TO YOU?! **votes "other"**
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted November 6, 2002 well at least Clapton got mentioned
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted November 6, 2002 This thread should not have had a poll. My vote: Wylde or King.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted November 6, 2002 Honestly, the best is probably some classical guitarist no one's ever heard of, but of course, we can only comment on what we've heard. That said, the poll choices are an iffy sample at best.
Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted November 6, 2002 I'm both shocked and apalled that there's a Greatest Guitarist Ever poll and Santana wasn't even mentioned btw, I voted for Clapton
Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted November 6, 2002 I'd think Tony Iommi at least rates a mention on the poll as well if you are going to list Dimebag Darrell.
Guest benoitrulz4life Report post Posted November 7, 2002 Come on now, be reasonable. I tried to make the list as accessible as possible. Everyone has a favorite guitarist that's not on there. If I included everyone that deserves mention than this is what the poll choices would be: Ace Frehley Adrian Smith Alex Lifeson Allen Collins Angus Young B.B. King Billy Corgan Billy Gibbons Brian May Brian Setzer Carlos Santana Chuck Berry Dave Davies Dave Murray David Gilmour Dez Dickerson Dickey Betts Dimebag Darrell Don Felder Duane Allman Eddie Hazel Eddie Van Halen Elliott Randall Eric Clapton Eric Johnson Frank Zappa Gary Rossington George Harrison Glenn Tipton Jeff Beck Jerry Cantrell Jerry Garcia Jimi Hendrix Jimmy Page Joe Perry Joe Satriani Joe Walsh John Fogerty John Frusciante John Petrucci Johnny Greenwood Johnny Winter Keith Richards Kirk Hammett Kurt Cobain Lenny Carlton Lou Reed Mark Knopfler Martin Barre Michael Schenker Mick Ronson Mike McCready Neil Young Pete Townshend Randy Rhoads Richie Sambora Ritchie Blackmore Robby Krieger Robert Fripp Slash Steve Howe Steve Vai Stevie Ray Vaughan Ted Nugent Tom Morello Tony Iommi Trey Anastasio Yngwie Malmsteen Zakk Wylde Geez, you can't please everyone. Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted November 7, 2002 that list seems very very fimiliar? Top 100 Guitar Solos?
Guest benoitrulz4life Report post Posted November 7, 2002 Exactly where I got it from. That list was voted on by fans and look how many choices there were. Maybe I should change that list to who is the best out of just these ten.
Guest godthedog Report post Posted November 7, 2002 greatest ever is probably hendrix, but stanley jordan deserves mention. he's got this amazing way of playing that no one can imitate that enables him to play chords and melody at the same time. download his version of 'eleanor rigby' and listen to it. then realize that all that shit is being played by the same guitar. it's awe-inspiring. Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted November 7, 2002 Dimebag Darrell is one of the WORST guitarists ever. Honestly, has the man ever come up with a genuinely great riff in his life? No. AND all his solo's are simple-as-fuck and sound like SHIT.
Guest The Amazing Rando Report post Posted November 7, 2002 Yngwie rocks, in my technical-sounding opinion... on that list....CLAPTON~!
Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted November 7, 2002 Santana
Guest The Metal Maniac Report post Posted November 7, 2002 I'd argue that Dimebag has had a few good riffs (Walk, 5 Minutes Alone) but then again, I don't like him either, and I hate his solos.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted November 7, 2002 I like Dimebag. But none of these guys can compare to Hendrix IMHO.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted November 7, 2002 Did somebody vote for Hammett just to annoy me? Or does someone honestly think that? Dimebag ain't that bad. He's come up with some pretty tough-ass riffs, like Mouth for War, By Demons be Driven, and Slaughter. Nothing mind-blowing technical or anything, but still good shit. Guest The Amazing Rando Report post Posted November 7, 2002 i'm guessing nobody here likes Stevie Ray Vaughan.... Live Alive is a good album too...
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted November 7, 2002 I do. A lot, in fact. AWESOME blues guitarist.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted November 7, 2002 Yngwie rocks, in my technical-sounding opinion... Yngwie is 100% full of himself and about 90% of his stuff is from classical music. We know Yngwie that you don't steal riffs from Bach and Tchkovsky
Guest Harry Hood Report post Posted November 7, 2002 To say someone that probably noone else has ever heard and to make myself seem cool... Tim Reynolds... *hopes he seems cool*
Guest GeneMean Report post Posted November 7, 2002 Marty Friedman
Guest snuffbox Report post Posted November 7, 2002 The brothers Young in AC/DC make for a pretty good combo, been makin those 3 chords work quite well for going on 30 years. Neil Young would get my vote, but since he does have a hardon for Hendrix, Jimi gets it. Other choice would have to be Billy Corgan, almost every guitar part the Pumpkins ever played was written by him, and there was some really good stuff there. Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted November 7, 2002 out of the whole list these guys are good: Ace Frehley Adrian Smith (with Murry) Alex Lifeson Allen Collins B.B. King Brian May Brian Setzer Carlos Santana Chuck Berry Dave Murray (with Smith) David Gilmour Dickey Betts Dimebag Darrell Don Felder Duane Allman Eddie Van Halen Eric Clapton Eric Johnson Frank Zappa George Harrison Glenn Tipton (with Downing) Jeff Beck Jerry Cantrell Jerry Garcia Jimi Hendrix Jimmy Page Joe Perry Joe Satriani Joe Walsh John Fogerty John Frusciante John Petrucci Johnny Winter Keith Richards Kirk Hammett Lenny Carlton Lou Reed Mark Knopfler Martin Barre Michael Schenker Mick Ronson Mike McCready Neil Young Pete Townshend Randy Rhoads Richie Sambora Ritchie Blackmore Robby Krieger Slash Steve Howe Steve Vai Stevie Ray Vaughan Ted Nugent Tom Morello Tony Iommi Trey Anastasio Zakk Wylde Some of those are completly biased...like Yngwie
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted November 7, 2002 To say someone that probably noone else has ever heard and to make myself seem cool... Tim Reynolds... He's better than a few people on the poll list, and this is coming from someone who detests DMB and all music that sounds like it.
Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Report post Posted November 8, 2002 FUCKING Stevie Ray Vaughn. Nobody can compare, at all.
