Doug Mientkiewicz didn't win the Gold Glove at 1B. The writers actually think John Olerud is a better fielder. If anyone should of beaten out Mientkiewicz it was Scott Spiezio. Olerud is good at picking up throws in the dirt, but Mientkiewicz is better at throws in the dirt plus all other aspects of fielding for a 1B.

Could be worse. Palmeiro won the 1st base gold glove in '99 despite DHing 135 games that year.

I guess the Gold Glove is A-Rod's consolation proze for not winning the MVP award. Considering that Mike Bordick set a record this season for consecutive games without an error, I don't see how he didn't win. Then again, when Cal Ripken set the original record, he didn't win that year, either, with the flashy-but-worthless Ozzie Guillen picking up the hardware. I expect more from the coaches and managers. At least some of them had the decency to apologize when Ripken got snubbed.
