Too much on my sister, IMO, but I still rule!

Prep of the Week: They swim with a family of Sharks

Victory in the Collier County Championships was a family affair for Gulf Coast High's Matt and Alyson Reischl.

Freshman Matt and senior sister Alyson led the Sharks to the boys, girls and overall title last Wednesday, an accomplishment worthy of being named Naples Daily News co-Preps of the Week.

Gulf Coast boys coach Harry Lawson says the meet was wonderful, even if he had to shave off his mustache because of it.

"It was sheer joy to see all that hard work pay off and for the teams to get a tangible victory," he says.

Reischl, who just turned 15, finished first in the 100-yard freestyle, second in the 50-yard freestyle, anchored the 200-meter freestyle relay and swam the backstroke in the 200-yard medley relay. Lawson says he sees a lot of promise in his young swimmer.

"He's got another good growth spurt in him," he says.

"It's wonderful to watch him, especially in seeing all the potential he has."

Matt Reischl says he sometimes surprises himself in performing so well so quickly.

"All of the sudden, my time will just drop," he says.

Sister Alyson has become the leader of the Gulf Coast girls team, girls coach Alison Woodruff says.

"She's our rock," she says.

"She's a go-getter and has the motivation to be successful."

Alyson Reischl won the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley and swam a leg in the Sharks' winning 200-yard freestyle relay. She says she has no problem handling the mantle of team leader.

"It's a little bit of pressure, but I kind of like it," she says.

"Especially when I win, I can just sit back and say, 'Whew, I did it.' "

Oooh, just another reason for you and I to have an all out feud, SS!

Anyhow, congrats on that!

What's your time for those events, SS? Do you know it in metres?

Well in yards, my 50 was a 23.8 (yuck...I'm actually a 22.9) and my hundred is a 51.6. I'm not sure about the conversions.
