Do you think WCW would have survived?  I do.  Imagin what would have happened if the first match was Booker T vs. Lance Storm.  Post your thoughts on what would have happened.

I don't think it would.  The WWF has failed at so much since then, and the writing has been so bad that I think they would have screwed anything up.

I think they would of had a better chance. I always felt they should of hired Jarrett and gone Booker T vs. Jeff Jarrett, or Storm. Booker did a interveiw somewhere placing the blame on Buff. Which is probably right.

Bagwell did not singlehandedly ruin the WCW angle.  Sure, he got it off to a crappy start but the WWF could have rebounded.  A horrible match does not kill a blossoming huge angle, if you don't let it.  I think the response to a Booker T - Lance Storm match would have been even worse.  They needed huge names for the first match.  Or maybe have made the match Booker T vs. a WWF star.

If the WWF needed WCW names...they should of gone Booker T vs. Jeff Jarrett (Had they hired them) or Booker T vs. DDP. They did Book vs. DDP at Smackdown, which was better received. The Buff/Booker match got a 5.8 rating. Had the match been a little better, the WWF may have not panic and turned WCW heel. Although writing was also a factor.

Buff was not the only person to blame for the failure of the 1st WCW title match on WWF tv.  Arn Anderson and Scott Hudson are also guilty as charge, for their bad announcing of the match.  Bobby Heenen and Mike Tenay should of been the announers.

 

I believe that Stephanie McMahon had something to do with it :-)

If anyone is to blame for the death of the invsion it's Shane and Stephanie for attaching themselves to the angle. Heyman should have brought back ecw just like it happened but then all the wrestlers should have beat the shit outta shane because after all he is a mcmahon. Things would have gone alot better for the angle if the mcmahon's had stayed away.

Bad writers, bad singing by Stephanie, people not wanting to work the matches UNDERTAKER!!!!!!!!

 

why is it everytime Stephanie gets involved in an angle the overall quality of the show takes a downward spiral?  Get her off tv now.

Higher Power was doomed from the start but she screws things up because:

1. Her Voice

2. Her Acting

3. She Hasn't earned her spot so no one likes her

4. Did I mention her voice and acting?

WCW failed because of several factors:

1) forcing every WCW wrestler to be Heel

2) bad selection of talent....WCW that was brought in was more like a expansion team.....scrubs and journeymen

3) bad writing

4) Booker T as Heel

5) Paige vs Undertaker

6) Meat running to walls

7) Chucky&O'Haire instead of Sanders & Reno

8) no real true heels:  Jarret, Steiner, Douglas

I agre with you on all of those accept, number 1. Kidman was a face in his feud against x-pac, especially at their match at the invaison ppv. but everything else is dead on.

I thought the intentino the whole time was for WCW to be heel. They wantyed them to be faces at first?

Vince and austin and angle were the big heels when wcw arrived. shane was a face and when booker t showed up on the seen the fans cheered him. He attacked austin and vince and angle a few times before the heel turn.

the thing that killed the invasion is the fact that wcw was never going to go over and would never be a real threat.  they needed to build the fued to a crescendo where control of both companies was on the line, not merely the elimination of one company.  of course the better thing to do would have been to never have the angle that soon, though of course that didnt happen.

Really that's why i always had a bit of trouble getting into the nWo angle in wcw, i mean did anyone really think they wre going todestroy the company?

The crowd was furious that they were getting a WCW main event instead of a WWF main event.  They were booing th WCW guys out of the buliding (even Arn) before the match even began.  It would've taken a truly spectacular match to turn them around.  Booker T/Storm I dont think it quite would've cut it, especially since Booker T (yes Buff was much worse) was pretty rusty at the time.
