Why do all the smarks seem to pick on RVD for his lack of selling, when just about NO FACE in the last 10 years or so, sells submission work during the "bounce back" in their match. Isn't it pretty cut and dry that it is the WWE style that calls for these ludicrous "hulk-ups" and it isn't the wrestlers ineptness to the fact that they "should" be too hurt to do something? Do you think 90% of a WWE crowd is going to care more that RVD shouldn't be able to do a cartwheel, or more that they came to the arena to see RVD hit all of his moves? WWE crowd is not there for good wrestling matches, they are there for the "show" and RVD hitting all of his highspots is part of the "show" for them, RVD hobbling around to show the 1% of smarks out there psychology, IS NOT. It is sad I know it, I wish it would change, but right now that is the approach WWE has been using for a long time, and I am just not sure why this board seems to think that when it comes to RVD, suddenly the rules are different.

In worked in ECW because he was constantly baked and always talked about being baked. Then he would throw in a couple "fucks" and call it a promo. That won't work in WWE. ECW didn't have a bunch of "marks" and children watching. WWE does.

Umm, what ecw promotion were you watching? Besides the RVD 4:20 shirt, I don't recall RVD constantly referring to being baked in promos. It was more of a fan/implied type of thing. And to set the record straight, besides saying, "the whole fucking show" he did not curse in his promos/interviews. So what in the hell are you talking about?

Every single promo he was in. Whether he would make a reference to 4:20.. or getting high.. always something.

What show were you watching? I never missed one.

Fonz: "You're gonna smoke em' tonight daddy!"

RVD: "Too late."

Also, last time I checked, "Fuck" was a cuss word, so you can't say "other than" because he said it in every single promo.. making my statement true.

Cataclysm, he has done very well adapting to the WWE style, both in the ring, and on the stick.

He's come a long from the beloved bingo hall.

..and I'm not disagreeing w/ that or saying that he hasn't come a long way. Did I ever? I'm just saying, he shouldn't main event on RAW.. and he can't carry the RAW brand.

Which is what the thread was about.

Why shouldn't he main event Raw? He kept ECW from going out of business for about 3 years in my book, and ECW was sure as hell better than Raw is today. Entertainment wise at least.

And by the way I don't count ASS as being a notable cuss word in a promo, everyone says it these days.

RVD does need someone to play off of though, if he was on SMDN I swear Heyman would find someone fast, even himself.

Because Raw is a far different product to ECW and probably wouldn'tgo down all that well with the mainstream mass market. RVD also shouldn't be pushed because he is far too repetitve outside gimmick matches, unless they give him a gimmick match every show people will get bored eventually

Bottom line: If he can't, no one can.

He carried ECW, which had the same fanbase as RAW does now. (That's why, unlike the rest of the show, he's *over*)

The VAST majority of fans like his matches.

His promos are almost always memorable. (The water-spit, the Steph quip, the GIANT TOOL thing)

He's getting the biggest pop of the night, every night.

You guys are wrong. Plain and simple. He's already carrying RAW because that 3.1 is for HBK, Booker, and RVD. (In reverse order.)

He's as repetitive as Hulk Hogan was in 1985.

Look how bad for business that was.

Oh wait....

Do we really need to compare how different those two situations were?

You mean RAw is only getting 0.8 in the ratings?

He ME's every house show.

He is the #1 Draw for the show.

I'd say a third to 1/2's of the audience at home is for him.

He's carrying RAW already, give him the belt.

how is anyone better to main event RAW of all shows than RVD?

It's RAW where the only things fans care about on a consistent basis is chanting his name.

You do realize no one is drawing right now. When attendance is down and falling, there are no draws. You just have to stop slide.

I used Hogan as an example: Faces have a formula match, and they stick to it. Austin had one, Hogan did, Bret did.

Why is RVD different?

It's a different world to 85 now, fans are being fed brilliance form the SD crew, once you've seen greatness you don't always accept something second rate

Where was I when Smackdown ratings went through the roof.

Your smark is showing.

It's tough to argue that point when the entire Trenton crowd had RVD signs, shirts, and sung along to his theme song.

If no one draws you FIND a draw. The WWE has a draw that they're not willing to use.

They do use RVD to market things alot more than they generally do people that they never push.

Biggest difference between RVD and most of the SD! Roster:

RVD doesn't NEED the canned pops.

I'd love for him to be on SD!. With Heyman booking he'd be the thing to pull SD! into 4.0 again.

To me it seems RVD gets bigger pops when he's being well protected working 6-8 minute matches where he doesn't need to try psychology or repeat any spots, Even I can enjoy him in that role, he pumps up the crowd but once you put him in a longer match you get some crowd noise killing lulls in the action

Yeah...

That's because no one else on the roster can garner any reaction of their own.

If they could, crowds wouldn't be dead through most of the show.

Who needs canned heat anymore? Angle? Benoit? Guerreros? Edge? Lesnar?

The fact is, when RVD is on the offense, the crowd is on their feet.

When the opponent, whoever that may be, is on the attack, the fans just don't care.

It happened to Benoit at SS.

We would have no way of knowing the answer to that question.

They seem to can the whole show just to make it sound better.

Posted

Still, Angle's gets the "You suck" and tons of face heat and it seems like something they'd want to eliminate. And Benoit comes out pretty mute but the crowd seems to react as he goes.

And Zsasz, it takes two to tango. Someone has to carry their end of the match, especially when a heel has to stay on offense for so long because someone doesn't no how to work it. Yes, they pop his spots. And I'm not going to deny anything. But he didn't pull up his end in that match unless you want Benoit doing an Eddy-style carry job.

Outside his entrance and spots Rob doesn't really get that much reaction anyway, the pops for his spots diminish as people see them more too ;) I mean don't get me wrong he's far from the worst guy on Raw but talking flagship stars I still think Booker and Jericho given the opportunity could draw much higher ratings

I'm getting sick of that match.

It always looked to me like it flowed fine and carried the story from their first match...where no matter what Benoit hit him with he couldn't make him tap.

I watched RVD make his comebacks in that match, and I watched as Benoit cut off every single one of them and went back to trying to destroy RVD to make him tap.

I was just wondering, what makes you think RVD can raise the ratings another half a million and some viewers?
