Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted November 10, 2002 The opening match of the card saw Homicide quickly choke out Prince Nana in under three minutes. The next match saw Dixie & Joey Matthews vs. Chris Divine & Quiet Storm vs. Jose & Joel Maximo vs. The Hit Sqaud. At one point, Dixie and Divine were superplexed by the SAT, Matthews and Storm, while the Hit Squad pulled the whole pile down, powerbomb style, from one corner at the same time. The SAT hit the Spanish Fly on Dixie to get the win, after backdropping Quiet Storm from the ring onto their other opponents, who were outside the ring at that point. Crowd was very into the match, which saw the Hit Squad dominate most of the action, while the other opponents would break up their pin attempts. The Gauntlet match was next, which will determine the number one contender in Ring Of Honor. Michael Shane vs. CM Punk began the gauntlet. Punk did a rope walk at one point, holding Shane in a arm wringer, and jumped off, legdropping Shane's arm to the mat. Punk hit a armbreaker later in the match, and slingshotted onto the limb. Shane came back with an enzugiri, but Punk went back after the arm with a jujigatame. Shane got his knees up on a Punk 450, and superkicked him when he tried another top rope dive later. Shane missed a top rope elbow, and Punk hit a Shining Wizard (running knee to the face) for a two count. Shane finally reversed a rollup, and grabbed the ropes for leverage in about thirteen minutes. Punk reluctantly shook his hand (obeying the Code Of Honor) before leaving. Crowd was riding Shane hard for most of the match, heckling him. Paul London was out next to face Shane. They brawled on the floor to start, before making it into the ring. Shane scored a two count with a swinging DDT. London came back moments later with a DDT of his own as Shane was picking him off the mat, and got the pin in about six minutes. Crowd was into London big time, and chanted "Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye" at Shane for losing. Shane took the mic after the match, and called London's victory cheap, and said he would not shake his hand. Shane headed up the aisle to leave the ring. Tommy Dreamer came out from the curtain, to a thunderous ovation, and backed Shane into the ring. There were chants of "Dreamer" and "ECW" as he got into the ring. Dreamer got on the mic, and said that he was watching the show in the back, and he was not going to let Shane walk out without shaking hands. Dreamer thanked the fans, saying he was part of something very special for eight years, and now Ring Of Honor was trying to make something special now. A "Welcome Back" chant began, but Dreamer said he was not back, and that he had to work a house show later tonight in Philly. The crowd booed, and Dreamer commented that at least he gets a check now. Dreamer talked about how special it was for him to work for ECW's fans (who he called his friends), and that he watched Ring Of Honor tapes every month, and knew that they had something special here with their fans. Shane then shook London's hand, but immediately clotheslined him. Dreamer grabbed Shane and delivered a DDT, to another huge ovation. Dreamer took the mic again, and asked the soundman, since he was feeling nostalgic, to please play his music. "Man In The Box" blared as Dreamer left the ring. Red came to the ring, and the Gauntlet match continued with Red vs. London. London hit a long delayed vertical suplex. Red hit his "run up the back" dropkick to the back of the head, and a legsweep into a Red Star Press for a two count. London and Red were both standing on the top rope at the same time, and the fans chanted "Please Don't Die" as they balanced themselves. Red hit a rana from the top, which the crowd went nuts for. However, it was Londond with a shooting star press at the six minute mark to get the pin. American Dragon was out next, as the Gauntlet continued with Dragon vs. London. AJ Styles apparently had the luck of the draw, since the final match will not be held until later in the evening. Lots of mat wrestling, with Dragon hitting a double underhook suplex at one point. They brawled outside the ring briefly, but when they got back in, Dragon poured it on with dropkicks and forearms. London hit a standing moonsault for a two count. London hit a Russian leg sweep off the second rope, but got crotched on the top and Dragon hit a superplex for two. Dragon hit a dragon suplex, and applied Cattle Mutilation (roll over double arm bar) for the submission at the eleven minute mark. American Dragon faces AJ Styles later tonight to determine the number one contender in Ring Of Honor. A Ring Of Honor Tag Team Title match was next, with the title actually being defended in a six-man, as Christopher Daniels, Donovan Morgan & Samoa Joe, with Simply Luscious, defend against Low Ki, Doug Williams and their mystery partner, Homicide. Low Ki, Homicide and Doug Williams cleared the ring early, forcing The Prophecy to regroup on the floor. There were several tags with no contact by the Prophecy, as they teased who would start the match with Low Ki. Ki and Morgan finally began the match, and exchanged holds as the bout got underway. Low Ki applied a octopus variation on Morgan at one point. Neither team got an advantage early, with Homicide and Daniels picking up the pace with armdrags. Homicide cleaned house with lariats on Morgan and Joe, then hit a Yakuza kick on Daniels. Low Ki, Homicide and Williams worked over Daniels' arm. Williams hit a jumping knee in the corner, a suplex and a V Bomb off the middle rope in a nice sequence, but Morgan broke up the pin. Homicide and Low Ki hit a double kick on Daniels, and Low Ki hit a vertical suplex with a bridge for a two count. Williams put Daniels in a Gory Special, and put Morgan in a single leg crab, at the same time. Samoa broke it up with a kick to the head. Morgan got a two on Williams with a rana. The Prophecy took over on Williams, keeping him on their side of the ring, and on the floor. Daniels got a two count on Williams with a gutwrench powerbomb. Williams and Morgan got in a small package, and the other wrestlers ran in and turned the pile over and over again for two counts. Daniels got a two count with a moonsault, but Williams finally was able to tag in Homicide. Homicide got a two count with a stunner from the second rope on Daniels, and the match broke down into a brawl. Williams dove from the top rope onto Morgan on the floor. Daniels hit an Asai moonsault on Williams on the floor. Homicide hit a tope con hilo onto the pile. Low Ki hit a springboard onto the pile. Then, with the crowd egging him on, Samoa Joe hit a corkscrew pescado onto the pile. Back in the ring, several attempts were made at finishers and covers, with them being broken up, and the fans popping for the near falls. It settled back into a tag match, with Daniels and Low Ki in the ring. It didn't last long, as everyone was running back in. Daniels and Joe hit a powerbomb/neckbreaker combo on Low Ki. Williams hit a German suplex on Daniels. Morgan took out Williams, and Homicide hit a brainbuster on Morgan. It came down to Homicide and Joe. Homicide hit a seris of lariat, then Joe reversed a Cop Killer (vertebreaker) into a powerbomb, then applying an STF, before switching into a rear choke. Samoa Joe choked out Homicide for the win in about 26 minutes. After the match, Samoa Joe showed respect to his opponents, enraging Daniels and Morgan. Daniels shoved Joe, but then he and Morgan retreated to the back. Homicide, Daniels and Williams then received a nice hand from the fans. After intermission, Alison Danger, with Mace of the Christopher St. Connection, took on Alexis Laree. Alison attacked early, but could not get the better of Alexis, who hit a baseball slide on Danger as she regrouped on the floor early, and hit a top rope dive on Mace on the floor. Danger came back by kicking away a backdrop and hitting a neckbreaker across her knee. Danger kissed Alexis and rubbed her body against hers at one point (copying the gay gimmick the CSC use), to a pop. Alexis hit a neckbreaker to get the win in four minutes. Mace laid out Alexis after the match, suplexing her. The Ring Crew, Don and Marcos, was to face the Carnage Crew, Loc and DeVito. Loc and Devito came to the ring and obliterated them with their hubcaps. Members of the ring crew ran in from the back to help, but Loc and DeVito just destroyed them. DeVito hit a superplex on Ring Crew Guy #4. DeVito set up Marcos for second rope piledriver, and Loc joined him, making it a second rope spike piledriver, for the pin in two minutes. Gary Michael Cappetta came to the ring, and introduced a special guest to the crowd, former ECW standout, and founder of the Full Blooded Italians, J.T. Smith. As Smith was thanking the fans, Special K (Joey Matthews, Dixie and Izzy) came to the ring. Matthews took the mic from J.T. Smith and asked why they shouldn't hurt him right now. J.T. said he would excuse them since they were young, then showed him how they treat young punks, and slugged them. Special K outnumbered J.T., and beat him down with a mop handle, until Mr. X & Y ran in to save him. A large man in a black suit, wearing sunglasses, entered the ring from the crowd and chokeslammed X & Y, but shook hands with J.T. Smith before returning to the crowd. He had done the same think at the last show. J.T. took the mic, glaring toward the curtain, where Special K had exited, and said "this crap isn't over yet" before heading to the back. Jay Briscoe vs. ROH Champion Xavier was next, with Simply Luscious coming out to introduce the champion. Jay went after the leg early, applying a leglace, while Xavier went after the arm. The fans seemed more interested in chanting "F*** You Hat Guy" at John Bailey (the Hat Guy of ECW fame) and harassing Simply Luscious during the early part of the match. Xavier took a breather on the floor, and when he returned to the ring, they engaged in a test of strength, Jay turning it into a series of armdrags, followed by a rana and a dropkick that got the crowd back into the match. Jay hit a face front powerbomb, then hit the old Cactus clothesline, sending he and Xavier to the floor. They battled on the apron, and Xavier suplexed Jay from the apron to the floor, then dropped an elbow on him. They brawled on the floor, and Xavier pounded him in the ring. Luscious reached in a choked Jay against the ropes, allowing Xavier to hit a running straddle against the middle rope. Jay battled back with a running elbow in the corner and a gourdbuster for a two count. The crowd was back to riding Simply Luscious. Xavier hit an overhead belly to belly suplex to polite applause. Luscious tripped Jay and dragged him to the floor. When he got back on the apron, Xavier elbowed him to the floor, then moonsaulted from the top rope onto Jay on the floor. They brawled on the floor, and when they returned to the ring, Briscoe was bleeding heavily. The crowd got behind Jay with a "Let's Go Briscoe" chant, as Xavier worked him over with a full nelson. Xavier stayed in control, but missed a second rope legdrop. Briscoe went for the J-Driller, but Xavier turned it into a spinebuster. They battled on the ropes, and Jay hit a top rope superplex, after his previous attempt, going for a sunset flip-style powerbomb, was blocked. Briscoe hit a German suplex for a two count. Briscoe hit a death valley driver and slowly went to the top rope and hit a legdrop for another two. Briscoe went for the J Driller, but Xavier got out and kicked Briscoe, then hit a cobra slam and a face first powerbomb for a two count. Briscoe came back with a reversal into a powerbomb, and went to the top for a moonsault, but Simply Luscious crotched him, and Xavier delivered a neckbreaker from the corner for the pin. Xavier retains the ROH Championship in about twenty minutes. The crowd seemed to get more into the match after the first fifteen minutes, really getting behind Jay at the end. The final match of the Gauntlet from earlier this evening was next, with American Dragon facing AJ Styles. The winner will be the number one contender in Ring Of Honor. They started with an exchange of mat wrestling, which got a standing ovation when they stalemated. They continued to grapple, exchanging holds, with the fans applauding each exchange. Dragon hit a drop toe hold that sent Styles to the floor. Dragon and Styles battled on the floor, with Styles taking over, and he scored a two count when they returned to the ring, and then hitting a backbreaker followed immediately with a gutbuster. The two exchanged monkey flips while in a test of strength, but neither would relinquish the grip, until Dragon kicked himself free. Dragon then went to work on the left arm, kicking it and driving his knee into it. Dragon stayed in control, working on the left arm. Styles managed a sunset flip for a two count, but Dragon kicked out and just stomped Styles. Styles mounted a comeback, and went for his moonsault into a reverse DDT, but Dragon reversed that into a Northern Lights suplex for a two count. Dragon was bleeding from near his eye, as the two exchanged forearms. Styles hit a brainbuster, and applied a Mutalock, then rolled it over, so Dragon was stretched surfboard style. Dragon grabbed his own chinlock, and the two yanked back and forth for position. Both began choking each other, so referee Hanson forced them to break. Styles hit a vertical suplex into a neckbreaker for a two count. A series of reversals ended in a German suplex by Dragon for a two count, followed by a belly to belly. Dragon hit a top rope headbutt for another two count. Dragon missed a clothesline, and Styles hit a spinkick. Styles hit a German suplex, rolled through, then tossed Dragon face first into the mat for a two count. Styles went to the top, but Dragon crotched him. Dragon went for a back superplex, but halfway down, he just tossed Styles, almost like a released backdrop driver from the ropes. When the two made their feet, they exchanged punches. Both missed discus punches, then they went for the move simultaneously, knocking each other down. They exchanged chops and slaps while on their knees, then Dragon began unloading with chops and forearms in the corner, to a big ovation. Styles came back, hitting the moonsault into the reverse DDT for a two count. Styles hit the Styles Clash, but Dragon kicked out at two. Dragon reversed a waistlock into a Dragon suplex for a two count. Dragon applied Cattle Mutilation, and rolled Styles into a pinning position for a two count. Dragon went to the top rope, and AJ joined him. Dragon kept shoving Styles back, but Styles grabbed Dragon, presumably for a Styles Clash, so Dragon grabbed the ropes. Styles rammed Dragon headfirst into the buckles repeatedly, then finally pulled Dragon out into a powerbomb. Styles maintained his grip and went for the Styles Clash, but Dragon would not his arms get hooked, so Styles powerbombed him to the mat, lifted him back up, then finally hit the Styles Clash for the win in about 24 minutes. The fans gave them a standing ovation, and a "ROH" chant. A bloodied Dragon handed Styles the number one contenders trophy. Dragon left the ring, and the Prophecy (Daniels, Morgan and Xavier) hit the ring and attacked Styles, but Jay Briscoe and Dragon ran in to make the save. The final match of the evening is a Zero-One tag team match with Shinjiro Ohtani & Masato Tanaka vs. Steve Corino & Low Ki, who are seconded by Samoa Joe. Low Ki and Masato started the match, with Masato working on the arm, and Low Ki rolling on his shoulders and kicking Tanaka in the face to escape. Masato hit a pumphandle powerbomb, and Low Ki went to the floor to regroup. Low Ki hit a back suplex, and applied a surfboard, which he switched into an abdominal stretch as Masato got to his feet. Masato tripped out, and applied a leglace, then tagged in Ohtani. Ohtani tied him to the tree of woe, then hit a baseball slide dropkick to the face, twice. Ohtani slammed Low Ki twice, then wrenched his neck. Low Ki powered into his corner and tagged in Corino, who stomped Ohtani down. Ohtani blocked a snapmare, so Corino went into a front facelock. Ohtani hit chops in the corner and choked him with his boot. Masato tagged in for a drop toe hold/elbowdrop combo, then Tanaka held Corino in a camel clutch for a Ohtani dropkick to the face. Tanaka hit a running elbow in the corner, then pounded him with punches, before grabbing a rear chinlock. Corino backed Tanak in his corner, and tagged Low Ki, who hit a running boot to the face. Low Ki slammed Tanaka and hit a powerdrive elbow, then applied a headscissors, which Tanaka turned into a camel clutch. Ohtani tagged in and applied a rear choke, but Low Ki made the ropes. Ohtani stomped him, and chopped him in the corner. Low Ki fired back with chops, and hit a forearm before tagging in Corino. Corino ripped at Ohtani's face, then hit a reverse elbow and applied a jujigatame, but Ohtani bit out of it, chomping down on Corino's fingers, which got a huge pop. Ohtani set up for his boot scrapes to the face, and the crowd went nuts. Ohtani scraped his boot across Corino's face, then hit a running kick, to a huge ovation. Corino ducked another kick, and choked Ohtani with the tape from his wrist. Low Ki tagged in and was backdropped to the apron, but he grabbed Ohtani in the Hanging Dragon (dragon sleeper on the ropes). Ki went for the Ki Krusher, but Ohtani blocked it, so he switched to a dragon sleeper, which Tanaka broke up. Ki missed a springboard kick, and Ohtani hit a spin kick and tagged Tanaka. Low Ki hit a rolling kick on a charging Tanaka, then chopped him in the corner. Low Ki hit the handspring kick, and got a two count. Low Ki whipped Tanaka across the ring, but Tanaka came back with a spear, then gave Corino a stunner and Low Ki a DDT at the same time. Tanaka hit a suplex into a stunner on Low Ki, then a top rope splash for a two count. Tanaka missed a charge in the corner, and Ki hit a series of kicks to the chest. Corino tagged in and hit a flying leg lariat on Tanaka, but Tanaka came back with an elbow and a lariat. Tanaka knocked Low Ki off the apron, and Ohtani hit Corino with a swinging DDT, followed by Tanaka hitting one. Corino came back with a suplex on Ohtani, followed by a series of vertical suplexes, ending with a brainbuster, while Ki and Tanaka fought on the floor. Corino hit the Old School Expulsion on Ohtani, but Tanaka broke up the pin. Corino hit a brainbuster for another two count. Low Ki whipped Tanaka into the guardrail. Low Ki got in the ring, and Corino held Ohtani for a springboard kick, but Ohtani moved, and Ki kicked Corino. Tanaka came in and hit a lariat on Ki, and sent him from the ring. Ohtani hit a springboard dropkick to the back of Corino's head as he got up, then delivered a spinning powerbomb for the pin at the sixteen minute mark. All four men shook hands after the match, as the fans chanted "ROH" and "Zero One", then applauded again. That's all from Ring Of Honor, goodnight everyone! Aside from the filler, the showed seemed FUCKING TREMENDOUS, especially Styles & Dragon.

Guest Last Warrior Report post Posted November 10, 2002 This definately does sound like their best overall show so far. The first show was avege - good with a MOTYC main event. The second show had three great matches but they all involved the same three workers. Since then on the whole they have been good shows. But this sounds like there were a lot of good matches involving loads of different workers. Of course I am biased towards any show with Doug Williams on it but i will definately be buying this. Guest Miss Indy Queen Report post Posted November 13, 2002 This show in my opinion was their best show to date. Aj Styles/Dragon was really good as well as the second match. The crowd went nuts for Dreamer which I'm hoping will be on the tape when it comes out but as it stands right now, they don't know if it will be on the tape. The main event was awesome and just the feel of the show was tremendous. We do have Abby to look forward to as well as Konnan becoming a regular. I don't know how that is going to work out but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted November 14, 2002 so MIQ, i take it you were there... if so, how did the crowd respond to the japanese guys? i am just suitably stoked to see ohtani on american shores again.
Guest Miss Indy Queen Report post Posted November 14, 2002 Goodhelmet yes I was there for ROH on saturday. Actually I was very surprised that the crowd went NUTS for Ohtani and Tanaka. I figured everyone knew Tanaka from ECW days but Ohtani I had only seen tapes of him but had never seen him live. The crowd was very hyped for this match and was very much behind the Japanese guys. One of the owners of Zero One was in attendance and was acknowledged before the match. After the match the crowd was on their feet chanting for Ohtani and Tanaka.
