But FF VII, that is something special...I mean, Sephiroth > Kefka. I'm sorry, but when Sephiroth absolutely destroys everything close to you and THEN tries to destroy your mind and your memories...THAT, my friends, is a villain. Kefka just had that annoying laugh (which was BEYOND SWANK~!, I must add) and could level off armies in a single blow. Fine. Sephiroth had the better weapon.

Pffft. Sephiroth is in no way greater than Kefka. Why?

Because Sephiroth went evil BECAUSE he went insane.

Villains should, at their very core, be evil. They should eat, drink, sleep, and shit evil. Sephiroth was driven insane, then became evil as a result.

Whereas Kefka is evil. He goes insane, or so some people argue, but that's after and as a result of being evil. Kefka poisons people for fun, for God's sake! Sephiroth slaughtered people, but he did it because he was pissed off! THAT'S NOT EVIL! Killing for recreation is evil, not attempts at revenge! Revenge = teh not evil!

KEFKA > SEPHIROTH

The best would obviously be 6. As far as my favorites, 7, 9, and 10 are all pretty bitchin'. Plus, Cid Highwind, Zidane, and Auruon(sp?) own your ass.

I picked FFX. I've never played any of the other FF games except for 8... which I hated from the start (I didn't get far in that game at all)

The last ones I played were 7 (which I voted for) & 9, but I'm considering picking up FFX when it hits the budget line. I don't have too much patience for RPGs unfortunately. :)

The thing I really hated in FFVII was *puts flame sheild on* the materia system." I know that it seemed to catch on well, but it really didnt go well with me.

Another problem with FFVII was the god-awfull times it took to level up if your party members are too weak to fight some of the bosses. The fact that you cant skip a summon animation ticks me off to no end.

I'm rather suprised by the tons of pro-FF VI people here. I loved the game to bits, but most people I've met seem to prefer FFVII or even FF IV.

I happen to be one of the few who managed to enjoy FFVIII. It had it's bad times, but I

a) Liked the futuristic design.

b) Didn't hate every character.

c) Loved the music.

So yeah. Go FFVIII or something. <insert Squall = suck comment here>

Of course, Crono Trigger kicks ass on all FF, in that it's the greatest RPG ever. Someone in an above post knew someone who couldn't get into that game, which is truly wrong. And I still like the graphics of CT and Super Metroid for that matter.

How does everyone here feel about Ogre Battle? Anyone even played it?

FFI was awesome, the evolution of video game rpg's... the plot with simple to understand, and the game didn't get retardedly difficult to follow...

But it was hard enough to give some challenge...

I actually dug it out and just restarted it on my original NES

CT was slightly worse than FFVI because it had worse graphics, and much less atmosphere. You don't get much better than the first town of FFVI, or Terra, or Kefka. If that game were spruced up gfx and music wise it'd be the best game ever again.

True, but since neither are strategy RPGs, battle mode is relatively minor compared with plot and characters, and FF6 wins in both those areas, imo. Not to take anything away from CT though, since it's also a totally amazing game.

I voted for 6. Other favorites of mine include 5, 7, and 10 (The sphere grid is a nice idea, and the Arena & its bosses provide a nice challenge).

KEFKA > SEPHIROTH

On behalf of my people, I thank you.

I mean, Sephy wanted to become a God. KEFKA ACTUALLY BECAME ONE.

However, as for the poll question, I'm afraid I cannot answer. You see, the Game Boy versions of Final Fantasy were always my favorites.

Fear the nostalgia.

What, was it the limited weapons? The bad translations(FFL1 is what I'm talking about here)

I'm such a Legends mark it's sad. I think 2 was the best one.

I've played more RPGs than probably anyone ever.

FF6 for gameplay

ff7 for story

FFX splits the difference.

Overall, it goes much the same for me.

1. 6

2. 7

3. X.

4. 4 tied w 9

5. 8 (good story, awful system)

6. 5 (good system not used so well, awful plot)

I think I disagree with this. CT had better graphics IMO (FF VI's Apocalyse-y bit in the middle of the game was nowhere near as graphically cool as Zeal being ripped apart in CT). CT also had at least as much atmosphere as FF VI. I still vividly remember the lost hope of the future gone wrong (you feel rested up...but are still hungry), the creepyness of Magus' Castle, and the awesome End of Time. God, I loved that game.

It's almost moot arguing this though, since both games are just so good. I'd probably give CT the slight edge to FFVI, and I imagine it's just reversed with you. Both are excellent games.

I have a thing against Gaming Nostalgia really (go see how I vent on the Nintendo franchises to see what I mean,) but in the case of FF, everyone always picks the first one they ever played as their favorite... Not like I'm doing anything to buck the trend, really. -_-

I didn't play Legends 1 though.

But really, the only thing Square is doing that may or may not interest me is GBA games. I have no interest in Crystal Chronicles since I'm the only person I know with a GBA anyway.

What the hell is up with Nintendo making games that keep encouraging gamers to go get social lives? You just don't do that when you like video games. ;)

FF4 is my favorite game, and I first played it on an emulator... so that theory doesn't stand. I don't care about graphics in RPG's, and I don't care much about storylines since it's basically the same in every RPG. I could relate with everyone of FF4's characters.

On the flipside, I've been playing FF5 now, and I don't like it... simply because the job system makes all the characters the same. It may be a slight improvement in gameplay, but it just kills the game for me.

Jingus, I'm sorry, but Mystic Quest sucks. The gameplay isn't the problem... I know it's totally for beginners... it's just that there's NO story and the characters are blah. Hell, you have to fight 10 monsters from a little box on an island to move on in the game. It's retarded.

CT did not have worse graphics than FFVI. They are basically the same, except CT is just a brighter game in many aspects. I prefer CT, because halfway through FFVI... all the characters end up being the same.

I gave up on FFV because of the jobs and sort of wandering plot.

On another note, I've been playing CT finally thanks to Mr. Emulator, and I must admit it's a pretty engrossing game so far. I'm in 65,000,000 BC or whatever year it is right now. Good ole Turbo came in handy during the soup-eating contest. Graphically so far, I give the edge to FFVI. The battle system for CT rules though, since the idea of double teaming with the techniques is pretty novel to casual RPGers like myself. The plot is pretty good so far, but unlike FFVI, there's a lack of an overall objective (at least so far). It's as if you're travelling from point A to another point A to another point A and so on. FFVI had one big-ass villain that you were fighting or whatever.

Ehh, I'm such a veritable newbie with RPGs, don't bother listening to me.

The traveling does connect rather well in CT, though... as it all leads to the end. It's also a time traveling game, and the places have to be very different.

I also hate when doing constant traveling from point A to B that has nothing to do with the storyline. If you play Lufia, it's 95% doing that... so stay away from that one. :)

I also know I won't have the patience to get all eight billion endings or whatever that Chrono Trigger has. Depending on how well or how badly I end it, I might pursue another ending just to see how different it is, but I'll never get them ALL.

And CT could have sucked donkey balls but I'd have loved it anyway because it has TIME TRAVEL~! Well, that and I named the princess character Kylie.

I liked FFVIII too. It was the first Final Fantasy I played though, so that might have something to do with it.

Julio, I was kidding. Everyone hates that game. Plenty of people, including myself, wonder just how the hell Sqaure actually made MQ, Secret of Evermore, and the FF Legend series.

Personally, I'd side with FFVI over CT. Chrono Trigger certainly isn't without its charm, but it just felt too bright and happy so much of the time, and when the gloom & doom hit, it REALLY hit, making the game-playing into an actually depressing experience. I for one always have been a fan of the big headed, tiny bodied Super Deformed graphics genre which served the FF series so well, and I didn't like CT's more realistic style. The villains are pretty weak too; aside from Magus, who's kinda Sephiroth-in-training, they've got giant hellbeast Lavos who never really interacts with the plot or does anything (and looks really stupid when you finally see his real form), and then... uh... Queen Zeal, yeah, and... hmmm... Ozzie... and... well, see my point? Kefka and the Empire would've had these guys for breakfast.

On a side note, Final Fantasy Tactics may be one of the most engrossing games ever, just for the gameplay. The translation is laughable though. It's like $15 now, so getitgetitgetit.
