Went down to Wal-Mart this morning and picked up the 2-disc DVD, widescreen of course, for only $15 (much like Spider-Man).

Here are some of the extras. From what I've seen, they're pretty damn good.

- 8 deleted scenes with explanations / intros by Lucas, etc

- Theatrical teasers and TV spots (why the teasers were SO good and the TV spots SO horrible is beyond me)

- "Across the Stars" music video ('Across the Stars' is the name of the love theme but that's only part of the score included in the vid)

- Comprehensive 12-part web documentary

- "State of the Art: The Previsualization of Episode II" (basically discusses how they went from using models and cartoons for 4-6 and now they use digital technology to plan scenes in 1 and 2)

According to the back of the DVD, it includes 6-hours of bonus material. Not bad for $15.

Oh yeah, the film wasn't that bad either. I'd rate it up there with "Empire".

If you didn't HAVE to have Widescreen, you could have went to Toys R' Us and gotten it for $9.99.

You HAVE to have widescreen.

Dude...the screen...it's wide!

I never liked Widescreen, but that's just me.

It could be because my TV is very shitty and only shows good when it feels like it.

Oh well, I'll be getting my Ep. II DVD in a day or two.

If your TV is small, then yes, widescreen would kinda suck. But that's about the only reason to get fullscreen - if your TV is bigger than 20", then there really is no excuse, IMO, for not getting widescreen.

Since I'm heading back to the homeland this weekend, can anyone tell me the prices at Future Shop and DVD Wave?

Got II early this morning. It's amazing how much stuff I missed when watching it in the theater due to screaming brats all around me...

Sometimes I watch widescreen DVDs on my 14 inch computer monitor. Still looks as good on it as it does on my 62 inch TV.

Whoa, hey, let's not go overboard. Ep. II was better than Ep. I, but I'd still rate it below the original trilogy (yes, even Jedi).

the only use for the DVD is to use special features like Zoom In a freeze frame to enjoy the greatness of Princess Senator Abedodube tight white costumes.

it needs 6 hours of extras because the movie is so sub-par.

Sorry, but there are only two reasons why anyone would prefer fullscreen over widescreen. They are either uneducated as to why widescreen is better, or they are stupid.

Isn't that the same thing?

Well being uneducated about a topic is alot better than being plain stupid. At least the uneducated can be educated.

No, there are valid reasons. For one thing, if the TV is small, letterboxing the movie can make it very difficult to see at times. Also, some people are just plain distracted by the thick black bars, and can't concentrate on the movie if they're there.

Kinda like the people who are distracted by subtitles aka idiots.

You say there are valid reason and THOSE are the ones you choose? Like I said before, I watch widescreen a lot on a 14 inch monitor. And what about those travel DVD machines that have little 7 inch LCD screens. They look awesome on those things. Are people watching DVD's on 3 inch screens? How much smaller can you get?

Hey, if someone doesn't like the way it looks and prefers fullscreen, I don't agree with them, but I don't have the right to proclaim them wrong, either. It's art and entertainment, differing tastes and shades of gray, not a math problem where two plus two always equals four.

The thing is that you're not watching things on your TV the same way you might watch it on a portable or desktop monitor. Whether it's a 500-foot tv or a 13-inch model you're gonna be watching it from a comfortable distance away. So widescreen on a smaller TV is harder to see than on your monitor, which would be right in front of you.

And don't forget that most of the general public has not been educated on widescreen vs fullscreen, and the fact that movie and TV screens have different proportions isn't likely to register to Joe DVD Newbie.

See it all goes back to what C.H.U.D said about them being uneducated about it. The widescreen doesn't even make the picture smaller it just puts it in better proportion.

The people that complain about it being too small on their 20" or smaller TV just haven't watched enough widescreen movies to get use to it. It takes awhile to get use to widescreen at first, but once you do it shouldn't matter what size your screen is. I once hated widescreen as well because i was uneducated and thought it was cutting part of the movie off.

And I'm sorry but anyone who is totally distracted from a movie by the widescreen black bars or subtitles is an idiot. I can understand it being hard on you the first you see it, but there's no reason that it should be able to totally distract someone.

This isn't like someone saying they hate b&w movies. While they are incredibly close minded it's a "artistic" preference.

Sorry, but it takes 2 minutes to explain to someone why widescreen is better. If they still want to watch fullscreen after explaining to them about widescreen, then that person is an idiot. I don't care about excuses like "I can't get used to the black bars" or "my TV is too small". They are an idiot.

Guess I'm still playing devil's advocate here...

Don't forget that "putting it in better proportion" essentially means that the widescreen picture will be smaller IN HEIGHT in comparison to fullscreen, because they're trying to show the full image as opposed to a cropped one.

I once hated widescreen as well because i was uneducated and thought it was cutting part of the movie off.

When my roommate left and took his 29" TV with him, I was left watching movies on a 19" TV and believe me, it's not really something you can get used to. Things look hella-smaller on those smaller sets. It bothered me enough that I had to go out and buy a bigger TV. But I can't say that everyone would be able to do that, and again, if they don't know any better, they're just gonna try to maximize (meaning zoom in on) that image - which means fullscreen.

Totally agree about the black bars and subtitles, although it drives me nuts that I can't turn off subtitles on my parents crappy APEX player. That's more of a control issue on my part though.

Also, I wonder if the people that get those widescreen-ready TVs complain about the vertical black bars on the sides when they watch regular TV?

I don't agree with that you can't really get use to watching widescreen on small screens stuff. I mean hell I've watched a 7" In Dash car TV from the rear seat of a mini van and had no problem with the widescreen.

Even though i don't see the problem i suppose i can understand why people would complain about watching widescreen on a 13" or smaller TV. However there's no reason why a 20" tv should be considered too small for widescreen unless the person is half blind.

Most common reasons given for not liking widescreen, and how to answer them:

"I can't get used to the black bars"

Turn off the lights

"It seems like part of the movie is cut off"

No. You are a retard.

At this point you can either point out that fullscreen is when you miss part of the movie, or beat them to death with a hammer.

"My TV is too small"

Then why bother having a DVD player? You can pony up for more recent video players...but not the screen they play on? Prioritize or I'll take my hammer back out.

... How did a thread about the Ep. II DVD turn into a debate about Widescreen/Full Screen?
