Attendance Woes...

Recommended Posts

Guest BifEverchad

WWE attendance numbers continue to plummet. Reports indicate that the WWE House Shows over the weekend had extremely low attendance numbers. It seems that the deeper WWE gets into the brand extension, the more it hurts the company. When the extension first went into effect, the idea was to raise the gross revenue, if not the net profit, even if attendance began to slip. It did work for a while, however, if your run two shows in one night, and draw about 7,000 people, that is not very good. How will WWE deal with this problem? For now, only time will tell.

Well, ticket prices are a lot higher than they were 10 years ago, and attendance is at roughly the same level of 10 years ago, if not higher. So where's the problem?

The sollution is obviously to keep pushing the suck up top, because if you do, fans will realize that that's what they want.

An example of a house show, last night in Peoria:

Smackdown House Show

Peoria Civic Center, Peoria, IL

11-10-02

Report by: Ryan Woodrow

Match 1

Ron Simmons, D-Von Dudley and Bull Buchanan vs. Val

Venis, Shelton Banjaman, and Eric Angle

Before the match started D-Von cuts a promo on how

rotton Peoria and its citizens are. I of course has

to agree, I don't live here, I just go to school here.

The faces then come out. After lots of posing the

match gets underway. Nothing real interesting, Val

Venis get the pin with the Money Shot.

Match 2

Nathan Jones vs. Crash

Typical big man versus little man humor. Crash went

outside to get a chair to stand on so he could look

Jones in the eye. We knew the match was over when

Crash went for a Chokeslam and had to stretch to reach

Jones' neck. Nathan Jones wins with what looked like

a big DDT. (The ref was in my line of sight)

Match 3

John Cena and Doug Bashem vs. Billy Kidman and Chuck

Palumbo

What stood out most was how much heat Cena had. The

crowd was just nasty to him. I can't remember who got

the pin but Billy and Chuck (Billy Kidman that is )

won.

Match 4

WWE Cruiserweight Title Match

Jamie Noble with Nidia vs. Tajiri

Lots of mat work in this one with only minimal

interference from Nidia. After Tajiri applied the

tarantula, Noble was able to roll up Tajiri for the

pin.

Match 5

"Kiss My Ass Match"

Rikishi vs. Matt v1.0

Lots of back and forth action. Rikishi eventually

pick up the pin fall. Matt rolls out of the ring

refusing to kiss anyones ass. The ref gives him until

the count of 10 to get back in the ring or face

indefinate suspension. Matt reluctantly climbs back

in and gets on his knees but then low blows Rikishi.

Matt grabs the mic and says the only ass kissing that

will happen will be Rikishi kissing his "perfect" ass.

Matt procedes to pull his pants down and pull his

shorts up his crack. (Jeff must be so proud of his

brother). Rikishi recovers and throw Matt into the

corner and delivers the Stinkface. As Matt leaves,

Rikishi pulls a couple kids out of the audience and

dances with them for several minutes.

Intermission

Match 6

Albert vs. Chris Benoit

These two can put on a pretty good match. Albert

delivered lots of power moves and Benoit reversed them

into several different submissions. Beniot put Albert

in the Crossface but the match went to no contest when

Big Show comes out deliveres the Chokeslam to both of

them. Big Show calls out Brock Lesnar saying he

doesn't want to wait until next Sunday. Brock comes

out and the two have a staredown. The pushing adn

shoving starts and the ref rings the bell. Benoit and

Albert recover and attack Big Show. The entire locker

room emptied out with the faces and heels attacking

each other. The heel run off and the face then take

out their agression on Tony Chimmel. I hope he got a

big raise because he took a Stinkface from about five

different people including Rikishi.

Match 7

Bonus Bra and Panties Match

Torrie Wilson vs. Dawn Marie

Typical women's match. Dawn and Torrie end up on top

of each other rolling around on the mat. The ref

tries to break them up but is pulled in. After that

he jumps up and poses on the corner turnbuckle and get

a huge pop from the males in the audience. Torrie

eventually wins the match. Just as she as about to

give us a peek at her too fine rear end, Nidia runs

out and attacks her. It doesn't do much good as she

soon loses her shorts. Torrie poses for a couple more

minutes.

Match 8

WWE Tag Team Championship Match

Edge and Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie and Chavo Gurerro

Eddie and Chavo dominated Edge for most of the match.

After Edge tags is Rey, Rey and Chavo put on a good

quick show together. Rey hits a double 619 on both

Eddie and Chavo. Rey goes off the top rope and hits

his finisher for the win.

Overall it was a fun show. There was lots of

interaction between the wrestlers and the fans.

Suprisingly there was not much heat anyone (except

Cena of course) The Civic Center holds about 13000

people but I would guess that there were less than

5000 people in attendance. This is interesting since

it just back in April when we had a Smackdow taping

and the arena was nearly sold out.

A 13000 seat arena, got about 4500? There's definately something

wrong with today's product. That house show sounded the shits.

What the HELL is up with the heavy amount of stinkfaces?

Is it a rule to allow Rikishi to "stinkface" opponents every night? Which of the bookers has this insane ass fetish?

Ooh, I hope this house show is done on TV and next Smackdown has Benoit sacrificed in the name of Brock and Big Show just like Eddy was! That will get me to watch!

Benoit and ALBERT in the same ring? Shouldn't that be illegal? And when Benoit can't get the clean win over fucking ALBERT without SLOW taking out everyone, the WWE is in a sad state.

Dec 1 show at San Antonio SBC Center will be headlined by Brock vs Big Show and Edge & Rey vs Eddy & Chavo. It looks like it will be the same show as the Peoria Illinois one. With the Stinky Face and Bra N Panty match also.

Any predictions or opinions

Don't go. Or during the Brock/Show match, hold up a big sign that says "W. (Missing: Second "W" and "E")

I'll be surprised if the Brock/Big Show feud lasts that long, unless Benoit & Angle are being groomed for long angles with Brock and need the correct blow-off to their feud at Armageddon.

That's crazy talk. As badly as they are booked, I think (pray) they won't be sacrificed in the name of the push from hell.

Heyman already got one program where Benoit got fed to Brock aborted I am sure he could do it again if they dont have some reason for Benoit to be in the feud.

I want to go just to see Los Guerreros and Misterio, I would not stay for Brock vs Show because the traffic in San Antonio is very bad.

With my luck, however, it would probably sound like "FIRE! RUN!" Which in actuallity, might prove to be effective...

or I could start one of those long winded chants that last forever just like on the Conan O'Brian show.

"We want Eddy Guerrero to be champ, we don't care for the HOSS~ even though every thing in Texas is big that does not mean that we wanted to see Bradshaw as champ or witness boring slow wrestlers with the look we want the Shooting Star Press SSP SSP SSP SSP SSP SSP SSP"

Why am I not surprised that they opted for ECW-esque run-ins in regards to Brock/Show, after the poor receptions their matches have been getting in previous house shows? And this is supposed to co-headline a flagship PPV?

At times like this I really hate WWE and think that they deserve everything they've received lately.

I shed a tear thinking of all the food Big Show eats, knowing it could feed thousands of starving children around the world.

Didn't Canada have a REALLY long winded Pro Stacy chant around Mania?
