cawthon777 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2002 Went down to Wal-Mart this morning and picked up the 2-disc DVD, widescreen of course, for only $15 (much like Spider-Man). Here are some of the extras. From what I've seen, they're pretty damn good. - 8 deleted scenes with explanations / intros by Lucas, etc - Theatrical teasers and TV spots (why the teasers were SO good and the TV spots SO horrible is beyond me) - "Across the Stars" music video ('Across the Stars' is the name of the love theme but that's only part of the score included in the vid) - Comprehensive 12-part web documentary - "State of the Art: The Previsualization of Episode II" (basically discusses how they went from using models and cartoons for 4-6 and now they use digital technology to plan scenes in 1 and 2) According to the back of the DVD, it includes 6-hours of bonus material. But that's about the only reason to get fullscreen - if your TV is bigger than 20", then there really is no excuse, IMO, for not getting widescreen. Whether it's a 500-foot tv or a 13-inch model you're gonna be watching it from a comfortable distance away. So widescreen on a smaller TV is harder to see than on your monitor, which would be right in front of you. And don't forget that most of the general public has not been educated on widescreen vs fullscreen, and the fact that movie and TV screens have different proportions isn't likely to register to Joe DVD Newbie. See it all goes back to what C.H.U.D said about them being uneducated about it. The widescreen doesn't even make the picture smaller it just puts it in better proportion. The people that complain about it being too small on their 20" or smaller TV just haven't watched enough widescreen movies to get use to it. It takes awhile to get use to widescreen at first, but once you do it shouldn't matter what size your screen is. I once hated widescreen as well because i was uneducated and thought it was cutting part of the movie off. And I'm sorry but anyone who is totally distracted from a movie by the widescreen black bars or subtitles is an idiot. I can understand it being hard on you the first you see it, but there's no reason that it should be able to totally distract someone. This isn't like someone saying they hate b&w movies. Don't forget that "putting it in better proportion" essentially means that the widescreen picture will be smaller IN HEIGHT in comparison to fullscreen, because they're trying to show the full image as opposed to a cropped one. When my roommate left and took his 29" TV with him, I was left watching movies on a 19" TV and believe me, it's not really something you can get used to. Things look hella-smaller on those smaller sets. It bothered me enough that I had to go out and buy a bigger TV. But I can't say that everyone would be able to do that, and again, if they don't know any better, they're just gonna try to maximize (meaning zoom in on) that image - which means fullscreen. Totally agree about the black bars and subtitles, although it drives me nuts that I can't turn off subtitles on my parents crappy APEX player. That's more of a control issue on my part though. I mean hell I've watched a 7" In Dash car TV from the rear seat of a mini van and had no problem with the widescreen. Even though i don't see the problem i suppose i can understand why people would complain about watching widescreen on a 13" or smaller TV.
