Kingdom Hearts

I apologize if someone made a thread for this game already.

I haven't played it, but I saw a commercial for it earlier today and I was in awe. Not because it was especially stunning graphics wise, but because I don't have a clue as to what the hell it is. It looked to be a Disney game, but it also looked to be an RPG with a mature story that seemed to encompass the Disney universe.

Could anyone enlighten me as to whether the urge to go out and rent it immediately is justified? What's it about?

Thanks.

I rented it last week, and although I only clocked in 3 hours, I loved it. I'll probably rent it again, or even consider buying it.

Basically, it's an action RPG, in which different "dimensions" are being thrown together by creatures called "The Heartless". So characters from the Final Fantasy dimension and the Disney dimenson criss cross each other. The main character is an FF one, and he teams with Donald and Goofy to travel to different worlds and save them from the Heartless. Each world is a "Disney Movie" themed world, with the villains from each movie being the boss. Movies that are used as worlds include Alice in Wonderland, The Little Mermaid and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The battle system is pretty simple and easy to learn. You can use weapons or magic, lose and gain mana and hit points, and you get experience and go up levels as well.

I'd recommend trying it out.

I hate rpgs but I really dig this game.

I started having a hell of a hard time in the Little Mermaid world...so I switched over to TimeSplitters 2 and MArio Sunshine until GTA Vice City took over my life.

I'll be back for you though Kingdom Hearts!

Wow. That sounds like a pretty spiffy plot. I'm gonna rent it as soon as I get the dough.

Don't rent it, go out and buy it ASAP! This game totally captured me, as in my eyes it is almost perfect (the camera can be a bother sometime, but it isn't that big of a deal).

It not only is the type of game I love more than any other (action-RPG), but it has all of the characters from Disney that I have always loved, period. Not only are they in it, but it makes you feel like you are IN the respective TV show or movie.

I can't believe how great a game it is, and I for one crave this to become a type of series...

...and I am not even through with this one yet!

Yeah, when I saw the commercial this morning, the part where Genie from Aladdin is almost doing this evil kind of laugh kind of made me go, "Whoa . . . this looks pretty dramatic . . . pretty good."

Unfortunately, buying it would do me no good since my PS2 is broken and I use my nephews. Renting is good for now.

However, my nephew's birthday was yesterday, and this weekend my sister is buying him GTA:VC! Mu-haha. Kingdom Hearts and VC. Can my weekend late night possibly get any better?

Borrow it, the game is seriously lacking in my opinion. They could have done so much more with this game but it feels like they cut a lot of things short. And the gummi ship is a joke. But if you find a used copy for 25, and I have seen it for that, go near a used game place near a college and you will, pick it up because its a solid game in terms of play, but lacking in what it should have been. No FF worlds, the gummi ship(which could have easily been a FF ship that you could upgrade, or Hooks ship, or it could have looked like the actually gummi ship from the show), bigger worlds. If you want to invest time into a game, this is a good choice for it cause their is tons of hidden hard as hell stuff to do though.

Good deal. If I like it when I rent it, I might pick it up (since I'm gonna fix my PS2 here soon anyway, hopefully) at a Funcoland or something.

And I'd agree that it sucks that there aren't any FF worlds. That might have been cool to run into some classic FF characters or villains along the way. Ah well.

Ummm, there are FF characters and villians in this game.

No, none of their worlds, but if you ask me, if they were in the game, it would have ruined the flow of what Kingdom Hearts is all about, they just wouldn't really fit in.

My .02:

I bought it not quite knowing what to expect. After FF X I was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. Man am I glad I did. Yes the worlds are all Disney but that doesn't make it any less difficult. Battle system is easy to pick up (although a bit on the button-mashing side when you're not bothering with magic) and the camera problem isn't as big a deal as the critics make it out to be. The addition of FF characters (esp. the Platinum Battle: HAVE FUN!) are a good touch and are actually explained, not just thrown in for Square's sake. Finally, the boss battles can be difficult (Ursula I'm looking at you) without being throw-down-your-controller annoying. Plus the extras (Ultimate Weapon, hidden bosses) are fun to go after.

Yes the Gummi ship is..lacking...but later in the game when you can just warp everywhere it doesn't really matter. Anyway, have fun and shoot for the "hidden" ending.

Why even bother to put the gummi ship thing in anywas, I mean make the worlds bigger and have warps from world to world that were beign guarded by bosses. I mean they dropped the gummi ship near the end, so why even bother with it in the first place.

Sorry, I just really hate the gummi ship it was so bad that its a disgrace to the game and if I was paying for the game i would have been pissed for spending 50 on a bad starfox in the middle of a game.

The Gummi ships about 10 minutes MAX of a 35+ hour game.

And GET THE HIDDEN ENDING. It's the shiznit.

I will agree that the Gummi ship is pointless though, it truly is.

In most of those "stages", you can put the controller down and you'll survive. I also wish there was a sort of warp thing instead of the ship. I would have thought it cool that he used his key to open up portals, that took them to the different worlds, that would have been awesome.

Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to rent Kingdom Hearts this weekend. But, I do have Vice City to hold me over, mu-hahaha.

In the mean time, though, I'm going to read up on Kingdom Hearts and try to rent it next weekend.

Tetris is one of the greatest games of all time, anyone can play it, any age, no reading required, no true plot, just a mental challenge. Tetris will live forever.
