Guest SP-1 Report post Posted November 15, 2002 Hey guys. I came across this at Newsarama. I personally cannot wait for this, as it seems like something very thoughtful and interesting. Basically, it's set in an alternate universe that's pretty much like the real world. No super heroes or super villains, and Superman is a well known comic book character. This kid who grew up in Kansas and who is named Clark Kent gets teased all the time because of these factors and the relationship to the Superman mythology. He's just an ordinary kid . . . until he discovers that he has superpowers, too. but it isn't hero time. It's about different stages in his life and how this big secret makes growing up a whole lot harder. The full article makes it sound much more interesting than what I just described, though . . . Here's the Link to the Newsarama article. I'm really looking forward to it.
Guest raptor Report post Posted November 15, 2002 I really hate Superman, but this and one other comic have my interest piqued: http://www.newsarama.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultim...ic&f=2&t=000026
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted November 15, 2002 Yes, that looks like it could be really funny. I just hope DC doesn't try to market it with star power and they just let it be a funny take on superheroes. SP

Guest SP-1 Report post Posted November 16, 2002 Heh. You know, I've read CRISIS, but I wasn't reading at the time of Zero Hour and when Hypertime emerged. I'm still fuzzy on that whole thing. SP
Guest starvenger Report post Posted November 16, 2002 Well, basically Hypertime is a way to access ANY story EVER created that has ties to the DC Universe. So you can access Elseworlds, Amalgam, and theoretically Image. For a more complex explanation, well, someone will explain it or maybe I can find a link somewhere... Guest areacode212 Report post Posted November 16, 2002 Hypertime is basically the old parallel earths concept but with different semantics. And you can't just vibrate or run on a magic treadmill to access the different realities...it's REALLY, REALLY HARD (probably because they don't want the concept to be overused). Most of this stuff was explained in The Kingdom and its associated one-shots (which weren't all that bad), and in a subsequent Superboy storyline. Supposedly, Grant Morrison and Mark Waid had some master plan involving Hypertime, but after a falling out, those plans were scrapped (what were the details of that falling out, anyway?). Superman: Secret Identity sounds really interesting, and I've been a big fan of Stuart Immonen's art since his LSH run, so I'll probably pick this up. Remind me about it when it gets here. Guest SP-1 Report post Posted November 16, 2002 I'll post something on it when it comes out. I'll be buying it, at least at first to see how it is. Geez, Hypertime sounds complicated. I'm almost glad I wasn't around for it's coming into being. I didn't mind CRISIS, I thought it was a great story on it's own, but I get the feeling that Hypertime might give me a headache. I never did read The Kingdom, though. I saw it in the book store, and got the feeling that it was a cheap continuation of Kingdom Come done for money (though that's just a gut feeling). Kingdom Come is one of my all time favorite stories, ever, which I guess is why I was hesitant to get into a sequel. I might look into it now, though. Guest starvenger Report post Posted November 17, 2002 Supposedly, Grant Morrison and Mark Waid had some master plan involving Hypertime, but after a falling out, those plans were scrapped (what were the details of that falling out, anyway?). My facetious guess would be that the falling out was due to Morrison being Scottish and Waid working for CrossGen...
