Frink- "We're up to 15!!"

The worst episode is the one where the Simposns visit Africa. It's completely pitiful. It made no sense and I didnt even crack a smile once.

The best line is:

(Tagahye(sp?) closes grass door)

Marge: Homer did you remember to tip Tagahye?

Tagahye:(poping out of nowhere) No he didn't.

That made me smile, that and Bart having the bug curtin inside out.

I highly disagree. That episode aired in syndication yesterday, and I still love it.

It's difficult for me to pick out just one. A lot of the mediocre episodes from last season are all a blur to me now, and there were a handful of episodes from the first season that were pretty shitty, too. Most likely, the WORST episode is in the first season, as just about every one from last season had at least one moderately amusing moment, whereas the first season was deathly dull at times.

The episode where Bart and the tubby white guy who thinks he's Michael Jackson sing a birthday duet to Lisa. Something about Lisa getting "her first kiss from a boy."

*shivers*

Oh God no! Horrible memories coming back! That was the worse episode. Also have to go with the boy band one and a lot from the first season. I cant stand the first season. But the Frank Grimes episode is the best. Can't go wrong with that episode.

That Michael Jackson episode is one of the best episodes ever.

I like the Simpsons that have the nice sweet endings so I enjoyed that one a lot

In the Africa episode I like how the Jane Goodall rip-off has "Diamonds everywhere, even on the soles of her shoes."

I also don't care for the Michael Jackson episode. It seemed to accomodating to Michael even though the concept was intriguing.

My favorite Simpsons endings are the ones that look like they're going to turn out sweet and standard sitcom-y, but end on a harsher note, like Homer choking Bart out.

Anything with too much Lisa is bad.

The whining little bleeder!

My favorite sweet ending would be the episode where Maude dies. Ned is so often made the BUTT of jokes, and I thought it was nice that there was an episode that ended on an upbeat note, in which it shared his joy rather than mock it.

C'mon! It had homer being commited for wearing a pink shirt! The Eps. wasn't "funny funny" but it was *good* - which is the problem with todays Simpsons - they *try* to be "funny funny" and forget about being good - so ultimately the show sucks no matter how many one-liners and disco stu jokes in the show.

*shudders @ Frank Grimes*

Lisa-centric eps generally suck - however over the past few years the Homer-centric eps (see, EVERY FUCKING EPS SINCE 1998!) have really lowered his avg (as previously, in the bart-centric eps. the homer shows were always the best... Homer goes to College, Homer goes to Space, etc.)

I HATED HATED HATED HATED HATED the death of Maude Eps. God that sucked. SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED.

The Death of Maude ruled. It provided a dose of gravity in the world of the Simpsons, but did so without getting sappy. The storyline was excellently handled, the emotions were genuine, and the laughs were honest.

My favourite part of the episode where Maude died were the T-Shirts. 'Let 'er RIP'. I loved that.

I liked the Micheal Jackson episode too. The song always gets stuck in my head.

"Liiisa it's your biiirthday, haaappy birthday Liiisa"

Lisa it's your birthday

God bless you this day

You gave me the gift of a little sister

And I'm proud of you this day

(Chorus) Lisa it's your birthday

Happy birthday Lisa

Lisa it's your birthday

I wish you love and goodwill

I wish you peace and joy

I wish you better then your heart desires

And your first kiss from a boy

(Chorus)

Maude was killed by T-shirts and homer's stupidity. The episode was HORRIBLE.

I can't honestly think of any Simpsons episode that i totally hated.

The first few seasons weren't nearly as good as later seasons, but i still don't find them to be that horrible other than the animation and voices. During the last few seasons the great episodes have been few and far between, but i still enjoyed most of them.

Of course I'm not the type that needs to laugh for the entire 20 minute show to like that show. I also don't sit around comparing seasons to their truly great seasons, because it's pointless. The show may not be as great as it once was, but it's still a good show.

i know, i can't hate any episode either, but i'd take any of the full ones over one of the clip shows.

Would you have rather her die in a car accident? In a mugging? Be raped and beaten to death? Would that have made the show better?

Yes, the circumstances surrounding Maude's death are absurd, but, even if the show is going to tackle something as heavy as the death of one of its characters, it is important for The Simpsons to maintain its humor. Had she died in a more serious way, it would have been worse. MUCH worse.

EDIT: This was in response to RRR, obviously.

I mentioned the all musical clip show earlier in the thread! It's been totally no sold!

Why did they have to kill her off in the first place? Why did Homer have to be the cause of her death? Why t-shirts? Of course rape would have been perfect - wtf?! Why would I want that? Forgive me for wanting something that - you know - had some thought put into it. My fault.

Wait... It was funny? It was a sight gag "Hey, you know those guns that shoot t-shirts, lets have homer paint a bullseye with ketchup and move out of the way so Maude could get killed - it would be great!" The Simpsons have become one big sight gag and they base their plots around them.

I don't know. The first clip show (the April Fools show) was classic.

I think I'm in the group that just can't truly hate any episode of the Simpsons. As a matter of fact, if there are any shows out there that I really like a lot, I find it hard to hate any particular episode. My two prime examples of that are the Simpsons and Seinfeld. I just can't hate any episode from either series. Sure there ones that I didn't care for, but I can ALWAYS find something good in each episode, no matter how small. The ones I actually dislike are the ones that are shown constantly in syndication. I'm not sure about your areas, but here, there seem to be certain episodes that make it into the playing rotation at least two or three times a month. These are still funny, but they just wear thin with you.

A lot of people have been badmouthing the first season, but I ask you to name me many great shows that haven't changed greatly since their premiere season. There are probably some exceptions, but the first season was all about getting a feel for things and it set the ground for what the show would become. I think the second season was where you could first see those sparks of genius that would later become the show's trademark, but aside from a few, there aren't any terrible episodes in season one. I don't care for the Christmas one (played out storyline and too depressing most of the way though) or the Lisa gets sad one, mainly cause I've never been a big fan of the episodes where Lisa was the central focus.

The musical episode along with the Africa one are two off the top of my head that I usually take a pass on.

As an aside, I've noticed some strong hate for the Frank Grimes episode in this thread, which strikes me as odd since I love that episode. Perhaps I missed something, but why all the hate? Someone mentioned that it ruined Homer's character, but by that do you mean the almost "painfully" insensitive Homer of recent seasons or what? Either way, I don't really have a negative view on any form of Homer J. Simpson, aside from the one of the first season. It's still surreal to watch him be concerned of what others think.
