Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted November 6, 2002 Report Posted November 6, 2002 Dawn Of The Dead, a great satire on major consumerism disguised as the epitome of all serious zombie films, lost to Clerks, a film with nothing but dick jokes and bad acting with some stoners and a porn-obsessed video clerk... ...there is no justice...
Guest godthedog Posted November 6, 2002 Report Posted November 6, 2002 the puro-head of the movie thread has nothing to complain about from this round. i'm happy with the results.
Guest LooseCannon Posted November 6, 2002 Report Posted November 6, 2002 I can't complain either. I at least like all of the movies that happened to beat my picks.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted November 6, 2002 Report Posted November 6, 2002 Even this travesty? Back to the Future...18 vs The Big Lebowski...14
Guest LooseCannon Posted November 6, 2002 Report Posted November 6, 2002 Even this travesty? Back to the Future...18 vs The Big Lebowski...14 If I were to complain about any, that is probably the one I'd be most upset about. But I can live with it. If Fargo lost to Back to the Future, I'd probably start killing people, but I know too many people who thought Big Lebowski was horrible and a lot of people who had fun with Back to the Future. So I won't really complain, though I would've went the other way too.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted November 6, 2002 Report Posted November 6, 2002 I like the Big Lebowski...but it shouldn't have beaten Better off Dead in the first damn place. The only jobs that really bugged me in this one were Night of the Living Dead and Die Hard.
Guest LooseCannon Posted November 7, 2002 Report Posted November 7, 2002 There's no way Die Hard beats Fargo. I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. And Pulp Fiction was probably the most significant movie made in the 90s in America. No way, that one goes the other way.
Guest Lord of The Curry Posted November 7, 2002 Report Posted November 7, 2002 <---- is in shock that Trainspotting won by so narrow a margain......that thing should've stomped Truman Show into the ground.
Guest godthedog Posted November 7, 2002 Report Posted November 7, 2002 ^agrees with lord. and it does kinda suck that 'lebowski' lost, but franky, that movie has no place in a group of what are supposed to be the greatest movies ever made. i mean i love it to death and all, but...it's not THAT great. not that 'back to the future' has any place in it either, but oh well.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted November 7, 2002 Report Posted November 7, 2002 I wouldn't mind Living Dead jobbing so much...but it got slaughtered. SHould have been closer. And Fargo is the most overrated movie of the 90s in my opinion...and remember, this is all about opinion. I'm suprised Trainspotting has made it this far...most people I know have never seen the movie. I still say a pox on your houses for putting Jaws over the Hustler, and The Crow over Cool Hand Luke.
Guest LooseCannon Posted November 7, 2002 Report Posted November 7, 2002 I still say a pox on your houses for putting Jaws over the Hustler, and The Crow over Cool Hand Luke. I agree with that.
Guest J*ingus Posted November 7, 2002 Report Posted November 7, 2002 A Clockwork Orange...20 vs Alien...13 Goodfellas...26[/b] vs Heat...6 Jaws...19 vs Lawrence of Arabia...13 Schindler's List...8 vs Silence of the Lambs...24 Shawshank Redemption, The...19 vs Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back...13 Usual Suspects, The...23 vs Wizard of Oz, The...9 You're all going to hell. That is all, carry on.
Guest El Satanico Posted November 7, 2002 Report Posted November 7, 2002 Other than Jaws winning and Schindlers List losing I fail to see your problem with those.
Guest Harry Hood Posted November 7, 2002 Report Posted November 7, 2002 There's no way Die Hard beats Fargo. I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. And Pulp Fiction was probably the most significant movie made in the 90s in America. No way, that one goes the other way. Yeh I guess pulp fiction was one of the mst significant movies of the 90's. But then agian NOTLD was one of hte most memorable, significant, and served sa inspiration for pretty much every horror movie made since hten. With next to no budget George Romero was able to create a scene of scuh dread and fright that has barely ever been recreated. Also Romero worked as director, editor, cinematographer, writer, and possibly producer. This came as a shock for me... Clerks and Dawn of the Dead are my favorite comedy and horror movie respectively...
Guest El Satanico Posted November 7, 2002 Report Posted November 7, 2002 Now i love Night of the Living Dead and all, but it isn't nearly as significant as Pulp Fiction is. Other than making zombie movies popular what has NOTLD done for the industry? Pulp Fiction has had a much bigger impact on the industry then NOTLD ever has.
Guest Harry Hood Posted November 7, 2002 Report Posted November 7, 2002 I think NOTLD has shown all young and aspiring directors that want to do horror movies that it's not all CGI and elaborate set-ups that are needed to instill fear. Which is what horror movies are all about, that feeling in your stomach taht makes you think, damn. Personally, I can't think of a much better movie than NOTLD for that. Scores of movies, and not just Zombie ones, have used that formula for years now and the truly frightneing ones have surely been influenced by NOTLD. Plus that ending is great. Lemme just say this if Texas Chainsaw Massacre had been put in place of NOTLD and PF had beaten that so soundly, heads would roll!!! But I may just be biased because I hated Pulp Ficiton.
Guest Special K Posted November 7, 2002 Report Posted November 7, 2002 Jeus, why does everyone love Back to the future so much? And if Shawshank wins the whole thing, I'm just going to shit.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted November 7, 2002 Report Posted November 7, 2002 Jeus, why does everyone love Back to the future so much? And if Shawshank wins the whole thing, I'm just going to shit. I don't like Back to the Future so much as I fucking hate Big Lebowski. I'm more pissed that Lawrence of Arabia lost, but I like Jaws so its not too bad. I imagine Godfather will win the whole thing.
Guest EricMM Posted November 7, 2002 Report Posted November 7, 2002 How did the crow beat Cool Hand Luke?? What we have here ... is a failure to communicate... *Goes and cuts the heads off parking meters in protest*
Guest C.H.U.D. Posted November 8, 2002 Report Posted November 8, 2002 I like Clerks, but I don't think it holds a candle to Dawn of the Dead. Oh well.
Guest Special K Posted November 8, 2002 Report Posted November 8, 2002 The Crow beat Cool Hand Luke, The CROW!?! Now it's OK, but when a good portion of your movie is a guy woefully (and now, laughably) rocking out with a guitar, you know you probably don't have a timeless movie like CHL. I'd probably chalk it up to not so many people seeing it.
LaParkaYourCar Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 ^agrees with lord. and it does kinda suck that 'lebowski' lost, but franky, that movie has no place in a group of what are supposed to be the greatest movies ever made. i mean i love it to death and all, but...it's not THAT great. not that 'back to the future' has any place in it either, but oh well. This isn't a list of the greatest movies ever. It's a tourney to see what the favorite movie of the Smart Marks is.
