Dan Reeves and Mike Vick

I have been watching Vick all year long and something hit me today while watching the Falcons/Steelers game. Dan Reeves is too conservative of a coach for Vick. Look at Elways numbers when Reeves was in Denver. Reeves ran the ball for 3 quaters(mainly) and then when it became crunch time Elway had to save their ass. It could just be me, but I think Vick has way too much potential for Reeve's coaching style.

He has a ridiculous amount of potential. Not only is he as fast as a lot of running back (and able to move as well), but he has a very strong and accurate arm. Vick is someone you change your offensive strategy for. I don't think you build the offense around him, since you'd have to do a radical gear-shifting if he got hurt, but you definitely have to play to his strengths. Atlanta doesn't have a bad team, and I think if they tailored their offense more to what they know Vick can do, they'd be even better.

Hell, if offensive tailoring can make Kordell Freaking Stewart look good for one season, imagine what it can do for someone who actually has some talent at the position.

I like the combonation of Reeves and Vick...It'll keep Vick from becoming a old man at 27. If you ground him and let him save his motor for the 4th...He'll kill ya (as seen last night).

I agree w/ Choken. I think it's good for Vick to have Reeves as a coach. There's nothing wrong with scrambling, but doing it all the time will probably get him put on the shelf. Besides, Reeves didn't do that bad a job with another certain scrambling QB back in the 80s. Hopefully, this coach/QB realtionship in Atlanta will be more pleasant...

Vick won't have to win games for the Falcons all by himself when they can get him better weapons. They will still set up plays that uses Vick's running talent, but at some point Vick will be more of a passer than he is a runner so Reeves isn't that bad of a coach for him.

Also Vick unlike most scrambling QBs has an amazingly strong arm and can run as good as a RB. So he's basically something that the NFL has never seen before. So what seems like Reeves being too conservative with Vick may actually be Reeves not knowing exactly how to use Vick at this point.

For those that believe that Dan Reeves is not properly using Mike Vick, need to look at one man that closely resembles Vick, Jeff Blake.

Jeff Blake, with the bengals was the premiere scrambler and Hard 60 yard passer "The DEEP Ball" as he calls it. Problem was, He was ran ragged by Coaches that used him improperly, exploited his penchance to run and hurl the ball 40-55 yards deep each drive. Now, Jeff Blake became an old man at 30 years of age.

Dan Reeves is an very intelligent coach that will allow for Vick to learn to read defenses because after 30, Vick can't run as much as he can today. Reeves is teaching him a evoultion of playing.
