Guest razazteca Report post Posted November 16, 2002 if they can keep Stuart Scott from using Rap catch phrases every 5 seconds then it would be acceptable to me. He can rant on forever and still be entertaining in the PTI format, just keep the Ebonics to a bare minumin.
Guest Karnage Report post Posted December 1, 2002 Around The Horn sucks. It's basically there to put Kellerman over, imo, and isn't even a quarter as good as (TSN's) Off The Record or PTI. You know, ESPN owns part of TSN - why not bring OTR over or at least do an US-centric version? That's what I don't get about the ESPN/TSN relationship. TSN airs almost everything from ESPN in addition to simulcasting (the Raptors home opener was simulcast with ESPN, that's just sad) but ESPN never airs Off The Record and never simulcasts hockey games from the Canadian feed to see how commentary should be done. Guest Mr. Slim Citrus Report post Posted December 2, 2002 I'm a little late to this thread, but: Why couldn't they just recreate the Dan Patrick Radio Show for television? It could operate on the radio and on TV, like Howard Stern's show. Because Dan Patrick's Radio Show sucks cock, that's why. The only time Patrick's show passes for entertaining is when Barkley's a guest. PTI can be hosted by anybody, I would prefer Max Kellerman with Stuart Scott. Stuart Scott - Boo Yah + PTI host = Ratings I don't think that show works as well without Wilbon and Kornheiser. Those two know each other; they've been partners in crime for about twenty years now, and their arguing just seems natural, not to mention funny. Everyone else that they've had hosting the show have seemed grossly artificial by comparison. Also, Stuart Scott and Jim Rome don't entertain me on any level; I think Scott is an idiot, and Rome is waaaay too much of a SoCal homer. But, hey, who am I to argue with a man that's 1000% GUAPO™? The closest they've come is bring in Bob Mackenzie for some SportsCenter analysis. They really need to recreate OTR for ESPN. Get the Sports Guy or somebody (even Kellerman), four guests (say a sports reporter/writer, 2 athletes and Jimmie 'Dyn-O-Mite' Walker) and let 'em go. What's so difficult there? OK, aside from getting them to Maryland. (edit) Then I realize that this is the US and that they NEED the stupid gimmicks like arbitrary points and a mute button to try and get the show over. Thus, you get Around The Horn instead of OTR.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted December 3, 2002 but all of these shows are Clones of the Jim Rome radio/tv program. Kornhouser & Wilborn work well together, but I would like them to expand the PTI show to include Max Kellerman and Stuart Scott so we could have a mutant sports talk show on ESPN that can be competition for the Best Damn Sports Show Period. Might as well add a comedian like Jay Mohr or that gambling guy Just Living a Dream and have usual rotating guest commentators on a daily basis like have Bob Ryan on Monday, Marittoti on Tuesday, Woody Paige on Wednesday, etc. All they do is rant about trivial pop icons along with the sport news of the day. And the usual running joke of West Coast bias muting Woody Paige every day.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted December 4, 2002 NO, get Bob Ryan off my TV! It's bad enough having to see his mug on Boston shows. He, Shank Shaunessy (sp?), and pretty much all of the Boston Globe's sports writers have to be some of the most arrogant, elitist, "reporters" I've ever seen (or read). Guest razazteca Report post Posted December 4, 2002 I would love to see Dale Hansen get the Texas spot, his coverage of the Cowboys is classic.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted December 4, 2002 Around the Horn's format is really good I think, my main problem with it though was that each guy was such a blatant homer for his own cities teams that intelligent debate could just not happen....they need more unbias. Guest Choken One Report post Posted December 4, 2002 Yeah, why always Dallas, Chitown, Boston, LA and Denver? What about Miami? St. Louis? Carolina? other big sport cities.
