Guest pappajacks Posted November 11, 2002 Report Posted November 11, 2002 I think at a time when so many people talk about going to war like it's no different than putting on a football match, it's important to remember the toll war has taken on so many people. What does Rememberance Day (in Canada) and Veterans Day (in the USA) represent to you?
Guest evenflowDDT Posted November 11, 2002 Report Posted November 11, 2002 It represents how lucky my father was to NOT die or be permanently scarred in a war that accomplished nothing (Vietnam) like so many of his friends and countrymen did.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted November 11, 2002 Report Posted November 11, 2002 Making the ultimate sacrifice. From Lexington and Concord all the way to Afghanistan.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted November 11, 2002 Report Posted November 11, 2002 I always spend a few minutes thinking about my grandpa, who took a chunk of shrapnel in the arm when he was in the Navy as a gunner on a carrier. Then he spent the next 50 years drinking himself into senility and poor health. Needless to say I had a world of respect for him yet absolutely none at the same time.
Guest X briar rose X Posted November 11, 2002 Report Posted November 11, 2002 I think about the bomber crews over Europe, how well they did their jobs under the circumstances, and how honored I was to meet Capt. Morgan, who flew the Memphis Belle (first to complete a 25 mission tour and return to US). And about a friend's grandfather, who still to this day, cannot talk about his experience in Vietnam because of the sheer emotion is brings forth.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted November 11, 2002 Report Posted November 11, 2002 I try to avoid thinking about it, not because I dislike it or anything, I just don't like being reminded of my grandfather, because it makes me extremely sad. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
