On the list of upcoming videos on the main site at imdb.com I saw this

"Mystery Science Theater 3000" (DVD) 1st Season

Anybody heard anything about this???

I hadn't heard anything about it...hope it happens though. But for some reason I thought they'd start with the Mike seasons. Hell, the first couple seasons were on public access after all.

Unless you can be more specific about where you found it on the page, I'd say this is an IMDB goof.

There is a boxset coming out on the 12th that includes Bloodlust, Catalina Caper, The Creeping Terror, and Skydivers. Haven't read anything anywhere about the entire season though.

The MST gang have often expressed dislike for the first season, so I don't know. The dislike is with good reason, by the way, as only a handful of episodes were any good.

hmm...it might've been talking about that box set thing, who knows. But I saw that and figured if they were realeasing the first season, there might be more to follow...

I would doubt it.

In the episode guide they said several times that they'd never release the public access or 1st season episodes b/c they weren't very good.

This isn't happening. The only 1st season episode Rhino has the rights to is "The Crawling Hand". Complete season DVD sets are not going to happen.

I have fond memories of the first, non-UHF season episode of Robot Holocaust. It's probably the one episode from that season I want to see more than any other, but I fear if I got the chance, I would be disappointed.

Actually the Public Access episodes aren't considered to be the first season. The first season wasn't until the show got on The Comedy Channel. So by first season they don't mean the Public Access stuff.

However i still highly doubt that we will see season boxsets anytime in the near future. Maybe when a studio that has the money to and wants to buy the right to every movie it'll happen. It could also happen whenever all of the movies become Public Domain.

Season 0 was not on public access it was on KTMA ch. 23 in Minneapolis. I think the channel is a WB affiliate now.

They didn't evenhave the rights to the KTMA movies when they originally aired, so I doubt Best Brains could release them (even if they wanted to).

Oh well then i stand corrected on the channel.

They really didn't get the formula down till Season 3, before that it was a crappy movie with a few improvised jokes. It was more about the movie though then the jokes.

I didn't mean to come across as snippy. I was just trying to point out that they were always geting paid and filming in a studio, not sombody's basement.

Improvised? They've always scripted, PCG. Aside from that, I agree they truly hit their stride in the third season.

Nope, it was mostly improvised the 2 seasons. Josh Weinstein (Servo's first voice) left the show because they were starting to script the jokes.

That's why there are a lot of long lull periods in those shows.

Oh i didn't think you were.

I just figured it was public access and was just giving attention to the correction of the error. I'm not sure why i responded in the manner I did.

KTMA was mostly imporovised. Once they were on national cable they always wrote in advance and rarely strayed from the srcipted riffs. It's true that Josh Weinstien didn't feel comfortable with the wriing process and that's why he left after the first season. There was also probably a generation gap since "The Brains" were in their early 30's and Josh was about 18 or 19."
